This is the No. 2 role in the department, reporting up to the NFL Senior Managing Editor. The Managing Editor and the Senior Managing Editor share comprehensive editorial oversight of NFL coverage, using data analytics to optimize performance. They also partner with stakeholders across the editorial organization and business teams on a range of initiatives. \n\n\nThis role will be remote for candidates located in the United States or Canada only.\n\n\n\nResponsibilities\n* Manage a staff of reporters with an emphasis on the delivery of news and distinct team analysis.\n* Assist with big-picture, conceptual vision for the vertical, including long-term direction; generating and planning story ideas; editorial platforms; expansion opportunities.\n* Provide process and priorities to balance content assignments ranging from short-form and breaking news to daily coverage to longform projects.\n* Work to bring a distinctive, compelling, and authentic voice to all digital media products.\n* Maintain an understanding and proficiency of subscription and engagement metrics.\n* Maintain proficiency and knowledge for SEO (best practices available).\n* Develop comprehensive multimedia coverage and contacts that include text and audio.\n* Coordinate staffing assignments, editorial resources and process.\n* Maintain an updated and accurate forward-looking editorial budget.\n* Collaborate with staff on story ideas, and with design on best execution for stories with a clear visual element.\n* Edit and publish stories via WordPress.\n* Manage the verticalโs financial budget, including projecting month-to-month expenditures and managing travel.\n\n\n\nRequirements\n* 8+ years of experience in digital sports journalism, with experience at a management level.\n* Advanced ability to generate story ideas that result in solid sub-growth and engagement.\n* Works well with writers on strengthening ideas; strong sense of how to take a single idea and develop it into a broader package.\n* Advanced understanding of the following editing tasks: copy editing, story structure, recognizing problematic sentences, style guidelines.\n* Ability to add context to stories, edit in the writer's voice, ensure fairness, provide story structure.\n* Expert ability to mentor writers and more inexperienced editors.\n* High-end knowledge of the NFL.\n* This is a remote-based position is based in the United States or Canada.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe annual base salary range for this role is $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 USD.
