\nInsider is hiring a paid editorial fellow to join the Business Contributors and Freelance team in January 2023. The six-month reporting/editing fellowship is an entirely remote position based in the United States with flexibility on work location. We are also open to hybrid work from one of our offices in the U.S., including our headquarters in New York City.\n\nBusiness Insiderโs Contributors and Freelance desk focuses on personalizing and humanizing Insiderโs business coverage. The fellow will have the opportunity to source and interview people with interesting and unique success and/or business stories and then produce first-person personal essays and as-told-to pieces. This fellowship is a great opportunity for early-career journalists looking to learn and experiment with character-driven storytelling formats.\n\nThe business contributors fellow will report to Jennifer Eum and should have a demonstrated interest in business, success, leadership, travel, and entrepreneurship stories, along with great interviewing skills and endless curiosity about peopleโs lives, careers, and stories. The ideal candidate consumes news on many different platforms (TikTok, podcasts, Instagram, Twitter, newsletters, etc.), has a strong understanding of trending news and pop culture, and can identify the sources and stories that appeal to a broad audience.\n\nWeโre looking for someone who has:\n\n\nAn eye for spotting trends on social media platforms, newsletters, podcasts, magazines, and other digital news sites, and the initiative to pitch original stories on those topics around what Business Insiderโs audience will find interesting\n\nExperience cutting through jargon, writing, and storytelling in a professional capacity\n\nTime-management skills, an ability to problem-solve independently, and a willingness to learn and incorporate feedback\n\nExperience with writing headlines, social copy, inputting stories in a CMS, and incorporating photo/visual information\n\n\n\n\n \n\nAll our editorial fellows should have:\n\n\nA passion for digital storytelling and familiarity with digital and social media\n\nExperience reporting and writing (school publications are great!)\n\nAbility to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team\n\nProofreading and copyediting skills\n\n\n\n\nThe Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers.\n\nPlease note: Fellows are paid $20 an hour and are expected to work 40 hours per week. Fellows will also be eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on their 91st day of employment.
