\nThe Opportunity\n\nOur frontend is implemented in React, structured as an API consumer of our Ruby on Rails backend. We're in the midst of a comprehensive redesign of the look and feel of our product, and we're seeing years of foundational work realized in developer productivity and value delivered to our users. Your opportunity is to join us in implementing design principles of usability, and discoverability, and in making good on our promise to enable our users to go on better rides more often. We've built a strong presence in the cycling community over the past 10+ years, and we're committed to supporting the core features and values important to our long term supporters. We do not require prior React experience; we are much more interested in candidates who are excited about what we're building, and who can't wait to help us improve products that make cycling better for our millions of users. That said, in order to excel in this position, we do expect multiple years of experience putting complex, functional code in front of users at scale. At this time, we are not accepting junior developers.\n\nTechnology that we regularly use:\n\n\n* React\n\n* Babel\n\n* Webpack\n\n* NodeJS\n\n* Figma\n\n* CircleCI for frontend CI\n\n* Jenkins for backend CI\n\n* GitHub for version control\n\n* Existing code is traditional Rails and HAML/SASS based templating, as well as Backbone and sundry other Javascript. All new frontend development is done in React.\n\n* OpenStreetMap rendering and routing stack (mapnik, postGIS, TileMill for style dev, GraphHopper based routing). Bonus points if you have map styling experience!\n\n\n\n\nBenefits\n\nWe offer a competitive salary as well as health, dental and vision insurance, and a 401k with a 10% match. You'll be equipped with a new Macbook Pro, iMac, or Linux machine, a standing desk and any other productivity tools that are needed. We strongly believe in testing our own software, and as a result are more than happy to help defray some of the costs of cycling, including offering a one-time new bicycle stipend.\n\nIn light of the global pandemic, Ride with GPS is working remotely and offers a stipend for setting up a home office. Moving forward, employees will be able to work from home indefinitely, and we are also monitoring health guidelines and hope to offer an option to work in a shared office environment when it is safe to do so.\n\nWhat's Next?\n\nWe are based in Portland, OR and encourage residents across Oregon and Washington to apply by emailing [email protected] with your resume and an overview of any work relevant to the position. Please include at least a paragraph explaining your relationship with cycling, and optionally a cover letter with your pronouns. We'll respond in a timely manner and move things forward for promising candidates.\n\nRide with GPS is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming workplace for all members of our staff. We believe having a diverse team makes our product and our company better, and we are working to ensure our reality reflects those ideals. We invite applicants of any race, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability or limitation, religion, or background to apply and look forward to hearing from you. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

We are moving from a traditional RoR architecture to a modern "single page application", exposing our application as a set of API's consumed by Ember to provide a rich interactive experience.\n\nWe have migrated our customer-facing ticket selling application to Ember and our ticket scanning application to Ember, with great success. We are currently working on rebuilding the backend of our platform with the immediate focus been on our "Point of Sale". This covers the CRM, reporting/analytics and configurations aspects of our backend.\n\nOver the last few months, we have grown the front end, Ember team. Our coordination and communication are mostly through daily 'catch-up meetings' and use of appropriate tools such as Trello for backlog management, Slack for communication and Git(GitHub) for source control and feature deployment through PRs and Milestones.\n\nFrom a coding perspective, we place a strong emphasis on clean, minimal, well-refactored code backed up by a robust suite of automated tests. We make use of peer review for all design and development work.\n\nIn general, we strive for an approach that empowers and trusts individuals to 'do the right thing', and as a team, we try and keep each other true to this.\n\n# Remote working\nOur development team works as a remote team with members in Berlin, Malmรถ, Barcelona, Singapore and Taiwan. Our wider organisation has people based in United Kingdom and Dublin. Dublin is our headquarters and main office space - with core Support team and Sales and Marketing team.\n\nRemote working has become part of our company DNA. We believe that it offers a lot of advantages to both Ticketsolve and employees. This means that you should be comfortable working as part of a remote team. If this is new to you, don't worry, it was for us at the beginning as well. We now have lots of experience helping people settle in - so keep an open mind and imagine a working day with no daily commute!\n\nImportant to note that timezones are a consideration for us with remote working. We're looking for a full-time backend Rails developer to help build and maintain our social media management tool, Edgar. Edgar launched less than a year ago and has thousands of paying customers that will use the features you build every day. We’re growing ~20% month on month. (No pressure, right?)\n\n\nYou’ll be working on big, exciting projects like optimizing our Sidekiq queuing system to work JIT, creating an intelligent scheduler (analyze users’ data and figure out when they should be sending social media updates out), and migrating our customer analytics code to use a middle layer like segment.io. You’ll also have shared responsibility for choosing and mentoring a junior dev or two, Obi-Wan Kenobi-style.\n(We have a dedicated, amazing, devilishly handsome front end Rails dev on the team - who totally didn’t write this listing or anything - so it’s ok if you’re not super comfortable with the front end stuff. You’ll be the go-to person for the backend stories, with the confidence and experience to back that up.)\n\nOur stack is Rails 4, Ruby 2.1, Heroku, Postgres, Sidekiq + Redis, HAML, Coffeescript and React.js.\nOur Dev Process\n\nWe do a fair amount of pair programming and a lot of code reviews, we love solid tests and CI, and we’re moving toward CD as quickly as we can. Basically? We’re constantly improving our process so we can create an ideal developer environment - low overheads, high transparency, and as flat as we can be. Estimates were inaccurate and irrelevant, so we dropped ‘em. Artificial deadlines weren’t doing it for us, so we switched from scrum to pure kanban and never looked back. When something isn’t working, we’re not afraid to throw it out and try something new - so if you have exciting ideas about the dev process and how to make your own job even easier, you’ll fit right in.\n\nWe’re striving for a flat organisation, so you’ll be choosing your own priorities from incoming stories (with support from customer service, marketing, and the rest of the company, of course). You’ll also have final responsibility for features, from inception all the way through to delivery, so your teammates know exactly who to shower with praise when you score a big win. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
