Are you looking for your next role with a startup?ย

Commit creates exciting career opportunities with high impact startups throughout North America for our private network of highly vetted engineers.

Our startups look for Senior Back-End Developers eligible to work in Canada. The ideal candidate has an entrepreneurial mindset, growth-oriented attitude, ambitions of excellence in their craft and a combination of the following tech stack:ย

  • One/some of: Node.js, Go/Golang, Python/Django/Flask, Ruby/Rails, Java/Scala, Rust

We believe that language is a tool. Itโ€™s more important that you have experience with one or more modern coding languages than that you have experience with any particular language itself.

To apply to Commitโ€™s network, we ask that you fill out a quick application on our website, which is free of charge.

If your application is accepted, you will go through a quick three-step interview process, and the best part - no technical interviews!ย

If you officially get accepted into our private network, you will be paid a full salary while we work to match you with our startup partners. Once matched, you can pilot with the startup for 3 months. If you love it, you can continue with them; if not, weโ€™ll work with you to find a better match.ย

Note: We only accept applications from high-potential, innovative startups that are financially stable and genuinely interested in prioritizing our engineersโ€™ growth and development and always do what's right for the engineer.

What are you waiting for? Apply Now!

As an early-stage startup, we know itโ€™s critical to build inclusive processes as a part of our foundation. We are committed to building and fostering an environment where our employees feel included, valued, and heard. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, racialized people, people with disabilities, people from gender and sexually diverse communities and/or people with intersectional identities.

If you require accommodations during any stage of our recruitment process, please let us know how we can best support you.

As Lead on our Platform Team, youโ€™ll have direct ownership of our mission-critical backend systems, allowing us to deliver near-real-time email insights to Wall Street. You'll be tasked with driving high-throughput, low-latency streaming data processing systems, including email instrumentation & distribution, analytics collection, machine intelligence post-processing, and statistics pre-aggregation.\n\nStreet Contxt is the only email intelligence software purpose-built for the pace and volume of global capital markets. In this industry, deals are won and lost in the inbox within minutes, but CRMs and email marketing tools donโ€™t provide the streamlined client insights firms need to act first and fast. Our software enables sell-side teams to cut through the email chaos so they can focus on high-value conversations. Thatโ€™s why Street Contxt has an exceptional NPS score across more than 150 firms in 17 countries and is trusted to send more than 27 million emails per month on behalf of the biggest names in the industry.\n\nAs Team Lead, you will be responsible for your team, including technical leadership, recruiting, mentoring, performance and compensation reviews, and giving voice to your team in higher-level communications with the rest of the department and company.\n\nOur systems are hosted on AWS, written in Scala & Java as (mostly) Dockerized microservices, using Akka Streams, AWS Lambda, Kinesis, SQS, Redis, and PostgreSQL, amongst other technologies.\n\nWe hire well-rounded, growth-oriented people that are passionate and good at what they do. We work collaboratively, we win as a team, and we have fun together along the way.\n\nIf that sounds like an interesting opportunity, and you have at least 3 years of experience leading people and building high-performance mission-critical distributed systems, weโ€™d like to hear from you.\n\n#LI-Remote\n\nStreet Contxt is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, ancestry, colour, race, citizenship, ethnic origin, place of origin, creed, disability, family status, marital status, gender identity and gender expression, receipt of public assistance, record of offences, sex or sexual orientation.\n\nTo that end, Street Contxt is committed to making our recruitment processes as accessible as possible including providing accommodations during the recruitment and hiring process as required. Upon request, Street Contxt will consult with applicants to provide or arrange for suitable accommodation.\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Java, Scala, Marketing and Backend jobs that are similar:\n\n $67,500 — $117,500/year\n

