\nThe Role \n\nThe Assistant General Counsel - Labor will oversee the company's labor law policies and strategies across all of the Companyโ€™s markets, as well as select employment law matters. This role demands extensive expertise in labor law, with a focus on proactive legal strategies and employee relations. Although prior cannabis industry experience is not required, the ideal candidate must be passionate about their personal impact in this new and fast paced industry.   \n\nAs Assistant General Counsel โ€“ Labor, you will play a critical role advising senior management and the People team on labor law compliance, employee relations, collective bargaining and other labor-related issues.  You should possess a proactive approach to counseling and training on employee engagement and labor issues as well as relevant experience creating and implementing labor and employee relations strategies. Partnering with the Green Thumb People Team, Legal Team, and our external labor counsel, you will be responsible for furthering our growth objectives while navigating business and legal risks through problem-solving.   \n\nThis role can be based in our Chicago, Illinois headquarters or can be performed remotely with occasional travel to the headquarters.  In either case, the role could require travel up to 50% of your time to visit our operations in 14 or more states. \n\nResponsibilities \n\n\nProvide expert legal counsel and guidance on a wide range of labor and employment matters, including but not limited to union relations, collective bargaining wage and hour compliance, discrimination and harassment claims and employee benefits. \n\nDevelop and implement the Companyโ€™s labor and employment relationship strategies in collaboration with the People team and senior management.  Collaborate extensively with Finance and Communications teams, as well as other departments throughout the organization, for example, in developing cost models, and proactive and reactive communications. \n\nDraft, review and negotiate agreements with unions including collective bargaining agreements, labor peace agreements, and similar matters.  \n\nServe as primary advisor on labor relations and employee relations, including FLMA, ADA, OSHA compliance and similar matters, to senior management and the People team. \n\nOversee legal aspects of, and assist in the development of, training and learning programs for the People team, as well as exempt and non-exempt employees, with respect to labor law compliance, employee relations best practices and related matters.   \n\nRepresent the Company in administrative proceedings, arbitrations and other dispute resolution forums, advocating for the Companyโ€™s interests while maintaining positive labor relations. \n\nCollaborate and manage relationships with external labor organizations, outside counsel, consultants and industry associations as needed to support the Companyโ€™s labor and employment objectives.  \n\nSupport internal investigations and external agency responses (non-NLRB matters). \n\nHandle and document charges or petitions filed under the National Labor Relations Act or the Companyโ€™s responses thereto. \n\nSupport the M&A and integration teams with respect to labor and employment matters.  \n\nManage the labor team within the Legal Department.  \n\nSupport and lead other initiatives/projects such as policy modification, workforce trends, best practices, etc. as needed. \n\nTravel, as needed, to support business needs. \n\n\n\n\nRequirements \n\n\nJuris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school \n\nMust be admitted to a state bar and in good standing \n\n10+ years of labor law expertise within a law firm or in-house \n\nStrong academic credentials and solid work ethic \n\nStellar analytical skills and strong verbal and written communication skills \n\nBroad background providing solid and collaborative advice and counsel to People function and operating business managers in labor-related matters \n\nBroad background in handling traditional labor law matters, including collective bargaining negotiations, grievance handling, arbitrations, and proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board \n\nUp-to-date knowledge of labor issues and case law and ability to quickly develop knowledge and understanding of such laws and issues particularly as they relate to the cannabis industry \n\nTeam player who is proactive, a self-starter, and ready to roll up their sleeves and dig into the work \n\nStrategic, detail oriented and self-motivated to provide high quality and timely work product in a fast-paced, complex, and highly regulated environment, with demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently as the circumstances require \n\nAbility to maintain professional demeanor and focus on objectives in confrontational negotiations, with excellent communication and negotiation skills that includes the ability to effectively articulate legal concepts and advocate for the Companyโ€™s interests in various forums \n\nCommitment to the highest ethical and professional standards; \nThe Regional People Director will report into the VP, Field HR and will support CLEARโ€™s field operations within an assigned division. You are the primary People Team leader for a division and will partner broadly across the organization to ensure cohesive and functional people practices and strategies for optimal support of operational teams. \nOverview\n\nLightship is a clinical trials service provider leading in increasing access and choice in taking part in research to improve equity for all. We design and conduct studies in partnership with biopharmaceutical companies to accelerate bringing new therapies to market. Our approach is to engage people where they are and support them across their journey in a clinical trial, from first contact to study completion. By transforming the way, we conduct clinical research, we can decrease study timelines and reduce dropouts to accelerate development of better therapies.\n\nA successful candidate will possess a willingness and desire to work independently without significant supervision. Lightship expects each individual to anchor their availability in the standard operating hours for their geographic location, however, true to our values of inclusion and flexibility, this role, along with all others at Lightship, may be asked to flex work hours to accommodate US West Coast, US East Coast, and UK-based time zones, based on business need. Through convening, policy analysis, and consumer awareness building, the Coalition is pursuing fast, fair action to accelerate the development of zero-emission homes and buildings that will help California cut one of its largest sources of climate pollution while creating safe, healthy, and affordable communities.\n\nBurning fossil fuels for heating and cooking poses a serious threat to our health and the planet โ€” making buildings and homes the largest source of climate pollution in the world. Here in California, buildings are second only to transportation as the leading cause of climate change, yet weโ€™ve had no clear plan to address these emissions. Until now.\n\nThrough the development of A Roadmap to Decarbonize Californiaโ€™s Buildings, the Coalition lays out an ambitious, inspiring, and actionable plan for the state to eliminate building emissions in the Golden State. The Coalition is coordinating the implementation of the Roadmap by working with policymakers, the building industry,  and consumers to dispatch zero-emission lifestyle solutions โ€” eliminating the need for fossil fuels and helping the state to slash climate pollution. \n\nMoving Californiaโ€™s homes and buildings off of fossil fuels will improve public health, cut climate pollution, deliver cleaner air, alleviate rising housing prices and monthly energy bills, all while creating a tremendous export opportunity for the state. To get there, we are activating strong leadership from communities, manufacturing and government, in California and beyond.\n\nPOSITION SUMMARY \n\nAs the California Regulatory and Policy Senior Associate, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the Coalition's strategic plan for California. Your primary responsibilities include serving as a legal, regulatory, and policy resource for BDC campaigns, fostering regulatory education and communication with regulators, and ensuring seamless integration of campaigns with broader BDC priorities.
