๐ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!
When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. When clicking on the button to apply above, you will leave Remote OK and go to the job application page for that company outside this site. Remote OK accepts no liability or responsibility as a consequence of any reliance upon information on there (external sites) or here.

We're hiring a senior engineer at Gower Street for a 3 or 4 days/week role. We're 100% remote and looking for someone eligible to work in the UK to join us.
Gower Street is the industry leader in predicting the global box office. Our numbers are quoted by mainstream media and our systems are used by the majority of big studios out there. We're also a really small team with a switched-on approach to how we work and stuff like trust and flexibility.
We're hoping to bring somebody in who has an eye for quality in a "zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" sort of way and is able to go in and deliver new features while improving both existing systems and how we go about our work. You'll be part of a small development and data science team with responsibilities ranging from creating new predictive models and deploying them in production, to making front-end changes to deliver new features to our customers.
We're working in Clojure, Python, Go and Javascript using AWS, Terraform, PostgreSQL and Docker. We don't expect the ideal candidate to know all of these. We just expect you to be good at picking up tools and quick and getting up to speed.

How we work
We use an adapted version ofย Basecamp's Shape Upย approach, which for us means:
We work in cycles of 5 weeks of focused work and 1 week of cool down.
Each cycle sees one or more "bets" shipped, each having very specific and well defined requirements in addition to engineering sustainability work, and bugs.
During cool down, each of us choose what we want to work on, be it bugs, minor features, tech debt, exploring new concepts, and more.
Each of us can create an "idea pitch" for an upcoming cycle, and move our ideas along to eventually transform into bets and product features.
As a front-end product developer at Whimsical you will be helping to shape both the visual presentation and user experience at Whimsical by working on our collaboration tools using Canvas, improving our custom text-editor and contributing to other user facing features. Youโll be responsible for continually delighting our users with best-in-class thinking tools.
In addition to Shape Up, we also occasionally roll up our sleeves and do customer support to better understand our users and their needs, regardless of our role within the company.
Our primary mode of operation is asynchronous. We use real-time communication with great care, and only where it makes sense. We use Whimsical, email, Slack, and Zoom for our day-to-day communication.
But we also believe in spending quality time together, which is why we try to bring everyone from around the world together at least twice a year for what we call "Whimsical Summits". At Summits we focus on getting to know each other better and building bonds that help us communicate better when we're apart.
About Whimsical
Whimsical was founded in 2017 by Kaspars Dancis and Steve Schoeffel to help people think and collaborate in the digital-first work environment.
Whimsical's product is expressive, fast, and delightful. We believe that software should spark joy, not dread.
We are a remote-first company and big proponents of remote work because it democratizes the opportunities for people everywhere.
Our operating philosophy is based on set of core principles, such as:
Sustainability:ย We don't believe in growth at all costs. Growth is a fundamental part of a healthy existence but we want it to be in balance with sustainability and bounded by ethical behavior. We strive to work calm, 40-hour work weeks. Whimsical is also committed to doing our part towardsย sustainable future for the planet.
Craftsmanship:ย We care deeply about our work. We are specialists, eager learners, and persistent in our pursuit of quality work. We're patient and committed because building great things takes time.
Long-term focus:ย We're building Whimsical for the long-haul, not a quick exit. We avoid shortcuts and consider every key decision from a 10+ year perspective.
Partnership Mindset:ย Weโve built the company around the idea that everybody who joins us should feel like they are partners in the business. Time is precious and we want Whimsical to be the place where people invest their time rather than sell it. Our equity offers are 100% transparent and above market average. We also pay everyone at the same level the same salary, no matter where they live.

