๐Ÿ‘‰ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!

When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. When clicking on the button to apply above, you will leave Remote OK and go to the job application page for that company outside this site. Virtual Pricing Director is hiring a full-stack engineer to help implement our new legal tech web application - contributing across all aspects of our app, its data, architecture and deployment.\n\nWeโ€™re a well-funded scaleup (no VC money) building the future of legal pricing, for small and large law firms alike. Our workflow and data management software means an end to overcharging clients, arbitrary pricing, and other bad practices that have existed for years.\n\nOur two directors are recognised world authorities in this domain, and bring a number of signed firms ready to use our software. We're off to a healthy start, busy preparing to deploy to one of the world's largest legal teams.\n\nThe work is varied, challenging, and we place equal emphasis on front and back-end. Because of the need to deliver scheduled features, fix bugs, and respond to the needs of newly onboarded firms, weโ€™re looking for someone who relishes lots of hands-on work, contributing across the whole stack. \n\nOur app is powered by React, with Apollo Client for its GraphQL queries and mutations. It leverages Ant Design as the UI framework, upon which we build a mixture of UI components; some simple, some complex. On the back-end, we're using PostgreSQL as our RDS, TypeORM as our ORM, TypeGraphQL to define the API schema, and Apollo Server to deliver the GraphQL.\n\nBoth our front and back ends are coded in TypeScript. We believe in end-to-end testing and have therefore used Playwright to handle an automated E2E test script which runs before deployments.\n\nYou'll join us as we begin to roll out our product to some of the top law firms, and in time to help define, design and build the next two roadmapped modules, and to grow from there.\n\n\n**Upcoming projects across the team**\n\n* Building out a suite of new modules, from designing the underlying business logic and data models, to designing and implementing the application, front-ends and infrastructure\n* Standardising on common approaches that uphold modern enterprise architecture standards\n* New data visualisation and BI reporting solutions\n* Designing and implementing new APIs and data integration pipelines\n* Helping automate quality, CI/CD, and shaping a DevOps approach\n* Contributing to our development culture, methods, and tooling\n* Optionally; supporting dialogue with customers - discovery, requirements, technical solution design, implementation \n\n\n\n**We're looking for**\n\n* Someone with full-stack engineering abilities that span the application, front-end, data and infrastructure considerations\n* A good technical understanding of software engineering principles \n* Technology agnostic, and adept with TypeScript, React, Node.js, PostgreSQL and GraphQL\n* An understanding of the principles of serverless applications, preferably based around AWS\n* Proficient with SQL, and web service design\n* An interest in upholding data security principles and helping choose and implement effective application architectures\n* Ability to unpack complex requirements, to uphold security of sensitive data and to conform to best practices\n* A collaborative, adaptable, user-centred approach\n\n\n**You may also bring - or like to gain - skills around**\n\nAnt Design | TypeORM | TypeGraphQL | Apollo Client | Apollo Server | Java | CircleCI | Heroku | Auth0 | AWS | TDD | Agile | Domain-driven design (DDD) | data modelling | integration patterns\n\n**Salary and benefits**\n\n* ยฃ70,000 - ยฃ90,000 - reviewed at six months - we're keeping an open mind\n* Share scheme for formative team members (once proven value to the business)\n* 25 days holiday, plus public holidays and a day for your birthday\n* Family-friendly and flexible culture - tell us what you need\n* Personal development plan that you can shape, with budget for related training/certifications\n\n**About us**\n\nVirtual Pricing Director has developed groundbreaking software to assist law firms to understand and price their fees, be that ยฃ10k or ยฃ10m. We are the authority for legal pricing and our software has attracted the attention of the largest firms in numerous countries, with a number of partnerships and customers signed. \nWe're now strengthening our fully-remote development team - you'll be our fourth engineering colleague, with more to follow - offering a culture where you will work under your own initiative towards common goals. It's an opportunity to be a formative team member, joining a friendly flat-structured team that operates without ego, and to grow and improve together. \nVirtual Pricing Director is a privately-owned venture, founded by Burcher Jennings LLP and Validatum. https://www.virtualpricingdirector.com/\n\n**Location:** fully remote, within the UK only\n\n**Please note, we are only considering candidates that hold an established right to work in the UK**\n \n\nPlease mention the word **LOVES** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xMzc=). This is a feature to avoid spam applicants. Companies can search these words to find applicants that read this and see they're human.\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n $80,000 — $120,000/year\n \n\n#Location\nUK

