About Phaidra\n\nPhaidra is building the future of industrial automation.\n\nThe world today is filled with static, monolithic infrastructure. Factories, power plants, buildings, etc. operate the same they've operated for decades โ because the controls programming is hard-coded. Thousands of lines of rules and heuristics that define how the machines interact with each other. The result of all this hard-coding is that facilities are frozen in time, unable to adapt to their environment while their performance slowly degrades.\n\nPhaidra creates AI-powered control systems for the industrial sector, enabling industrial facilities to automatically learn and improve over time. Specifically:\n\n\n* We use reinforcement learning algorithms to provide this intelligence, converting raw sensor data into high-value actions and decisions.\n\n* We focus on industrial applications, which tend to be well-sensorized with measurable KPIs โ perfect for reinforcement learning.\n\n* We enable domain experts (our users) to configure the AI control systems (i.e. agents) without writing code. They define what they want their AI agents to do, and we do it for them.\n\n\n\n\nOur team has a track record of applying AI to some of the toughest problems. From achieving superhuman performance with DeepMind's AlphaGo, to reducing the energy required to cool Google's Data Centers by 40%, we deeply understand AI and how to apply it in production for massive impact.\n\nPhaidra is based in the USA but 100% remote; we do not have a physical office. We hire employees internationally with the help of our partner, OysterHR. Our team is currently located throughout the USA, Canada, UK, Norway, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and India.\n\n**Please only apply to one opening. **OVERVIEW**\n\nWe're looking for Security Engineers to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will build innovative payments products that delight both engineering and finance teams. As an early member of the engineering team, you will help shape the engineering culture of a fast-growing startup.\n\nThe core platform at Modern Treasury sits between our customers and their banks. In the same way that Twilio abstracted away the complexity of working with communication networks, we have built an easy-to-use, common interface into the banking system. Our customers use our products to do things like move money to or from their users, automate back-office work, and record their transaction ledgers. The companies that can use Modern Treasury move over $750 trillion a year via bank payments, as compared to only $2 trillion per year on card payments.\n\nOur API is often the most critical piece of infrastructure that our customers use. We place a premium on building robust, scalable systems that can sustain a high volume of API calls and exceed the reliability requirements to move money at scale. We complement this with well-thought out interfaces for our users and pride in writing quality API docs.\n\nWe believe in using the best tool for the job, rather than always using open source or building things ourselves. We actively embrace open source in parts of our system but aren't afraid to roll our own solution for things like writing and parsing bank files. We also contribute to open source (for example, https://www.moderntreasury.com/journal/continuous-accounting-building-on-an-open-source-library).\n\nIn addition to our API, we have had a web platform since day 1 that is used by accountants, controllers, and engineers. They use our platform to do things like manage payment workflows and monitor their business. As an engineer, you will work with our product team to build products and features for these users.\n\n**ABOUT MODERN TREASURY**\n\nModern Treasury is payment operations software for businesses with a high volume of transactions or complex payment flows. Modern Treasury automates the full cycle of money movement โ from payment initiation, through approvals, to reconciliation.\n\nOur mission is to transform the way businesses move and track money, driving toward a world where payments are real-time, reconciliation is instant, and accounting is continuous.\n\n**WEEK BY WEEK**\n\nDuring your first week you will:\n* Get to know our leadership, culture, and values\n* Onboard with the engineering team\n* Ship your first commit on day 1\n* Take on 1-2 small tickets to address bugs or make minor improvements\n* Read our favorite industry primers\n\nDuring your first six weeks you will:\n* Ship your first major project\n* Write your first blog post. We love writing at Modern Treasury (and have been on the front page of Hacker News multiple times with posts like "What Happens When You ACH a Dead Person?" and "How to Build an Insurance Company")\n* Shadow a few customer and partner meetings every week\n\nDuring your first six months you will:\n* Work with our product team to scope and ship products for both our engineering and finance users\n* Help grow our team by mentoring new engineers, writing internal tooling and documentation, and interviewing new hires\n\n**WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE**\n* Experience building web applications professionally for 2+ years\n* Experience working with SQL/Relational databases\n\n**TECHNOLOGIES WE USE**\n* Ruby on Rails for our backend framework\n* React, GraphQL, and Tailwind CSS on the front end\n* Postgres for our database\n* Redis for caching\n* AWS for infrastructure and hosting\n* Docker for containerization\n* GitHub for source code management\n* Buildkite for continuous integration\n\n**EOE**\n\nModern Treasury is committed to equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate in any employment opportunities or practices based on an individual's race, color, creed, gender (including gender identity and gender expression), religion (all aspects of religious beliefs, observance or practice, including religious dress or grooming practices), marital status, registered domestic partner status, age, national origin or ancestry (including language use restrictions and possession of a driverโs license issued under California Vehicle Code section 12801.9), natural hair, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, medical condition (including cancer or a record or history of cancer, and genetic characteristics), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding or related medical condition), genetic information, sexual orientation, military and veteran status or any other consideration made unlawful by federal, state, or local laws. It also prohibits unlawful discrimination based on the perception that anyone has any of those characteristics, or is associated with a person who has or is perceived as having any of those characteristics. \n\nPlease mention the words **DETECT COMMON PLATE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xMDc=). This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply. Work for Roger.ai and want to re-open this job? Use the edit link in the email when you posted the job!
