Iโm a writer, researcher, technologist and activist. Sometimes a mix of all four!
I'm Technologist in Residence at Cornell Tech, Cornell University's tech campus in NYC. Iโve been researching and building civic technology since 2005, where I look for creative ways to make the world better through electoral and social campaigns, government, research, and journalism.
In 2016, I led the Digital Mobilization team at Hillary for America, which included the campaignโs voter registration, peer organizing, and SMS technologies and programs. I also served as Director of Civic Technology at Microsoft in New York City. Iโm now based in Berlin, where I work on projects with a creative collective appropriately known as the Bad Idea Factory. I also curate the Civic Tech Field Guide, a crowdsourced collection of over 4,000 tech for public good projects.
I became / earned a Master of Science at the MIT Media Labโs Center for Civic Media. While at the Media Lab, I quantified global media attention to stories like Trayvon Martinโs, designed a peer-to-peer humanitarian aid marketplace, and built an award-winning email product to fight misinformation online. I also hold a BA with high honors from the University of Maryland College Park, where I wrote my undergraduate thesis on the disruption participatory media brought to political journalism.