\nCome help us build one of the most exciting new products for the media and entertainment industry! Qwire is revolutionizing how studios, editors, composers, artists, publishers, labels and performance rights organizations collaborate. Managing the entire audio lifecycle of movies, television shows, and live sports broadcasts is no small task. Making sure that accurate licensing information gets to the right destination so people can get paid is even a bigger one. Studios like Warner Bros. are replacing their million-dollar home-grown solutions and spreadsheets with our Saas offering. \nAs a Senior Software Engineer at Qwire, you will be a part of a cross functional team developing a full stack JavaScript application. Our technical stack includes Node.js powering our REST APIs and services, along with Postgresql, Redis, and ElasticSearch deployed on AWS. On the front end, we use React, Redux, and Thunks. At Qwire, we write our own tests as developers. We use Jest as our testing framework, and maintain unit, API integration, and end-to-end tests using Cypress.io.\nYou should have depth and experience across some meaningful subset of our stack. We like generalists, especially ones with 'T' shaped experience - depth in one area and broad interest in developing other areas. While we'll play to your strengths, you'll have the opportunity to learn and contribute across the entire code base. At Qwire, we value a friendly, collaborative, data driven culture that places a premium on learning: slope over intercept. \nResponsibilities\n* Your primary responsibility will be writing high quality, clear, maintainable JavaScript that improves our product. Qwire is still a small team, so every engineer contributes to the code base.\n* Lead by example with the code you contribute, code reviews, and peer programming\n* Collaborate with product management to manage and execute the product roadmap. \n* Work with the CTO and the development team to analyze and design the application architecture and implement functional requirements\n* As part of the development team, contribute to improving our development and deployment processes\n* Identify any pain points in our logging, monitoring, and APM; design and implement improvements to overall observability and performance.\n* Be welcoming and approachable. Answer questions about our tooling and processes with kindness and compassion. Help others understand the work we do and how they can improve their craft.\n\n\n\nExperience that will be helpful\n* 5+ years of full-stack engineering experience with JavaScript in Node.js and React\n* A track record of developing web-based applications and a deep technical understanding of JavaScript technologies such as Node.js, React, and Redux.\n* Experience as a lead engineer for project of increasing complexity, ideally in a startup environment\n* Experience with docker-based container development and deployment\n* Experience with web design architecture and stage-appropriate scalability \n* Familiarity with application security best practices, OAUTH, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)\n* Some familiarity with database management, monitoring, debugging will be helpful\n* Experience with functional and class-based JavaScript code. Previous experience with another functional language (Scala, Clojure, Haskell, Elixir, etc.) is preferred, but not required.\n\n\nWe don't require you to submit a resume, but please do submit one if you think it will help us understand your background. We place more emphasis on you telling us a bit about yourself, why you're a good fit for this project, and your relevant experience. A couple of paragraphs in the "About You" section will do. That should give us enough context to review your GitHub profile, open-source contributions, and/or other code you've written, which we've found is the best way identify potential team members. Please include a link to your personal website, repo, or other online code you've written that we can have a look at. \nEvery candidate that submits an application will get a response. We'll reach out to selected candidates to schedule an initial call after reviewing each submission. Our interviewing process is fast and straightforward: no brainteasers, no coding challenges, and your first conversation will be with another engineer, not a recruiter. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to JavaScript, Senior, Engineer, Full Stack, Developer, Digital Nomad, Elasticsearch, API and SaaS jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $120,000/year\n

