We believe in working with a high degree of autonomy while supporting the organization's priorities.\nNwaku\n\nWe are building Waku as a public good infrastructure. Waku is the messaging layer of Web3.\n\nIt is a decentralized, censorship-resistant, privacy-preserving communication network that enables anyone to send and receive messages without worrying about surveillance or de-platforming.\n\nWe are developing 3 open source implementations of Waku: nwaku, go-waku and js-waku.\n\nNwaku is the reference implementation of Waku, in which protocols are first implemented. Nwaku is used as a service node to operate the Waku Relay network, the backbone of the Waku network.\n\nOur main repo is https://github.com/waku-org/nwaku/.\n\nWe are looking for software engineers that are passionate about Ethereum, decentralization and software excellence, and who would relish the opportunity to create a first-class decentralized messaging network and bring these new capabilities to the Web3 ecosystem!\n\nKey responsibilities\n\n\nImplement and develop open protocols for secure messaging.\n\nCreate and maintain a sustainable and fault-tolerant distributed system.\n\nWrite and maintain Nim code.\n\nUnderstand and optimize the core functionality of complex software systems.\n\nProvide feedback on overall design decisions, and participate in code reviews\n\nUse libp2p to build application-level protocols.\n\nBuild incentivized, distributed systems.\n\nInterpret and implement solutions based on academic research.\n\nSupport platforms and operators using nwaku software.\n\n\n\n\nYou ideally will have\n\n\nA passion for blockchain technology, privacy-preserving technology and decentralization.\n\nAt least 4 years of software engineering experience.\n\nExperience with low-level/strongly typed languages (C/C++/Go/Rust or Java/C#).\n\nEmbedded systems development experience.\n\nExperience building networking-heavy applications and p2p networking specifically.\n\nFamiliarity with message propagation in loosely connected networks.\n\nFamiliar with p2p building blocks such as gossiping, routing and discovery (DHTs), and Nat traversal.\n\n\n\n\nBonus points if you have\n\n\nContributed to a blockchain-related, open-source project.\n\nEmbedded in the Ethereum community.\n\nExperience with Nim.\n\nExperience with C bindings and FFIs.\n\nExperience with off-the-shelf networking stacks such as libp2p / devp2p.\n\n\n\n\n[Donโt worry if you donโt meet all of these criteria, weโd still love to hear from you anyway if you think youโd be a great fit for this role.