We strive for transparent communication, and for more influence, overview and involvement of flex workers and employees.\n\nThe basis of our codebase is three Ruby applications. We use Clojure for a number of supporting shared services. We increasingly notice that, based on user demand, there is a need to increase the coherence of functionalities, to offer the applications as one, and to place the mobile development on an equal footing with the web applications. Therefore, a slow shift is taking place in which GraphQL APIs are being built to serve React and React Native frontends. However, much of the business logic still remains in the Ruby applications, which are also being extended. We would like to add a Ruby Developer to our (remote) team to spar with and accelerate development.\n\n\n## Your team\n\nAs a Ruby Developer (remote), you are part of a close team and as a team you are responsible for our time registration and roster applications. You will study the domain and the applications, decide together with the team what the most added value is for the product and determine how it will be implemented and when it will be finished. This gives you a lot of freedom to determine what you put your energy into, but it also means that you have to be able to explain why you make a choice and why it will help us. You combine the creation of new features with the implementation of structural technical improvements.\n\nAt Nedap, we find it important that you learn from each other. You aim to achieve the best results as a team. That is why you have constructive discussions with your team about the pros and cons of various technical solutions. You are not afraid to ask questions and not too proud to change your point of view. You do not hesitate to give or receive feedback and you enjoy helping others along the way.\n\n\n## Our offer\n\nYou get a challenging position in a dynamic and international business. A job where you work together with peers using the newest techniques and where you get the full opportunity to develop yourself. At Nedap, you have the freedom to organize and shape your job in such a way that you can really make the difference and live up to your potential.\n\n\n## Required experience and skills\n\nYou recognize yourself in the following:\n* You have at least one year of experience with Ruby and other object-oriented programming languages;\n* You have a strong sense of responsibility;\n* You love diversity and disagreement, and are not afraid to ask questions;\n* Experience with Docker and distributed systems is a plus. \n\nPlease mention the words **STICK MAPLE EXHIBIT** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMTguOTcuMTQuODA=).
At Gower Street Analytics we are transforming the Film industry using predictive analytics and data science. We have contracts with major studios and cinema chains who use our product to inform their planning and releases.\n\nWe are currently hiring a mid-level or senior developer in a UK based remote role with experience in Clojure or functional programming in general. You'll be part of a small dev and data science team with responsibilities ranging from changes to our ETL pipeline to frontend features. \n\nHere's a few things we think set Gower St apart:\n\n* **Flexibility**: If working 3 or 4 days per week instead of full time suits you better, then we can make that happen.\n* **Inclusivity**: Gower St strives to be an inclusive and diverse workplace. Empathy and Integrity are amongst our core values, and we are thoughtful about how we build consensus and come to decisions.\n* **Remote done right**: We've been a remote organisation long before Covid and tend to think we're pretty good at making that work for all of us.\n* **Opportunity**: You'll have plenty of opportunity to work across teams to define new features and deliver them end to end. We're a small company (~ 20 people), and you'll have lots of opportunities to take on new responsibilities and make a lasting impact on the film industry in this job.\n\n### Requirements\n\n* **Eligibility to work in the UK**: This is a UK-based role and candidates must be able to provide documentation to prove that they are eligible to live and work in the UK. \n* **Experience**: You have past experience of taking end-to-end ownership of system-wide features and you can point to examples where you have been personally responsible for delivering technically challenging work with substantive business value. At Gower St, you'll be working in Clojure, Go, Javascript (Node.js) and Python using Docker and Terraform. You don't need concrete experience in all of these languages for the role, but we value candidates who have experience across multiple languages.\n* **Learning and collaboration**: Our team members are active learners who collaborate on problems and welcome questions. We expect you to be able to show examples of how you've worked with others to expand your knowledge of a business problem and build consensus across teams.\n* **Self-directed**: You are comfortable self-managing and working remotely. We prefer if you can point to experience of working in a remote or partially remote role and give us examples that show your initiative and ownership outside of the expectation of your role. \n* **Integrity & Empathy**: You are thoughtful in your interactions and mindful of how you impact other people through the way you communicate and behave. We expect you to be able to give examples of situations where you've consciously made sure to be inclusive.