Remote Principal Product Designer

As a Principal Product Designer, you will lead the product design function at LumiQ where youโll play a key role in shaping the next generation of our learning platform and delivering experiences that delight thousands of users every day.\n\n\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n* Own the end-to-end design lifecycle โ research, IA, flows, prototyping, visual design, and handoff.\n* Lead the evolution of LumiQโs design system in Figma, including components, variables, tokens, and Storybook integration.\n* Elevate product usability across mobile and web, applying modern interaction design and mobile-first principles.\n* Craft visually stunning, storytelling-driven interfaces, with strong mastery of typography, iconography, layout, and motion.\n* Leverage AI toolsets (including custom GPT workflows) to accelerate exploration, generate concepts, and enhance creativity.\n* Build high-fidelity prototypes to clearly communicate ideas to stakeholders and engineers.\n* Mentor and collaborate with other product and visual designers, helping elevate the design craft and uplevel the broader design team.\n* Collaborate closely with our visual design and marketing teams to ensure brand consistency and elevate the quality of our productโs visual expression.\n* Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, marketing team, content team, and leadership to ensure cohesive and user-centered experiences.\n* Champion design quality and thinking across the organization, raising the bar for craft and supporting the growth of our design practice.\n* Stay current on design trends, tools, and emerging technologies, bringing fresh thinking to LumiQโs product evolution.\n\n\n\nQualifications:\n* 7+ years of product design experience with a portfolio showcasing real web and mobile product work.\n* Advanced expertise in Figma, with hands-on experience building scalable design systems, variables, and Storybook alignment.\n* Deep knowledge of information architecture, interaction design, and responsive design.\n* Strong visual design and motion design craft.\n* Experience using AI tooling (e.g., custom GPTs, image generation, workflow automation) to enhance design processes.\n* Strong research skills, with experience conducting interviews, usability tests, and synthesizing insights.\n* Ability to operate in lean, fast-paced, ambiguous environments and make informed decisions quickly.\n* Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and articulate rationale clearly.\n* Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple projects simultaneously.\n\nBonus Points: \n* Experience in edtech, audio products, or content-rich digital platforms.\n* Familiarity with analytics, experimentation, or product metrics.\n* Motion/animation prototyping skills (After Effects, Rive, Protopie, etc.).\n* Experience in early stage startup or scale-up environments.\n* Experience working as a sole designer, with the confidence and autonomy to own design decisions end-to-end.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe expected base salary for this position is: CAD $150,000 - $170,000. Salary is based on a number of factors including market conditions, location and may vary depending on job-related skills and experience.\n\n\nIf you think your experience is most of the way there weโd still love to meet you! \n\n\nPlease note this is a flexible hybrid role based out of Toronto, Canada. Employees will be expected to be able to commute to the office 1-2 times a week.
