Senior Software Engineer

Cordial Systems is a venture-backed blockchain infrastructure company building state of the art custody products for enterprises working with cryptocurrencies and digital assets.  Our Treasury product enables companies to take back control of their assets and in a very easy and safe way.  We believe we can enable enterprises to do more safely and grow the industry as a whole.

Founded by Jump Trading alums, our team solves hard distributed systems problems and leverages novel MPC technologies.  We built a product internally and used by Jump Trading and now we are independently commercializing it.

After raising seed funding, we are seeking to hire 1-2 senior engineers to join our small, fast-moving team.

The Role

We are hiring an exceptional Senior Software Engineer who will be capable of tackling and owning complex, hard tasks related to software development and distributed computing.

Your responsibilities include developing critical software services, and providing empathetic leadership that aligns with our high-performance culture. You’ll design new features and identify optimizations that advance our product’s reliability, safety, and ease of use.  You’ll use your experience and drive to continuously help us improve our custody product, ultimately making Web3 a safe place.

Reporting to the CTO, your focus will be on delivering quality outputs, driving best practices, from code reviews to code quality improvement. If you're passionate about engineering excellence and eager to lead a team, we invite you to join us. Experience with crypto is not expected.

What is the job?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated developer to serve as a strong advocate in the Radix developer community – our bridge between the Radix team and the builders that Radix exists to make successful with our technology.

Scrypto is Radix’s breakthrough programming language for decentralized finance (or DeFi) and Web 3.0. Radix’s community of developers are passionate about Scrypto and the enormous opportunity that DeFi offers them. ChainSafe Systems, a blockchain research and development company, is seeking dedicated Protocol Engineers to join our Forest (Filecoin implementation in Rust) team.

As a protocol engineer for Forest, you will join a small team and develop and maintain the Rust implementation of the Filecoin blockchain protocol, often referred to as a node or a blockchain client. You will be tasked with implementing new features, occasionally from a technical specification or a reference implementation; maintaining existing features; and ensuring the implementation stays compatible with the current specification of the protocol, and updating the code when upgrades are made to the network. The position is full-time and remote-friendly.

As a protocol engineer, you have a desire to implement and deploy novel protocols that have never been implemented before in that language, you have a passion for open-source software and understanding that you will be maintaining code that will be widely used on a decentralized network, you are able to clearly communicate and document your thoughts, and you have a desire to contribute to the space.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand a protocol specification and be able to break it into issues and turn it into Rust code
• Design and implement new features for the client
• Refactor and improve existing features in the client
• Ensure the client says compatible with the other client implementations
• Collaborate with and assist team members on their issues

As a senior Rust software engineer at RDX Works, you will join a team of distributed systems engineers working to bring our smart contract functionality, Scrypto, to the Radix public network. From this point forward you will be making new ground right at the cutting edge of a rapidly evolving branch of computer science, as we embark on a journey towards a novel, massively sharded release which will enable unlimited scale.

Your days will be filled with hard, interesting problems - thinking through all the ways things can go wrong and coming up with solutions which are both elegant and practical - and then turning these into code. You will be tackling synchronization, consensus and networking problems that often have no perfect answer. You will meddle with dark powers best left untouched, learn more about decentralized systems than you dreamed was possible, and work with an inspiring team of incredible people. You will make your mother proud, even if you’re never quite able to properly explain to her what it is you built.

What are we looking for?

• You are a prolific, confident coder, and are persistent in working problems to resolution
• You possess strong attention to detail, and are rarely surprised by unconsidered edge cases
• You’ve used generic types so much that the angle bracket keys on your keyboard are beginning to wear away
• You are unafraid of working in a space where there is little prior art to refer to
• You have done and like to do demonstrably hard things
• You enjoy talking through tough problems with smart people, and are happy to accept ideas and approaches that you didn’t personally come up with
• You are someone who started to learn Rust for fun and now have several years of experience under your belt
• You are able to explain hard concepts in a clear and concise manner

What do you need?

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or similar
• Solid commercial experience working as a Software Developer
• Fluent in Rust and comfortable reading Java
• Completely comfortable with asynchronous programming models

Some of the following experience will help you stand out:

• Noddingly familiar with the practical aspects of asymmetric cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs, and having an understanding of the underlying theoretical foundations
• First-hand experience working with large data sets and dealing with complex distributed systems, and are all too familiar with the attendant complications and gremlins that emerge once not-perfectly-reliable things start talking to each other over a not-perfectly-reliable network
• Experience with or knowledge of authenticated data structures
• Hands-on experience with big data tools such as Hadoop, Cassandra etc
• Experience with blockchain/DLT development
• Have a background in computer science or a scientific qualification with demonstrable experience in consensus
• Experience implementing a BFT-style consensus protocol