\n\n### Benefits\n\n* **Flexibility**: We are open to you working 3 or 4 days per week and setting your own schedule as long as you're responsive and able to attend important meetings.\n* **Compensation**: You will earn competitive market salaries for on-site roles, even though weโre fully remote.\n* **Holidays & Insurance**: You will get five weeks off per year plus bank holidays as well as private health insurance.\n* **Conference**s: We aim for you to attend one โbigโ and one โsmallโ technical conference each year. \n\nPlease mention the words **HUMAN LENS SOUND** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMTguOTcuMTQuODA=). The platform combines a simple, modern UI with enterprise-grade tools, allowing technology companies to plan and manage their projects effectively, visualize progress across the organization, and define deadlines and milestones based upon data and predictive modeling.\n\nWhat originally started as a Hack Day project has grown into a product that is used by more than 1,500 companies across the globe...and we have big plans to continue our growth. We currently have 35 employees worldwide, an HQ in New York City, and weโre backed by some of the best investors in tech.\n\nClubhouseโs engineering team is a diverse mix of individuals with experience at large and small companies and with a range of technical skill. Weโre growing our Frontend Team and are looking for both mid-level and senior engineers who have experience working across the web stack. While most work will concentrate on building front end features and scaling our existing web systems, you may also work on projects that involve building components that interact with our infrastructure or database.\n\nOur Frontend is written in JavaScript and we use React as our library of choice. Learn more about the tools the team uses to develop some of our products [here.] (https://clubhouse.io/blog/behind-the-new-clubhouse-saas-marketing-site-tech-stack/)\n\n### **What we look for**\n\n* Previous experience providing technical and architectural guidance \n* Previous work experience, ideally as a front-end engineer, (full stack with a front-end focus will also be considered), working on an application with thousands of end-users\n* Experience working in React \n* Experience working with JS build tools like Webpack and Babel\n* Strong prioritization and communication skills and comfort managing priorities that shift\n* Collaboration skills: youโve worked effectively with product and design teams in the past\n\n### **What we offer**\n\n* In addition to a competitive salary and benefits, weโre offering a meaningful equity stake in the company.\n* Youโll be working on a product built specifically for software companies, with the aim of improving the lives of its users. We want you to help guide the product, not just build it for us.\n* You will be part of a small, professional and fast-moving team. Our work day is not broken up by meetings. Our codebase is small and well-tested. We contribute to the open source movement. \n\nPlease mention the words **CROSS GARAGE COMPANY** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMTguOTcuMTQuODA=). We're a small team building a collaborative screenwriting app.\n\nWe are looking for a somewhat experienced Clojure/Script engineer for a **full-time, part-time, or contract position** โ we're flexible. You don't need to be a Clojure expert, but you need to be productive in it and have used it in a non-trivial project before.\n\nArc Studio is a browser-, iOS- and electron-based app for real-time collaborative writing (similar to Google Docs). Experience with React based frameworks such as reagent or reframe is a big plus. Decent familiarity with the browser (HTML, CSS, JS APIs) is required.\n\nThere are interesting problems to work on ranging from an Operational Transform based distributed collaboration engine, git-style document branching & merging, to providing a fluid and intuitive UI/UX across all platforms. \n\nPlease mention the words **SHRUG HAWK LADY** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMTguOTcuMTQuODA=). Whimsical is not like most companies. We are completely independent and believe that a business should care about more than just making money. We areย [philosophy-driven](https://whimsical.com/blog/philosophy). Whimsical is remote-first - we're a small team of 12 people, spread across the globe.\n\nAt Whimsical, we're trying to do two things:\n\n1. Build world-class collaboration tools that are fast and delightful.\n2. Create a company that does good in the world and that is a joy to work at.\n\nWe believe in:\n\n- **Sustainability**:ย We work a calm, 40-hour work week. Compensation is fair and transparent and does not depend on where in the world you live. We are committed to doing our part toย [help the environment](https://whimsical.com/blog/on-the-path-to-sustainability).\n- **Ethics over growth and profit**:ย We don't believe in growth at all costs or that growth should be our chief goal. Growth for us is a sign that we are building things that provide value for people. Growth also means that we can deploy more of our resources toward the things that we value.