About the role

QIMA is looking to hire a passionate Full Stack Web Developer who is proficient in building static sites, web components, performant HTML/CSS, APIs and manages their work in an agile sprint cycle. We value developers who understand the goals of the team and bring solutions that are oriented with those goals.

You will be working as a core member of the Marketing Web Dev team to build and maintain the company's new marketing website.

Your daily responsibilities will be (in no particular order:)

·       Building templates with modern HTML, CSS and JS which are rendered in 11ty (a static site generation tool)

·       Write and maintain unit, e2e, and integration tests for your code

·       Writing and maintaining migration scripts to manage the content model inside of the CMS

·       Create and present solutions to problems such as: supporting 13+ languages across 10+ domains, managing multiple brands in the same code, designing automated integration and unit tests, building system to manage data reliably

·       Creating performant, tested, reusable web components using StencilJS

·       Debug problems with rendering, building, APIs, and databases

·       Documenting all your work by writing automated tests, inline docs, and in a document store

·       Own your work in an agile/scrum sprint cycle and utilize the team as a resource to move your work forward and complete it each sprint

·       Attend our weekly sprint meetings

·       Spend time learning about new technologies related to our static site generation stack, web components, CSS and more

Requirements and Skills (in no particular order)

·       Passionate about web development and you want to ship quality work

·       Experience building components preferably using StencilJS or using any modern framework like Vue, Angular, React, etc. and you understand immutable data, shadow DOM and pre-rendering

·       Have proven experience in building and maintaining large static sites with tools such as (preferably) 11ty/eleventy, Hugo, Jekyll, Gatsby

·       Proficient understanding of HTML5, modern CSS (and its limitations on specific platforms), and the DOM

·       Proficient in Typescript and vanilla Javascript and how to use those to work with the DOM and can build components, interfaces and tools without libraries like jQuery

·       A good understanding of MySQL

·       A strong understanding of PHP and how to build safe maintainable code

·       Experience building secure and scalable APIs with Symfony 5 or greater

·       Ability to organize your work, document your solutions, and share your knowledge with the team

Bonus Skills

·       Experience building static websites using Contentful

·       Experience with TailwindCSS

·       Experience building StencilJS components that are pre-rendered and hydrated client side

You Will Be Responsible For:

●       Developing new tools and software that help millions of pet lovers every month (could for example be to develop a Puppy Weight Chart Tool / Calculator that helps pet owners predict how fast, and how big their dog will grow)

●       Developing, testing, and maintaining new features and solutions for our WordPress sites for desktop and mobile browsers that are optimized for high traffic

●       Optimize our websites for mobile users

●       Create, review, and update technical documentation

●       Contributing to our development processes, QA procedures, and technical planning

●       Communicating and supporting our content and marketing departments with dev/IT requests, troubleshooting, fixing bugs

●       Performing scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance and security updates on our WordPress sites

●       Securing and protecting our WordPress sites from hackers and malware, as well as eliminating risks

●       Ensuring that our servers and content delivery network (CDN) are stable enough to handle millions of users

●       Improve our team’s IT infrastructure

●       Keep apprised of relevant new technology and best practices

You are expected to have:

• Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery

●       Experience with PHP (7.4/8) and object-oriented programming (OOP)

●       Experience with MySQL and managing databases

●       Experience with WordPress development (eg themes, hooks, filters, plugin API, etc)

●       Experience with build tools like Webpack or ViteJS

●       Experience with Composer and basic understanding of autoloading, dependency management, and dependency injection

●       Experience with SSH and comfortable with basic terminal usage

●       Experience with Git (and GitHub)

●       Experience with TailwindCSS & PostCSS

●       Troubleshooting abilities (ie include finding CSS and JavaScript conflicts using browser developer tools, navigating codebases in theme and plugins, and determining whether a plugin or theme code could be causing a code conflict)

●       The ability to take a project on your own and get it done before the deadline

●       The ability to communicate well as we work remote (most of our communication is written in Slack with occasional calls)

It would be nice if you have:

●       Experience creating custom Elementor widgets

●       Experience with Docker and DDev.com for local development

●       Experience with WP CLI, WP REST API, and WP cron jobs

●       Experience with CDNs/Cloudflare

●       Experience with unit testing

●       Good understanding of website architecture, aesthetics and UI/UX best practices

●       Understanding of basic principles behind technical SEO and performance optimization

●       We would appreciate it if you could work with PHPStorm so that we can use their collaborative features and have some consistency in our development processes. However, if you prefer and work better with another IDE or coding tool, that's fine! Either way, we will pay for your license.

A typical workweek (example)

●       Every Monday, we have a one-on-one Zoom meeting to discuss our goals, whether you are meeting your goals, what went well, what did not go well, and so on.

●       You have one or multiple projects to complete. You can work on them whenever and however you want without being micromanaged. However, you must be able to meet the deadline and be accountable for the quality of the end solution.

○       You’re also responsible for maintaining the Github repository of the project you’re working on, committing/pushing/documenting your changes, commenting on your code, and writing SOPs or technical documentation (if necessary). It doesn’t have to be pages long and can be very short and concise. But, as a developer, it makes life so much easier if you can return to your code in the future without having to think too hard about what you did. This is also about being considerate of your teammates' time.

●       There must be some overlap in our working hours so you can respond to urgent requests (if any) or chat with your manager or any of our departments on demand if they have an IT question. This means that some extra tasks may arise during the week.

○       You might have a day where one of our team members needs something urgent and needs it done the same or the next day, which can be valuable to the company, or a major issue needs to be fixed ASAP, in which case you might have to drop what you're working on and work on that or troubleshoot the entire day. If your main project's deadline cannot be met because of this (which is understandable), you should be able to communicate this on time.

We’re hiring a Senior/Staff Front End Engineer to work on our web applications. These web applications are the way that thousands of creative people around the world find great music and inspiring clips for use in their projects and campaigns.

As part of the Engineering team, your time will be spent collaborating with other front end engineers, back end engineers, product managers and designers to create the best experience for our customers. The ideal candidate loves tinkering with cutting edge technology and has at least 5 years experience building large scale React applications.

Core Duties

• Lead the front end development of product features: As well as coding out complex features, you will contribute to the technical design process. You will collaborate with your teammates (including other senior engineers) to refine the product roadmap and vision, and guide your team in building out new features.
