Remote Director of Data Engineering Battery Storage

Our team looks for data-driven and fact-based mindsets, engaging and collaborative behaviors, and personal growth-focused professionals. \n\nIn order for the global energy system to make the transition from a carbon-based grid, to a renewable energy grid, large scale energy storage must be introduced into the electricity system to balance intra-hour supply and demand.โฏ Energy storage is the enabler of high penetration variable renewable generation like solar and wind. \n\nWe are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Data Engineering to join our team. The ideal candidate will deeply understand data architecture, cloud infrastructure and the ability to design and implement scalable, secure, and reliable data solutions.\n\n \n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\n\n* Lead the design, development, and implementation of data infrastructure solutions in multiple public Cloud platforms and services (Azure, AWS, and GCP) using industry standards and best practices\n\n* Translate business needs into data models supporting long-term solutions using SQL and non-SQL databases on cloud-based platforms.\n\n* Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models and corresponding metadata using best practices to ensure high data quality and access.\n\n* Identify data gaps and enforce strong practices to close any data quality issues in a timely manner; establish a single version of truth for reference data that benefits consumers.\n\n* Contribute to and implement a strategy for data management in private and public clouds, leveraging cloud-native tools and techniques.\n\n* Establish and keep up with Data Non-Functional Requirements (NFR) to ensure that metadata, data mappings, data lineage, and other related items meet the policy requirements for being complete, accurate, and consistent.\n\n* Manage data as a strategic asset and operationalize data governance, data quality, data integrity, and controls across the organization.\n\n* Introduce and propagate modern engineering practices around data, including reusable/configurable data quality and data access control frameworks.\n\n* Drive consistency, efficiency, and cost benefits through establishing and continuously improving data management practices and standards.\n\n* Stay up to date on the latest trends and technologies in data and cloud infrastructure\n\n\n\n\n \n\nSkills & Qualifications:\n\n\n* A master's or bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field\n\n* 10+ years of experience in data architecture and cloud infrastructure\n\n* 8+ years of experience with reference data management, business information architecture, analytics, business process re-engineering, and Product Management\n\n* 7+ of experience demonstrating expert-level knowledge of cloud architecture patterns (microservices, event-driven, serverless, API first and API gateways, service mesh, CQRS, stateless design)\n\n* 5+ years of data mapping and data lineage (create or analyze)\n\n* 3+ years of technical leadership in a data and technical environment, including Data Engineering, Data modeling, Metadata management, etc.\n\n* Strong SQL and Python knowledge\n\n* Strong knowledge of business operational processes, data, and technology platforms\n\n* Ability to prioritize deliverables and manage multiple complex work streams simultaneously\n\n* Experience with data warehousing, data lakes, and data pipelines\n\n* Fundamental knowledge of database systems (relational and object stores), including scaling, sharing, and replication\n\n* Deep understanding of monitoring and logging in Cloud environments, including retention and cost optimization strategies\n\n* Ability to create high-quality documentation about data architectural decisions, design rationale, and implementation guidelines.\n\n* Secure Development Lifecycle and Agile Development Methodology using DevSecOps and CI/CD concepts and practices\n\n* Infrastructure as code and Continuous integration and delivery/deployment\n\n* Demonstrated ability to work well in a cross-functional environment with both technical and non-technical team members.\n\n* Understanding of energy markets a plus\n\n* Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products โ Word, Excel, Power Point\n\n* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills\n\n\n\n\n \n\nCompensation, Location, and Benefits\n\nHighly competitive total compensation from one of North Americaโs leading energy storage developers, owners and operators. Flexible, work from home or hybrid work from Plus Powerโs offices in San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Seattle, and Palm Beach.\n\nThe expected salary range* for this position begins at $195,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographic labor market, and other factors consistent with applicable law.