\n- **Craftsmanship**:ย We care deeply about our work. We are specialists, eager learners, and persistent in our pursuit of quality work. We're patient and committed because building great things takes time.\n- **Long-term focus**:ย We'reย [building Whimsical for the long-haul](https://whimsical.com/blog/why-bootstrap), not a quick exit. As partners in this business, we seek to invest our time instead of selling it. We think about which decisions we will be most proud of 10+ years from now.\n\nSee ourย [Blog](https://whimsical.com/blog)ย for more insight into how Whimsical does business differently.\n\nAnd we are now looking to share the joy of working on Whimsical with aย Senior Clojure Backend Developer, our 13th teammate.\n\n**How we work**\n\nFor product work we use an adapted version ofย [Basecamp's Shape Up](https://basecamp.com/shapeup)ย approach, which for us means:\n\n- We work in cycles of 6 weeks of focused work and 2 weeks of cool-down.\n- Each 6-week work cycle sees one or more "bets" shipped, each having very specific and well-defined requirements.\n- During cool-down, each of us choose what we want to work on, be it bugs, minor features, tech debt, exploring new concepts, and more.\n- Each of us can create an "idea pitch" for an upcoming cycle, and move our ideas along.\n\nAs a back-end developer at Whimsical, you'll be contributing to all things server and infrastructure-based, be it backend code, database optimizations, managing infrastructure, or ensuring that our servers are alive and healthy. And being a small company means that sometimes contributing to Frontend and other areas of the product shouldn't be a deal-breaker to you.\n\nIn addition to Shape Up, we also occasionally roll up our sleeves and do customer support to better understand our users and their needs, regardless of our role within the company.\n\nOur primary mode of operation is asynchronous. We use real-time communication with great care, and only where it makes sense. We use Whimsical, email, Slack, and Zoom for our day-to-day communication.\n\nBut we also believe in spending quality time together, which is why we try to bring everyone from around the world together at least twice a year for what we call "Whimsical Summits". At Summits we focus on getting to know each other better and building bonds that help us communicate better when we're apart. The ongoing global pandemic has prevented us from doing this for the last couple of months, but we hope to go back to this mode of operation as soon as possible.\n\n**Day-to-day work**\n\nAt Whimsical you can expect your day-to-day to include:\n- **Scoping, understanding, and implementing features**:ย You'd work with other teammates to figure out the bestย [way to take a Shape Up pitch from an idea to deployment within the cycle](https://basecamp.com/shapeup/3.1-chapter-09).\n- **Support our customers**:ย We have awesome customers, and supporting them often includes getting some help from the person that implemented the particular feature a customer is having issues with.\n- **Support the team**:ย Review pull requests, refactor code, help with both technical and non-technical issues, and in general help each of us end the day better than when we woke up.\n- **Taking on-call duties in your time zone**:ย We try to take advantage of the fact that we're a small, geographically distributed team by delegating the first-responder duties to the people who are awake at that particular moment.\n\n**Indicators that this could be a good role for you:**\n- You feel that our philosophy resonates with you and you can see it guiding your decisions while at Whimsical.\n- You have 5+ years of backend development experience.\n- You have experienceย [building and maintaining complex systems.](https://whimsical.com/blog/how-we-built-whimsical)\n- You feel comfortable using Clojure and functional programming in general to solve non-trivial problems (Bonus: you've used Clojure in a production environment before).\n- You have previous experience running systems in the cloud (Bonus: specific experience with AWS)\n- You have previous experience with running production workloads in containers (Bonus: specific experience with AWS ECS)\n- You have experience in measuring, analyzing, and fixing performance problems in a distributed environment.\n- You're able to work autonomously and stay self-motivated. (Bonus: previous experience working in a remote team).\n- You are fluent in English.\n\n### Requirements\n- We're currently looking for somebody with sufficient overlap to our existing team, so you'd have to be living in US/Canada/Europe, between Mountain Time/-6 UTC and Central European Time/+1 UTC. (We will still review applicants outside of these time zones in case we have need of developers in other time zones in the future.)\n- A resume or manually entered experience (you can choose your preference).\n- Thoughtful, thorough responses to all the application questions.\n\n### Benefits\n- 100% remote team\n- Equity (depending on experience)\n- Fully paid health insurance*\n- 4 weeks of paid time off per year\n- 4 weeks of paid parental leave\n- 401k matching*\n- The equipment you need to work successfully, including a computer, peripherals, co-working, etc.\n\n* Availability may depend on your location and our current administrative capabilities there.\n \n\nPlease mention the words **DEMAND SHAFT AUNT** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMTguOTcuMTQuODA=).
