Remote Associate Director for Israel Education

\nThe Center for Jewish and Israel Education at Hillel International is a team dedicated to supporting Jewish college students on a pathway toward Jewish adulthood. We envision students as ready to make life choices informed by Jewish values, confident in crafting Jewish experiences for themselves & their peers, and eager to find their next steps in Jewish life. We support, train, and provide resources for campus professionals to guide their students along that journey while also providing direct-to-student Jewish learning and leadership programming. \n\nWe envision a world in which Hillel is the central meeting point for inspired learning about and lasting engagement with Israel. In line with the best practices of education and the deepest wisdom of Jewish thought, we hold ourselves to an approach that centers authentic inquiry, multivocality, and personal reflection. When we do this well, we embody an approach to Israel education that resonates with emerging adult learners and welcomes every student to meaningfully explore their relationship to Israel. \n\nThe Center for Jewish and Israel Education (CJIE) has been pioneering this work across a suite of programming and more broadly influencing the ways Israel education manifests in the Hillel movement. \n\nA core guiding principle of our work has been the Inquiry Centered Model for Israel Education. We will continue to innovate around the field of Israel Education, responding to the changing needs of campuses, professionals, and students.\n\nThe Israel Education work of the Center for Jewish and Israel Education has included: Our Masterclass: Israel (MCI) is designed to support Hillel educators toward great pedagogical and content knowledge is in its fifth cohort and has had a deep impact on the ways Israel education is deployed on campus. Following the development of MCI, we launched Kol Yisrael, a series of curricula meant to broaden the repertoire of Israel learning opportunities led by campus professionals for students. The Israel Insight Fellowship, a unique travel experience for select student leaders, has created new ways for those leaders to engage with the essential questions that Israel poses for contemporary students. Masterclass Israel Xperience (MCIX) innovated a new model of Israel educational travel in partnership with JAFI: Makom focused on exploring the tribes of Israel.  In response to the events of October 7 and the war that followed, the CJIE has pioneered immersive educational travel, the Tzofim and Sipurim trips, for Hillel professionals, supporting their personal and professional exploration of Israel, as well as the development of several curricula to support the efforts of campus educators to help students learn and process the new reality. \n\nThe Associate Director of Israel Education will support this body of work to continue the growth and impact of these various programs while also piloting and building new learning opportunities.\nWhat Youโ€™ll Do\n\nThe CJIE Associate Director of Israel Education will co-develop and oversee a series of interventions designed to increase nuanced and engaging educational programming for Hillel professionals. These opportunities will happen through multiple modalities including travel to Israel, cohort learning, in-person intensive gatherings, and online training seminars. \n\nThe Associate Director for Israel Education will\n\n\n* Help build and support a robust Israel educational platform for Hillel professionals\n\n* Co-develop curriculum, cohorts, seminars, and travel opportunities that support the growth of Hillel professionals including Israel content knowledge, facilitation, teaching skills, and other competencies to be determined\n\n* Collaborate with colleagues focused on Israel education, travel, and advocacy within the Schusterman International Center, in the field and more broadly in this space\n\n* Serve as an educational resource and consultant to campus professionals building Israel educational efforts\n\n* Alongside CJIE team and consultant facilitator, participate in the development and implementation of a strategic learning process including a broad range of Hillel professionals and academic advisors.\n\n\n\n\nSome examples of programming that the Associate Director might develop include\n\n\n* Fellowships are designed to build facilitation skills for field professionals that culminate in a trip to Israel for approximately 20 mid- to high-level field professionals. This role also works closely with the partnering companies to understand their English language objectives and makes necessary adjustments to the curriculum and instructional approach.\n\n\n\nRole & Responsibilities\n* Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\n\n\nInstruction & Collaboration: \n* Provide high-quality ESL instruction for NNS as part of the CLCโ€™s Company English program\n* Develop and deliver lessons for a multi-level class using selected texts and supplemental materials\n* Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so as to ensure that learners in attendance meet and exceed learning targets \n* Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages learners to take responsibility and incorporates growth-oriented instructional strategies \n* Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of the learner \n* Facilitate classroom group discussion to empower students to analyze situations and draw conclusions\n* Design scaffolded lesson plans and develop curriculum materials focused on basic language skills using the communicative approach \n* Motivate and make learning accessible as well as stimulating and while promoting an interactive classroom with a heavy emphasis on student participation \n* Develop lessons appropriate to method of delivery: in-person, remote, or hybrid \n* Integrate digital literacy, basic math concepts, reading skills, and career pathways into English language instruction and practice as needed \n* Maintain clear records of grades, assessments, and lesson materials using WRM record keeping tools and processes\n* Create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible, engaging, and active \n* Address all language skills in the classroom โ€“ speaking, listening, reading, and writing with an emphasis placed on literacy and life skills\n* Maintain a positive relationship with company partners with the aim to retain strong partners for ongoing collaboration\n* Seek ongoing feedback from partner companies to ensure course delivery aligns with company objectives for employees in ESL classes\n* Provide progress reports to partner companies at intervals specified in partnership agreements\n* Facilitate classroom celebrations and milestones such as end of cycle parties when appropriate\n* Collaborate with team members in the Connect Language Center and other WRM departments to ensure effective and efficient programming and organizational processes\n* When appropriate, collaborate with WRM volunteer coordinators to provide meaningful tasks for volunteers to engage with students or classroom needs\n* Willingness to teach ESL classes at the Connect Language Center or other location when assigned by supervisor and as schedule permits\n* Complete a minimum of fifteen hours of professional development each fiscal year \n* Attend department and staff meetings as determined by supervisor\n* Participate in CLC and WRM events as determined by supervisor \n\n\nAssessment & Record Keeping: \n* Conduct student assessments and record attendance \n* Follow communication procedures related to student progress and absences with the partner companyโ€™s supervisor \n* Complete monthly reports (i.e., attendance, volunteer hours, and lessons plans) as scheduled to ensure program compliance \n* Maintain clear records of grades, assessments, and lesson materials\n* Collect student work samples at regular intervals \n* Assist in printing of student course completion certificates and documentation \n* Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating the learners progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition\n* Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor\n\n\n\nKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities\n* Excellent interpersonal skills and cross-cultural skills, including ability to communicate and build lasting relationships and partnerships with students, community partners, volunteers, and staff \n* Self-starter who takes initiative and can plan and achieve goals with minimal supervision \n* Must be organized with attention to detail \n* Availability to work on a variable schedule;