Ad Hoc Labs are the makers of Firewall, Dialed, and Burner, one of the top-grossing independent apps in the world.ย  Our mission is to build best-in-class software products that empower our millions of customers with better control of their privacy, communications, and identity, and to do it as a self-sustaining company whose culture and practices we can be proud of.\n\nOur bestselling appย **Burner**ย has been the category leader in virtual phone number apps for more than five years, serving millions of consumers with a way to generate additional phone numbers when needed, keep them indefinitely or use them only temporarily, and delete them when finished โ€“ all without the hassle of wireless carriers or contracts. Burner was named a top 50 app by TIME and has been covered extensively in the press, including the New York Times who said โ€œa thin layer of privacy between yourself and the rest of the world, when needed, is hard to put a price onโ€.\n\nAs a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a key member of our engineering team building the next generation of mobile privacy tools. You will work closely with the mobile and product teams to architect new features and build out fast, scalable backend services.\n\n### **What is the platform team like at Ad Hoc Labs?**\n\nOur platform team is the core of our customer experience. Each day they work on high volume projects that power our mobile applications. The team is tightly knit and works closely on all aspects of architecting, development, and deployment of the platform. They work cross functionally with the mobile and product teams to design new features and services. We believe engineers are highly motivated when they can work autonomously with clear goals and support and continually focus on improvement in our process to create that environment.\n\nOur team members are encouraged to embrace new technologies/frameworks and find the best tool for every problem. We have micro services written in Scala, backed by Postgres and Redis, managed and deployed using Kubernetes. We leverage AWS across the platform, including AWS Lambda and Serverless.\n\nAs a senior member of the team, you will lead cross functional teams to design, develop, and deploy products. You will take an active role in shaping the engineering culture and mentoring other members of the team. Senior platform engineers enjoy a high degree of autonomy and ownership of the services they build.\n\n### **Who we're looking for**\n\nWe are looking for team players who want to grow rapidly in their career. We think these skills and experiences make a good fit for this role. There is no such thing as a perfect fit - we want to hear from you if you believe you have the chops and are excited about what we do.\n\n- At least 5 years of professional software development experience. Any experience with JVM languages is a bonus!\n- A familiarity with or willingness to learn Scala\n- You've been the technical lead designing and developing highly responsive REST APIs, working with technical and non technical stakeholders\n- Solid foundation with relational database design and experience working with Postgres at scale\n- Strong ownership of the full development lifecycle, including designing, development, testing, and deployment.\n- You've worked on a small, highly collaborative team.\n- You want to own and drive engineering culture.\n\n**Other Useful Experiences**\n\n- You've worked with or designed high volume messaging services at scale\n- Deep understanding of telephony or VOIP systems. You've previously lead a technical integration with a telephony provider such as Twilio, Bandwidth, etc\n- Building microservices and distributed systems\n- Fraud detection at scale\n- Implementing analytics pipelines\n- Solid understanding of software testing principles\n- Working with AWS or other cloud computing service\n\n### What you'll be doing\n\n- Designing, developing, and leading others in building fast, scalable server features and services to support the Burner mobile applications.\n- Maintaining and improving existing infrastructure, and be willing to jump in when things break.\n- Working closely with the DevOps team to monitor performance and coordinate deploys across platform services.\n- Brainstorming potential features to align with company strategy. We believe good ideas come throughout the organization and will give you the support to make your idea a reality.\n- Work with junior team members as the technical lead on projects and as a mentor.\n\n### Perks and Benefits\n\n- Health and Dental coverage for employees, dependents, and domestic partners\n- 401K with company 4% match\n- Choose how you want to invest in your career development. We reimburse for training, conferences, and online learning resources.\n- Work remotely in style. Get a stipend to set up or enhance your remote work setup.\n\n### Our Hiring Process\n\nOur hiring process is structured to find talented, eager people who are looking for something more than just another engineering role. We think the hiring process should assess your ability to succeed day to day at Ad Hoc Labs. You'll meet a cross section of the team you'll work with daily and we'll work through example problems and scenarios you'll encounter in the work, not problems meant to be gotchas. No BS, we promise. We're looking for people that have a solid technical foundation, clear communicators, and those excited about the opportunity here at Ad Hoc Labs.\n\n### Our values\n\nWe believe that a team is more than the sum of its parts. We put the customer experience at the center of all of our projects. We take pride in the work we do and like to have fun doing it. We are always trying to learn, from our customers, from one another, and wherever inspiration lives. We believe people do their best work when they have the authority to succeed, the support to succeed, and clear metrics for success.\n\nDuring the current pandemic, Ad Hoc Labs is a fully remote company and we anticipate remaining that way through 2021. Candidate needs to be able to maintain a productive remote working environment with access to video quality internet.\n\nAd Hoc Labs, Inc. is an equal employment opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit. \nAt Elastic, we have a simple goal: to solve the world's data problems with products that delight and inspire. As the company behind the popular open source projects — Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, and Beats — we help people around the world do great things with their data. From stock quotes to Twitter streams, Apache logs to WordPress blogs, our products are extending what's possible with data, delivering on the promise that good things come from connecting the dots. Diversity drives our vibe. We unite Elasticians across 30+ countries into one coherent team, while the broader community spans across over 100 countries.