Description
Zero44 is a B2B SaaS start-up that is building digital tools for the shipping industry to reduce their carbon footprint and help the industry get to carbon zero by 2050. After a successful first year, huge interest from across the industry, and new investment, we are looking to expand our team and range of product features. If you share our passion for saving the planet and helping a fascinating, centuries-old industry to transition to carbon zero by building excellent digital tools, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
In this role you'll be at the point where our product people and technical team come together to deliver a quality end result. It will be your responsibility to collaboratively drive the entire product development flow, from design & development to deployments & maintenance.
We are still at a very early stage, so much of the tech stack is rapidly changing. We are looking for someone who considers this an opportunity to make an impact.

Your mission
In this role you'll be at the point where our product people and technical team come together to deliver a quality end result. It will be your responsibility to collaboratively drive the entire product development flow, from design & development to deployments & maintenance. We are still at a very early stage, so much of the tech stack is rapidly changing. We are looking for someone who considers this an opportunity to make an impact.
Your profile
As our backend engineer you will build digital products and applications from the ground up.
You've shipped large, web-based applications with many components and data structures
You have proven ability to design complex, scalable data structures
You are comfortable writing complex queries in relational databases
You have experience integrating complex 3rd party APIs
You have a keen eye in detecting bottlenecks in existing data structures and strive to improve them
You're comfortable making technical decisions in the fast-paced, ever-changing environment of a start-up company

You can manage yourself but you also work well with others
You understand the importance of keeping things simple and flexible

About you
You have a background in web development (preferably Ruby on Rails or equivalent)
You are interested in performance related problems and designing resilient systems
You want to become highly proficient in relational and non relational data stores
You understand the core features of cloud providers (preferably with an understanding of how to define infrastructure as code with a tool such as Terraform)

Troubleshoot issues across the whole stack; ingress, application, network, databases etc
Manage infrastructure using Terraform and Kubernetes
Create concise postmortems in the event of an outage
Write and maintain run-books for other engineers to leverage
Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, and dashboarding for applications you support
Collaborate with other engineers to make sound infrastructure decisions, improve workflow, and deploy applications ready for production
Participate in an on-call rotation (great ratio of time on call vs off call)

SaneBox is looking for a Remote Full Stack Ruby on Rails Software Engineer to join our mature and profitable company. We need a talented and motivated individual who isn't afraid of tackling and delivering large projects.
Things you will do at SaneBox:
Create amazing and well tested new functionality in a large rails app.
Help our designers create delightful UIs in AngularJS and React.
Tune memory and CPU performance to get the most out of app servers.
Write unit tests, functional tests, and integration tests.
Have strong opinions on how SaneBox can best work for our customers.
Build iOS & Android apps
Once you are trained on the systems, everyone on the engineering team takes a shift answering escalated support tickets. Happily, having development engineers interact with customers means resolutions to support issues get automated pretty quickly. And this shift eliminates everyone’s desire to break stuff.

MUST Reside somewhere in UTC-3 to UTC-8 (Basically anywhere in the Americas).
MUST have significant professional experience with:
Ruby & Rails
JavaScript (preferably Angular or React frameworks)
SQL
MUST have knowledge of best-practices and tools used in software development.
MUST be fluent in ENGLISH
MUST be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Our release cycle is very short and your first work will be live on our production site within days.
Knowledge of Email & IMAP (RFCs 5322 & 3501) is a plus.
Knowledge of iOS or Android native app development is a plus.