**About Us**\n\nRoger was founded to make day-to-day financial operations like bill pay, expense management, compliance and bookkeeping as worry-free as possible for business owners, finance teams, accountants and bookkeepers. Roger works as an automated layer on top of a company's accounting software, saving businesses and accountants hours of work every day. We're proud of the product that we've built so far, and our global customer base agree that we're making something complex and tedious simple and maybe even fun.\nWe are backed by some of the best investors in the financial technology space, and most recently raised $7.5m from QED, Silicon Valley Bank and others. Joining Roger is a unique opportunity to join a team that's still small enough to be nimble but has great financial backing and cares about building an excellent product experience and a great team. We hire for attitude and not credentials. Please apply regardless of your educational background.\n\n**The Opportunity**\n\nThe Roger web application is the client with the highest usage by customers and users. A great web experience is essential for an excellent overall customer experience in Roger, and it's a priority for us to invest in improving and building out our web offering.\n\nWe are looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to be an integral part of the small clients team (iOS, Android, Web). You'll be able to take a leading role in delivering an excellent web experience to our 1,000+ customers and our thousands of users. Your primary tasks will include:\n\n* Working with the product and backend engineering team to implement new features on the frontend\n* Making sure the web client can scale 7-10x in the next year\n* Maintaining security and stability during rapid growth\n* Help mitigate and resolve bugs / work with the customer support team to resolve frontend bugs\n\nYou'll be working collaboratively with the rest of the engineering team as well as with the product team to drive the implementation and release of new features. You'll get familiar with all parts of our stack from end to end, and will drive positive change to Roger's engineering culture, processes and technology. We see this role as a unique chance to take a large ownership over an important piece of the Roger product, and grow into any role you see yourself in as we expand the team and the product.\n\n**The Team**\n\nThe engineering team is characterized by a high degree of support internally. We help each other out and pitch in when problems arise as well as give each other feedback to grow. Our top priority is to build the world's best financial automation platforms, while keeping our users safe and compliant. Scalability, reliability and robustness are keywords we live by but we also get excited about building out feature MVPs quickly to keep our innovative reputation with customers and partners alive and well at all times.\n\n**The Stack**\n\nWe use as a frontend stack React/Redux for modularity, simplicity and speed of development. Tests are run in Jest and Puppeteer and our landing sites are optimized for server-side rendering using Next.js. Our backend / API is built in C# / .NET for itโs robustness and security and our machine learning runs on Python.\nSome of the tools we use are Lamda (for integrations), AWS, Bugsnag, Heroku, CircleCI and other great tools to keep our development processes running smoothly.\n\n**Our Values**\n\nWe're a global company with offices in Copenhagen and San Francisco. Our values are heavily influenced by our Scandinavian roots (both founders are from Denmark), and count humility, humor and inclusiveness. We strive to create a culture where anyone feels part of the family, and we place a great amount of value in hiring for attitude rather than resumes. We support flexibility in everyone's lives, and working at Roger can be easily combined with babies, toddlers and teenagers. We have two primary office locations but have a remote culture that we put a lot of effort into as we believe great talent can be found anywhere. As a remote worker you can be sure to feel like you are as much part of the team as those who come to an office every day. About every 6 months we all get together in person. Our last trips took us to Greece and Spain. Everyone on the team shares a passion for creating the best possible product and user experience, and that is something we value in future team members as well.\n\n**The Roger Story**\n\nRoger's founders started the company after exiting their first startup to Cisco Systems. Please apply regardless of your educational background.\n\n\n**The Opportunity**\n\nWe are looking for a Software Engineer to run our integration efforts with our services. Our product integrates with a number of different services, such as accounting platforms like QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, as well as collaboration tools like Slack, Box and Dropbox. Allowing our customers to set up custom workflows that fit their exact needs is a core part of our product experience. We have an existing integration framework and a robust API in place, but we are looking to add a new team member to own the integration work end-to-end. This includes building new, as well as maintaining and improving the existing ones - all to ensure a stellar user experience.\nYou'll be working collaboratively with the rest of the engineering team as well as with the product team to drive the implementation and release of new integrations. You'll be familiar with all parts of our stack from end to end, and will drive positive change to Roger's engineering culture, processes and technology.\nWe see this role as a unique chance to own an important piece of the Roger product, see it grow, and flourish very quickly.\n\n**The Team**\n\nThe engineering team is characterized by a high degree of support internally. We help each other out and pitch in when problems arise as well as give each other feedback to grow. Our top priority is to build the world's best financial automation platforms, while keeping our users safe and compliant. Scalability, reliability and robustness are keywords we live by but we also get excited about building out feature MVPs quickly to keep our innovative reputation with customers and partners alive and well at all times.\n\n**The Stack**\n\nRoger's backend is built on .NET with C#. We love the simplicity, speed and structure of C#, combined with the built-in security and robustness it offers developers. On the front-end we work in React and React Native, enabling us to build reliable web experiences that can handle high usage volumes.\nAdditionally, we make extensive use of Lamda (integrations only), AWS, Git, Bugsnag, Heroku and other great tools to keep our development processes running smoothly.\n\n**Our Values**\n\nWe're a global company with offices in Copenhagen and San Francisco.
