Who are we looking for
We’re looking for an experienced Python developer who loves to build innovative and high-quality products. As part of a senior and highly committed team you will use Python’s latest patterns and libraries such as FastAPI to build core backend services for our products. You will come into contact with infrastructure such as Kafka and Kubernetes, expose your services as OpenAPI 3.0 services, and you will work in an environment where quality comes first enforced by automated continuous deployment procedures. Consumers of your services are both mobile apps and web apps managed by InvestSuite as well as 3rd party services and applications. The first consumer using your service will be a Javascript-based console (written in React) for wealth managers to manage and improve their customer’s investment portfolios. For now we are only able to hire people who live in Europe.

Design and implement clean and scalable public and internal APIs.

Required skills & experience
Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar field - or equivalent professional experience.
At least 4 years of Python experience (not counting education).
Knowledge about / experience with:
FastAPI;
Pydantic;
pre-commit (the Python tool, not the git hook);
type annotations in Python including checks with mypy;
difference between pyproject.toml and setup.cfg.
English fluency - spoken & written.
Proactivity & problem solving skills. Proactive in solving risks and issues in a timely manner, or to re-prioritize on close collaboration with the product owner if required.
Experience with agile project approaches (Scrum).
Other skills & experience we would love to see
Knowledge & experience with reactive architecture, microservices and containerization technologies such as Docker.
Expertise in writing unit tests and end to end platform integration tests.
Experience with automated build, test and deploy pipelines.
Knowledge of cloud and serverless architectures as well as infrastructure as code.
Passion for technologies for distributed messaging such as Kafka, Akka.
Affinity with financial markets and wealth management.

Who you are:
We are currently looking to hire a Backend Engineer. The ideal candidate has proven development skills, deep experience building APIs, familiarity with various database systems (SQL, noSQL, Graph), and experience working as part of a development team in a D2C startup environment.
As part of our Tech team, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of our products and will focus on building, iterating, and optimizing our admin environment, and other new and existing components of our digital ecosystem.
We expect the ideal candidate to take ownership of project delivery with a self-starter attitude. A collaborative work ethic and easy-going nature is a must.
You will be part of a team collaborating with different stakeholders across the company, from Science, to Research and Veterinary, to Marketing, Tech, and Design.
A native level of English both spoken and written is preferred.
Responsibilities
Design and implement server-side components of a modern web application
Actively participate in the overall application lifecycle.
Define and communicate technical requirements.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define product requirements, including project managers, backend and frontend developers, designers and others.
Write high-quality reusable code ensuring high performance.
Knowledge And Skills
Proven hands-on backend web development experience.
In-depth understanding of web development and proficient knowledge of Node.js, Javascript, Python.
Strong knowledge of API development and Service Oriented Architectures: Microservices, RESTful.
Deep experience with Git is a must.
Expertise with all aspects of the software development lifecycle, from discovery phase to delivery.
Experience with various database systems (SQL, NoSQL, graph). Proven experience with Amazon DynamoDB is a plus.
Experience creating user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments.
Capability to integrate multiple data sources into one system.
Experience deploying to AWS cloud services: S3, Cloudfront, EC2, API Gateway.
Ability to take concepts into actionable architecture and plans.
Experience building “admin dashboard” applications is a plus.
Plus capabilities
Knowledge of front-end technologies and platforms, such as HTML5, and CSS3, React, Ionic.
Experience working in direct-to-consumer companies and brands.
Experience building backend for mobile applications.
Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks such as Cypress.
Previous experience or interest in data analysis.
Science and Medical experience in previous roles is a big plus.