\n\nAbout The Team:\n\nStack and Solutions is a subteam under Cloud Engineering. This team is responsible for two main areas: integrating Elastic Stack features like Index Lifecycle Management, Kibana Canvas, etc into the Cloud platform and building a foundation for products like Enterprise Search, AppSearch to be managed on the Cloud platform.\n\nEngineering Philosophy:\n\nEngineering a highly complex distributed system that is easy to operate via elegantly designed components and APIs is a non-trivial effort. It requires solid software development skills, and more importantly, a sharp mind and the ability to think like a user. We also care deeply about giving you full ownership of what you’re working on. Our company fundamentally believes great minds achieve greatness when they are set free and are surrounded and challenged by their peers, which is clearly visible in our organization. We feel that anyone needs to be in a position to comment on truly anything, regardless of his or her role within the company.\n\nSome of the things you'll work on:\n\n\n* Collaborate with distributed team of engineers from all across the globe.\n\n* Implement Elastic Stack features like Cross Cluster Replication, autoscaling of Elasticsearch Clusters.\n\n* Participate in coding, debugging complex failure scenarios, and triaging bugs in production SaaS and on-premise software.\n\n* Work with the team to help build scalable solutions to deliver the best user experience.\n\n* You'll mentor your co-workers and review code and design.\n\n* Understand our company strategy and help to translate it into technical deliverables and guide Cloud’s product direction to realize it.\n\n* Lead technical designs and build POCs for new efforts, validating a wild idea works before contributing to it.\n\n* Collaborate with the support team to support our products and get feedback on the product.\n\n\n\n\nWhat you will bring along:\n\n\n* You have several years of experience as a software engineer, with a track record of delivering high-quality, scalable code.\n\n* You have experience with Elasticsearch. You should be able to debug Elasticsearch issues and show interest in understanding the internals.\n\n* Strong on Scala and Java in general, including concurrency concepts and the standard library of data structures.\n\n* You've built things with elasticsearch before, and understand how distributed systems operate and the limitations and advantages.\n\n* Previous experience providing technical leadership for a small team of engineers.\n\n* Experience integrating with marketplace and/or console offers from hosting providers (Azure, GCP, etc.) is a huge plus.\n\n\n\n\nAdditional Information:\n\n\n* Deeply competitive pay and benefits\n\n* Equity compensation\n\n* Catered lunches, snacks, and beverages in most offices\n\n* An environment in which you can balance great work with a great life\n\n* Passionate people building phenomenal products\n\n\n\n\n#LI-SH1\n\nElastic is an Equal Employment employer committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action for all applicants and employees. \nreDock Inc. is looking for a senior Java / Kotlin full stack developer (Java / Kotlin / Scala on the backend and JavaScript / React on the frontend) to help us build our core product. Our software leverages machine learning, search, and other techniques to extract corporate content into meaningful segments that can be repurposed to accelerate document creation. As a motivated full-stack developer in a startup environment, you will have tremendous say in the work you do and the direction of our product.\n\nOur target stack is Kotlin, JavaScript ES6 with React and GraphQL, SQL, graph database, and ElasticSearch backends, running on Linux with Docker and Kubernetes.\n\nYou will primarily build the backend services for our product, such as to manage content, search it efficiently, handle import and export capabilities, deal with user authentication and authorization, and more. You will integrate your software with systems like ArangoDB, ElasticSearch and Kafka. You will also build out our GraphQL API, and implement React components on the frontend. If you have the ability and the interest, you may also be involved with the devops for our solution, and with training and using machine learning for classification, segmentation, and analysis of our data.\n\nAbout You\n\nAs a candidate, you love writing software. You always pay attention to the details. Your code is consistent, beautiful and bulletproof. Your log messages are useful. Your terminal window is always a keystroke away. You likely know regular expressions almost as well as you know your native language. You love playing with and prototyping new technology and frameworks. You understand the difference between sync, async, blocking and non-blocking code. You love tinkering with stuff. You like a challenge when solving problems and live for that “aha!” moment when you solve a doozy. You are always striving to expand your knowledge and toolset. You have strong opinions and an active mind. You will have great examples of bringing tremendous value to the organizations you have worked for.\n\nQualifications\n\n\n* At least 4-5 years of relevant work experience\n\n* Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience\n\n* Expert backend development on any JVM language (Java, Kotlin, Scala, Groovy, Clojure)\n\n* Strong frontend development, ideally with JavaScript ES6, React or Angular, and related libraries and tools\n\n* Experience with designing APIs using REST, SOAP/XML, and possibly GraphQL\n\n* Relational database design and SQL\n\n* Unit testing tools such as JUnit\n\n* Professional application development experience\n\n* Linux/UNIX use and maintenance\n\n* Strong English communication skills, written and verbal. Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues\n\n* A mature individual that can work unattended and meet deadlines in a home office environment\n\n\n\n\nNice to Haves\n\n\n* Know or can learn .NET, Python, Go\n\n* Experience with search tech like Lucene, ElasticSearch, or Solr\n\n* Expert source control, ideally Git or other DVCS\n\n* Non-relational (NoSQL) database design and query, including document and graph databases\n\n* Experience with functional and Reactive programming\n\n* Experience building micro-services architectures using tools like gRPC and Kafka\n\n* Experience with the Gradle build tool, and continuous integration with Jenkins or TeamCity\n\n* Devops experience, containers e.g. Docker, Kubernetes\n\n* Familiarity with machine learning\n\n* Contributions to open source projects\n\n* Active on sites like StackOverflow\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Java, Senior, Full Stack, Developer, Digital Nomad, React, DevOps, English, JavaScript, Elasticsearch, Git, Scala, Linux and Backend jobs that are similar:\n\n $62,500 — $120,000/year\n
