Are you prepared to take charge of maturing and expanding an entire web platform? We're looking for an excellent Ruby developer to build out Baymard's custom-built Rails-based web platform.\n\n**The Job**\nIn this position, you will have a lot of influence on the technical direction of the company since all Baymard employees are e-commerce UX researchers except one (Jamie, co-founder of the business, and the person youโll be working most closely together with). Itโs an opportunity to help envision and build the technical platform of a research company that, while it works with tech, isn't yet another app or web service. (Because of this weโre also more than happy to open-source our internal code and scripts because we don't make our money from code.)\n\n**Requirements**\n\- We're looking for someone with strong programming skills since we want you to take charge / ownership of our tech platform.\n\- Since all of our current infrastructure is written in Ruby, it's a major plus if that's your choice of language too.\n\- Familiarity with JavaScript and CSS are a bonus, but not required.\n\n_Note: you must be fluent in English, comfortable working remotely via digital platforms and willing to do a few yearly travels for team meetups (expect 2-4 weeks of travel each year)._\n\n**Are We A Good Fit?**\nIf youโre looking for a chance to work on long-term goals rather than chasing monthly user growth targets, this will be a good match. Weโre a business that has been profitable from day one and we really donโt care about temporarily spiking our user metrics in order to flip the company or impress VC investors. Weโre much more interested in steady and sustainable improvements to our business โ continually increasing the value we deliver to our customers (from which sustained increases in profitability organically follow). Since all of Baymardโs research is delivered through its website, your work will have an immediate and tangible impact on the company.\n\nWe want to work with the smartest and most dedicated people around the world, and all of our positions are therefore open to full-time remote work. In other words, you are welcome to work with us from any location you prefer (which many of our employees do). If you want to, youโre of course also welcome to work in our Copenhagen-based office.\n\n**About Baymard**\nBaymard Institute is a small independent web usability research organization, specialized in conducting large-scale generic usability studies of e-commerce sites. These studies are published as industry reports and benchmark databases at baymard.com (this site is a big part of the web platform youโll be working on) โ which is being used by thousands of web professionals, all the way from the independent freelance web designer to the UX Director of a Fortune 500 company.\n\nYou'll be working with a team of dedicated usability researchers conducting cutting-edge e-commerce research used by UX teams at some of the biggest brands in the world (clients include Nike, Lenovo, Etsy, etc.)?\n\n**Apply**\nIf youโre interested in this position, please send the following to [email protected] (listed in order of importance):\n\n\- Samples of back-end code youโve written.\n\- Samples of front-end code youโve written (optional).\n\- Other information you find relevant (hobbies, interests, work experience, CV, ..).\n\n_Note: All applications and materials are kept strictly confidential. That said, open-source contributions are perfectly fine as code samples too โ just send along / point us towards whatever โworkโ you feel best represents your skills._ \n\nPlease mention the words **ANKLE PIECE INCOME** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xODA=). \nWe need a strong backend web applications developer, full time. LAMP stack; running proprietary Angular apps on CodeIngnitor, plus ExpressionEngine content management system with lots of customization, a few NodeJS apps for real-time data processing tasks, and a little bit of legacy PHP; running on a multi-tier farm in front of high avail MySQL., hosted in AWS.\n\nLooking for a developer with strong web app architecture experience on the backend to help modernize the legacy code (a little), build and deploy new features and apps (a lot), and in general keep our menagerie of ecommerce sites and internal support applications working like a charm.\n\nThe current development team works 100% internally focused, on dedicated systems for our ecommerce sites, marketing, operations, and investment/financial tools for our analysts. 4 full-time devs, two part time, plus 3 designers, all working in a DevOps style. Informal and flat organization, with lots of sharing and collaboration, but also complete ownership of your projects from concept to shipping. \n\nMust be a strong multi-tier web applications developer who can work on all aspects of the site from front-end (coding, not design) to application and data layers. Good working knowledge of security and scalability best practices. Experience in a fast release cycle environment – we put out new code multiple times per day. Self-driven, with a focus on putting out clean and well documented code. \n\nBonus points if you:\n\n\n* Know SQL like the back of your hand. Lots of focus on reporting and data visualization for the marketing and sales team.\n\n* Have testing and analytics experience. We make heavy use of Google Analytics, Optimizely, etc. to find out what works and doesn’t for our users. \n\n* Can pitch in on AWS systems management – anything from setting up an SSH relay box at the edge, to configuring opcode caching on PHP, to updating puppet to add additional dependencies.\n\n\n\n\nWork is 100% remote with no travel requirement (if you want to come visit our main office in the beautiful ski village of Stowe, VT, you’ll be welcome of course). All existing developers and designers are remote too – no odd man out here. \n\nCompany has been around 10+ years, profitable since inception, and is a leader in the investment publishing industry. Flexible schedule and shift timing. Paid time off. Etc. \n\nIndividuals and placement agents only, no vendors. Must have at least 5 years web app dev experience. Non-U.S. welcome to apply, but English skills must be 99th percentile, as this is a fast-moving U.S. based team. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
