๐ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!
When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. When clicking on the button to apply above, you will leave Remote OK and go to the job application page for that company outside this site. Remote OK accepts no liability or responsibility as a consequence of any reliance upon information on there (external sites) or here.

This role is responsible for strategy development, deployments, and team leadership for Fastly’s infrastructure acquisition and capacity planning team. You will be expected to develop, iterate, and execute on Fastly’s global strategy to deliver customer content efficiently and at low costs to Fastly. The team is also responsible for project management of our deployments, so the ability to get your hands dirty with some field work alongside your team is also possible. It is expected that you participate in industry forums such as NANOG, RIPE, APRICOT, LACNOG, GPF, EPF, and APF because you will own key strategic relationships with partner networks.\n\nThe capacity planning team is responsible for producing forecasts and reports on deployment requirements and quality of experience. You must be able to identify and leverage worldwide Internet interconnection trends to Fastly’s strategic advantage. You must be able to align these trends to capacity plans, business plans, and a profit and loss statement. You and your team are expected to deliver cost efficiencies to the bottom line. Uses forecasts and reports to create budgets and other strategic planning documentation.\n\n\n\n\nPRIOR EXPERIENCE\n\n\n* Prior leadership experience in engineering, data center management, interconnection, purchasing, or supply chain.\n\n* 5+ years of direct experience in building out networks.\n\n* 5+ years of direct experience in sourcing, contract negotiation and administration, and/or in project management.\n\n\n\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\n\n\n* Must be a capable leader with experience in running distributed teams.\n\n* Must be a strong networker and communicator, both internally and externally. Network strategy requires as much human networking skill as it does technical chops.\n\n* Must be proficient in finance for managers including P&L and budgets.\n\n* Capable of designing metrics, iterating on measurement, and driving change.\n\n* Comfortable with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, bonus for any of SQL, R, Python.\n\n\n\n\nFastly provides equal employment opportunity without regard to an applicant’s race, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, medical condition, religion, marital status or veteran status. \n\nApplicants with disabilities may be entitled to reasonable accommodation under the terms of the Americans with Disabilities Act and certain state or local laws. \nSUMMARY\n\nCome join our team responsible for building out 50 POPs and 20 Terabits per Second of global network capacity!\n\nFastly is looking for a Director of Hardware Systems Engineering to join our Infrastructure Team. This role is responsible for Fastly’s overall hardware architecture vision, strategy, and roadmap. As Director of Hardware Systems Engineering you will be required to recruit, hire, and retain a top notch, globally distributed team of infrastructure architects and test/lab engineers. Expect that your team will be presented with unreleased hardware for testing, evaluation, and integration into our stack. Know in advance that there will be many unknowns, most often a lack of documentation and drivers, but that is OK because such situations excite you. In this role, you will be expected to latch onto complex problems and drive the team towards success.\n\nYour team of architects are people who are comfortable laying out a datacenter, building up rack elevations, and know the three-phase power equation. They are comfortable picking the right Intel Scalable Xeon Processor to replace the current line of E5-2697v4s in use today. And they will ruthlessly reason about DIMM power density and heat output versus cooling fan velocity. They will aggressively complain about poor driver implementations and then make suggestions on how to improve them. They will debate the merits of using CDWM passive multiplexing systems for short haul 10GE extensions over the aggregation services into 100GE circuits because colored lasers are neat.\n\nYou are responsible for organizing cross functional hardware projects at Fastly because we all know high performing hardware needs deep software integration. You’ll integrate with leaders in our kernel, driver, and caching teams to help ensure efficient use of our hardware. As Director you will bring harmony to the chaos of the hardware supply chain. You’ll work to ensure seamless technical integrations with Fastly’s stack while ensuring upstream availability of goods from manufacturers. You should have a mind for the business details so that you know when you are paying too much for NAND.\n\nRESPONSIBILITIES\n\n\n* Recruits, retains, and manages globally distributed infrastructure architects and hardware systems engineers.\n\n* Develops and iterates on system hardware strategies to optimize for performance and cost.\n\n* Engages with key supply chain partners to understand roadmaps, future product release, and long term strategic benefits to Fastly.\n\n* Works with business functions (finance, legal, and compliance) to ensure objectives on budget, risk, and compliance are adhered to and met.\n\n\n\n\nPRIOR EXPERIENCE\n\n\n* Prior leadership experience in engineering, systems, and/or IT.\n\n* 5+ years of direct experience designing large server environments.\n\n\n\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\n\n\n* B.S. level credentials in Engineering and/or Computer Science.\n\n* Must be a capable leader with experience in running distributed teams.\n\n* Must be a strong communicator, verbally and in documentation.\n\n* Capable of designing metrics, iterating on measurement, and driving change.\n\n* Comfortable with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, bonus for any of SQL, R, Python.\n\n\n\n\nFastly provides equal employment opportunity without regard to an applicant’s race, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, medical condition, religion, marital status or veteran status. \n\nApplicants with disabilities may be entitled to reasonable accommodation under the terms of the Americans with Disabilities Act and certain state or local laws. A reasonable accommodation is a change in the way things are normally done which will ensure an equal employment opportunity without imposing undue hardship on Fastly. Please inform us if you need assistance completing any forms or to otherwise participate in the application process. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

While we operate within the same constraints imposed by network hardware as our competitors, Fastly distinguishes itself by being a software company first and foremost, and we pride ourselves in having always taken a systems perspective to computer networking.\n\nWhether you work on pushing packet performance at the data plane, defining APIs for interacting with network processes at the control plane, or applying decomposition methods to global traffic management is largely immaterial: if you have built a solid understanding of a problem space and are now ready to drive clean slate solutions, you should talk to us. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
