The Job
As a Full Stack Engineer, you'll be focusing on improving our codebase to make it more performant and easier to maintain.
Currently, our platform is built as a majestic Rails monolith, using Vue.js with Typescript on the front-end, and enhanced by Rust for select services and gems.

Testing is done with RSpec & Capybara
Continuous integration and deployment are done with CircleCI & GitHub Actions
MySQL and PostgreSQL for our main databases
ScyllaDB for our activity feeds
Redis for session storage, queue management, and caching
ElasticSearch for full-text search
DevOps using Containers orchestrated with Kubernetes and Helm
Monitoring and alerting is done with DataDog, New Relic, and Sentry
Infrastructure managed with Terraform
Hosting on Google Cloud (planning to move towards bare metal)
CDN and endpoint protection using Cloudflare and Fastly
About you
We're looking for someone who has proven experience building and maintaining large production-level Ruby on Rails applications in the past.
Ideally, you have experience:
Working with a modern front-end framework (ideally Vue)
Writing semantic JavaScript and (or) Typescript
Working with Redis, MySQL or PostgreSQL
Writing unit and integration tests using RSpec and Capybara
Additionally, since we're 100% remote, we:
Highly value strong written communicators
Require three hours overlap any time between 10 AM and 6 PM CET

At FetLife we're looking for a Senior Rails Engineer to help us better serve the community.
The Job
As a Rails Engineer, you'll be working with the product team focusing on building, releasing, and testing new product features. Additionally, we're always looking for ways to improve our codebase to make it more performant and easier to maintain.
Currently, our entire platform is built as a majestic Rails monolith, using Vue.js with Typescript on the front-end.
More details about our tech stack:
Testing is done with RSpec & Capybara
Continuous integration and deployment are done with CircleCI
MySQL and PostgreSQL for our main databases
ScyllaDB for our activity feeds
Redis for session storage, queue management, and caching
ElasticSearch for full-text search
DevOps using Containers orchestrated with Kubernetes and Helm
Service and performance monitoring is done with DataDog and NewRelic
Here are some past projects we've worked on that might help you get a better idea of what it means to work as a Rails Engineer at FetLife:
Implemented a profile verification system from the ground up using government ID and/or pictures portraying a certain gesture
Improved the efficiency of our Activity Feed Deliveries by splitting longer feed event deliveries into smaller async jobs and prioritizing delivery to more recently active members
Introduced the possibility of tagging other members in pictures, videos, and writings
Added powerful filtering to our on-site reporting system using ElasticSearch
Improved location privacy for all our members by introducing granular location privacy settings
We use a standardised salary calculator for each position to ensure we are competitive, fair, and consistent. For this specific role, the rate is between $115k - $155k USD / year. Rate is dependent on the level you are currently at.

The Engineering Team works closely with stakeholders across the organization to deliver solutions to both internal and external customers. We have been a fully remote team for over 12 years. What You’ll Do
Work closely with Senior Staff engineers to design, develop, maintain, and deliver full stack products for both internal and external customers.
Work in an agile environment with a team that deploys multiple times a day.

Work in close partnership with cross-functional teams and management to advance Mantis’ vision.
What You Need
CS Degree or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience shipping high-quality, non-trivial Rails applications.
Strong grasp of Computer Science concepts, such as object-oriented design, data structures, general understanding of algorithmic complexities, etc.
Strong relational database skills such as schema design, query building and optimization.
Desire to build reliable, maintainable software rather than haphazardly shipping features.
Experience with continuous integration and writing meaningful, non-brittle tests.
Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical people.
Be self-driven and comfortable working in a remote team environment.
Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment involving diverse stakeholders and subject matter experts.
Nice To Haves
Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, and Terraform (or similar technologies).
Desire to mentor more junior engineers.