GooseChase is hiring a

Remote Senior Back End Engineer

**Radical candor? More like radical gander, right?**\n\nOk, enough goose puns for the moment, but now that weโ€™ve got your attention, allow us to tell you more about this company called GooseChase and why might you want to join us!\n\nYou love an app that makes you smile, right? Well our product is a lot of fun. And even though our origins are that of a humble scavenger hunt app, weโ€™ve now evolved (hatched?) into a super-flexible platform used by millions to create all sorts of experiences! Itโ€™s all the best parts of a scavenger hunt, with a delightful twist to keep you coming back for more.\n\nWith all that fun and flexibility, weโ€™ve been growing like crazy. For teachers in the classroom, weโ€™re the new โ€œTV cartโ€, aka the learning tool that students legitimately look forward to. For todayโ€™s workplaces, virtual or otherwise, we help the team connect with each other to the point where they want to come into (or logon) to work. And for local cities and towns, we bring families together in a way that truly builds a sense of community.\n\nBut weโ€™re also unique in that we donโ€™t have any investors and, as a result, are able to put our people before profit. Seriously. We have a profit sharing program specifically for this reason! It also means we grow at the pace we want to and put the time into making this the best possible place to work. When we do something, itโ€™s because itโ€™s the best thing for our team and our customers, no matter what. Weโ€™ve actually been fully remote from the very beginning, because we wanted our people to have the flexibility to live wherever and however they wanted!\n\n**So what exactly is this job?**\n\nIf youโ€™re looking for impact & ownership, this is about as good as it gets. Youโ€™ll have the opportunity to take lead on our back-end tech stack going forward, charting our technical path, contributing to our product direction and helping shape the team as we grow!\n\nFrom a day to day perspective, youโ€™ll be a core member of our cross-functional product development team, focused on both the game organizer and participant experiences. Within our product team, there are no silos or artificial barriers, meaning youโ€™ll be working closely with other engineers and designers! Whatever will help give our customers the best experience possible!\n\nWe recognize building the best products requires using the best tools, so we empower our engineers through access to the best tools and hardware available to remove barriers and enable fast iterating, robust code deployments.\n\nIn terms of technologies, youโ€™ll be working closely with our front-end engineers as well as developing our API and async task system which:\n\n* Is currently based on Django / TastyPie / Celery, with plans to migrate to a Node.js-based architecture (thatโ€™s where you come in!)\n* Stores data in Postgresql, with images & videos in S3\n* Utilizes redis and memcached for caching, session storage, and async task result storage\n* Runs on Linode, switching over shortly to our new kubernetes-based cluster\n* Powers our mobile applications and web-based game manager\n\nLooking at how we work, our methodologies are:\n* Continuous integration using CircleCI to empower developer autonomy and shorten development cycles\n* Agile, with two week sprint cycles\n* Daily async check-ins - stay connected to the team, but without zombie standups\n* Project management in Asana, with our โ€œofficeโ€ taking place on Slack & Zoom - we have a very strong gif game\n\n**How do you know if this might be for you?**\n\nAt GooseChase youโ€™ll be working alongside a team of highly motivated, world-class engineers with tons of opportunities for learning, growth, and mentorship. Our product team works closely together, so we are extremely selective about who we hire to ensure the calibre of our engineering talent remains high. \nBanno is redefining the relationship between forward-thinking financial institutions and their customers. Banno leverages bleeding edge technology and an industry leading product vision to make user-friendly mobile and web apps. We have a first-class API; the same API our web and mobile apps use is the same API that is open to the community to build on top of and extend.\n\nAbout You\n\nYou are infinitely curious and thrive in an environment where you are constantly learning and growing. You want to be somewhere that you are trusted and set up for success every day. You want to be somewhere that surrounds you with great managers, engineers, and co-workers who drive you to be better everyday.