VPD is hiring a remote full-stack engineer to help develop and implement our groundbreaking cloud solution, contributing across all aspects of our app, its data, architecture and deployment.
We’re a well-funded scaleup (no VC money) with big plans to revolutionise legal pricing: our software aims to bring an end to law firms overcharging clients, arbitrary pricing, and other bad practices that have existed for years.
Our two directors are recognised world authorities in this domain, we are recognised suppliers to Thomson Reuters and Aderant Legal Software. We've successfully onboarded one of the world's largest legal teams and we're now busy preparing to deploy to some of the top 100 law firms in the UK and abroad.
Our app is powered by React, with Apollo Client for its GraphQL queries and mutations. It leverages Ant Design as the UI framework, upon which we build a mixture of UI components; some simple, some complex.
On the back-end, we're using PostgreSQL as our RDS, TypeORM as our ORM, TypeGraphQL to define the API schema, and Apollo Server to deliver the GraphQL.
Both our front and back ends are coded in TypeScript. We believe in end-to-end testing and have therefore used Playwright to handle an automated E2E test script which runs before deployments.
The work is varied, challenging, and we place equal emphasis on front and back-end; we need to deliver scheduled features, fix bugs, and respond to the needs of newly onboarded firms.

SessionLab is the leading platform for workshop facilitation and process design. Our mission is to empower people to create change. We do that by building technology that enables better facilitation. More than 100.000 professionals are using our Software-as-a-Service product to design and deliver meaningful workshops.
We are looking for a senior full-stack developer with frontend-focused experience to help us scale our platform and deliver more value to our customers.
You’ll be our fourth developer, working closely with our Tech Lead and other developers, as well as our designer and product manager. You’ll build new and exciting features, improve platform security and maintain the stability of our infrastructure. You will have a chance to work on and influence our whole stack, with an initial focus on the front end.
We are a bootstrapped and profitable software business, headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, and working across Europe with a fully remote 10-person team (team members currently in Sweden, Hungary, Croatia, UK, Austria, Portugal, and Italy). Therefore, we are looking for somebody who is self-motivated, independent, and comfortable working in a remote-first environment.
What we are looking for
You have deep React knowledge and experience.
You excel at CSS and enjoy developing Design Systems.
You have experience with building REST APIs (ours is built on Rails).
You are comfortable building full-stack features from scratch.
You are comfortable working in a small startup where cross-discipline work is encouraged.
You are good at problem-solving critical production issues in a timely manner.
You seek to take on responsibilities and take ownership of the work you do.
You thrive working independently, but also enjoy collaborating with people from different disciplines and you always try to look at the big picture.
Experience working remotely.
You are based within UTC-8 and UTC+3 and have a few work hours overlap with 8 am to 3 pm UTC
Advantages (not a must but a big plus)
Experience with technologies in our stack (Mobx, Rails, Webpack, PostgreSQL, Pusher).
Experience with UX/UI design and prototyping.
Experience in working on real-time sync in collaborative applications.
Experience in scaling web applications and optimizing frontend code.
Experience with workflow tools (Github Actions, Sentry, Mixpanel, Jira).
Experience with deploying production grade systems on Amazon Web Services (EC2, CloudFront, S3).
Contribution to open source projects.
Experience with maintaining WordPress.
What will I be doing?
To give you an honest perspective of where we are now: we have a stable application and infrastructure with a relatively up-to-date codebase and an extensive customer-driven roadmap of new features and improvements we want to bring to the app.
This is where you come into the picture: we need somebody who can work full-time on bringing new features and improvements to the app.
In more practical terms:
Building new features that have frontend or full-stack requirements.
Work with our designer to define and maintain a consistent Design System.
Debugging production-related issues.
Improve front-end performance.
Working with our designer to provide technical input on new designs.
Working with the Tech Lead and the other developers to improve the developer experience.
Scaling the infrastructure.

Compensation
The compensation range for this role is between €70,000 to €95,000 annually on B2B contract or matching gross salary as an employee (official employment status only available in certain countries). The actual compensation offered to a successful candidate will be based on relative experience and skills.
The compensation includes paid holiday days according to your country of residence (but a minimum of 20 days) plus your local holidays as paid time off, and additional remote working stipend or home office setup support.

About the Job
As an engineer at Passage you’ll join our small team of two other developers in building one of the most feature rich and user friendly event ticketing platforms in the industry. Your day-to-day may consist of fixing bugs, updating user interfaces and performance tuning PostgreSQL database calls. However, you’ll probably spend most of your time building exciting new features. We pride ourselves on how quickly we’re able to ship awesome new functionality for our clients. We try to do things “The Rails Way.” While we got sucked into the React world several years back, these days we prefer to render HTML on the server. Any front-end interaction we need comes from StimulusJS, StimulusReflex, and CableReady via ActionCable. We're also planing on utilizing Hotwire where applicable. About You
We’re looking for someone who not only loves software development, but is particularly passionate about Ruby on Rails. This is most definitely a “full stack” position and you should be comfortable with everything from the PaaS providers, to the database to CSS, to writing tests.
You prefer to work smarter rather than harder. Self management is a must-have trait at Passage. You’ll have the full support of our entire team and all the tools you need to be successful, but no one is going to look over your shoulder or hold your hand through every project. We value results, not whether you’re at your desk from 9-5 with your eyes glued to your computer. You might have a CS degree and that is great, but that isn’t necessarily an edge over someone without. We care about the work you do and how you do it.
Our engineering team is remote first. We have office space in Detroit that you’re welcome to use if you live in the area, but even folks in the office operate as if they were remote. You should be very comfortable communicating and working via tools like Asana, Slack and Github. While we are fully remote and we try to operate as asynchronously as possible, we require at least 4 hours overlap of your workday with 9am - 5pm US Eastern Time.