\n\nAs a manager, you care as much about the overall production of the team as you do their shared culture and well-being. You strive to set the team up for success by helping them overcome potential obstacles and communicate their needs to the appropriate channels. You’ll work with the team to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and enable processes to support their unique working style without compromising their efficiency (a little rudder far from the rocks).\n\nBanno values trust and those with a bias towards action, and as a manager you’ll work to instill these beliefs within your team. We have a remote-first culture that challenges you each day and supports your growth. We are confident you will love it here.\n\nWhat you and your team are working on\n\nThe Senior Engineering Manager is responsible for balancing the team’s work between cross-functional strategic projects. You will support and develop the engineers on your team by providing advice, coaching, and educational opportunities, as well as propose and drive processes to facilitate and promote communication, transparency, and trust. Together with the team, you will support delivery by providing estimations, context, and clarity to ensure the team delivers the agreed work with quality and excellence.\n\nThe Node Team provides APIs and web servers for a suite of single page applications as well as our online banking product. Our APIs are first-class in nature and are consumed by both our internal teams as well as teams outside of Banno. The engineers on your team are constantly keeping our apps up-to-date with the newest development and deployment practices to offer exciting user experiences for highly secured data.\n\nAbout the Banno team\n\nWe are committed to creativity, thoughtfulness, culture, and openness—the perfect place to make phenomenal products that have a big impact. \nJob Responsibilities\n\n\n* Make sure our infrastructure stays up and running 24/7.\n\n* Repair nodes as they fail and deploy new hardware as we scale our infrastructure.\n\n* Perform task related to deploying new software, managing DNS, maintaining OS security patches, etc.\n\n* We have an existing infrastructure that you will be managing for the next 90 days as we transition to our new stack.  \n\n* Deploy new systems and scale our infrastructure as we expand our capacity for more content and customers.\n\n\n\n\nIdeal Candidate\n\nThis position can be located anywhere in the world with ideally at least a 4 hour overlap with the Pacific Standard Time Zone (PST / UTC-8). We're based out of San Francisco but are migrating to the international level. If you don't have a natural time overlap with UTC-8 you should be willing to work evenings to be able to communicate easily with the rest of the team.\n\nCulturally, we’re a remote company and want to embrace it as a way to reward our employees. We are fine with you working in remote locations as long as you’re generally available for communication and are productive.\n\nThe plan is to transfer all operations management to you, including being on call for outages, and knowing our operations tasks including bringing up new machines, dealing with failures, etc.\n\nWe want someone to come in full time as a contractor role. I suspect we will need about 40 hours from you per week.  \n\nArchitecture:\n\nOur infrastructure consists of Java on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) with the stack running on ActiveMQ, Cassandra, Zookeeper, and Jetty. We use Ansible to manage our boxes. We have a full-text search engine based on Elasticsearch and store our firehose API data within Cassandra.\n\nWe have a totally new stack and infrastructure at this point. We recently did a full-stack rewrite and moved all the old code to our new infrastructure. This means we have very little legacy cruft to deal with.\n\nHere's all the cool stuff you get to play with:\n\n\n* Large Linux / Ubuntu cluster running with the OS versioned using both Ansible and our own debian packages for software distribution.\n\n* Massive amount of data indexed from the web and social media.  We index from 5-20TB of data per month and want to expand to 100TB of data per month.\n\n* Large Cassandra install on SSD.  \n\n* SOLR / Elastic Search migration / install.  We’re experimenting with bringing this up now so it would be valuable to get your feedback.\n\n\n\n\nCompensation:\n\n\n* Salary based on experience. We're willing to be competitive and a great company to work for.\n\n* Ability to work remotely at home. Live work balance is a must.\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to JavaScript, Node, Engineer, Linux, Ops, Elasticsearch, Java, API and Cassandra jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $120,000/year\n
