\nAs a member of the Visuals team, the Visuals Assistant Producer will be primarily focused on editing and producing content from Ukraine. This producer will primarily work on editing and producing photography. As well as assigning photographers in the field for all NPR platforms.\n\nThis producer may also work on short form video content from NPR journalists in Ukraine and around the world. The position will require the ability to think both quickly and expansively about the news. \n\nThis is a grant-funded position and ends Dec. 31, 2024.\n\nNPR Visuals is focused on creating and distributing content that reflects and serves America. We work with teams across NPR, our member stations, and content partners to tell stories and engage audiences on NPR.org, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and other visual platforms.\n\nThis is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA.\n\nRESPONSIBILITIES\n\n\n* Produce, shoot or edit photography and video for visual platforms. \n\n* Commission original photography and illustrations for NPR with photographers and illustrators.\n\n* Innovate, execute, assess and iterate daily news photo stories and projects for all platforms.\n\n* Edit, research, license images for all NPR platforms including NPR.org, Instagram, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and emerging platforms.\n\n* Work with photographers, illustrators, agencies and vendors to process contracts and invoices from assignments. \n\n* Handle photo imaging, captions and credits for stories you edit.\n\n* Attend meetings as needed with the Visuals team, desks, podcasts and shows.\n\n* Coordinate with member station journalists as needed in order to acquire, publish and distribute visual assets for NPR and other public media platforms.\n\n* Research, pitch, write and produce stories for NPRโs visuals blog, The Picture Show.\n\n* Uphold the highest standards for NPRโs visual journalism and storytelling.\n\n* Stay up to date with NPR broadcasts, podcasts, reporters, news wires, competition and internal communications to make sure our visual storytelling is optimized and smart.\n\n* Additional duties as assigned by your manager.\n\n\n\n\nThe above duties and responsibilities are not an exhaustive list of required responsibilities, duties and skills. Other duties may be assigned, and this job description can be modified at any time.\n\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\n\n\n* Experience working on International content.\n\n\n\n\nEDUCATION REQUIREMENT\n\n\n* Bachelorโs degree from a four-year college or university with a specialization in film, video, media production, photography or journalism preferred.\n\n\n\n\nWORK LOCATION\n\n\n* Remote Permitted: This is a remote permitted role. This role is based out of our Washington, DC office but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves.\n\n\n\n\nREQUIRED SKILLS\n\n\n* Photographic storytelling and/or video production experience, preferably with a major network or newsroom, studio or creative agency.\n\n* Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud programs related to video and photo design. (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere)\n\n* Ability to handle multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent time frames and changing priorities/conditions.\n\n* Demonstrated commitment to increasing audience diversity.\n\n* Be well versed in copyright and ethical journalism practices\n\n* Excellent communication and writing skills.\n\n* Have a strong interest in current events\n\n* Ability to work independently and with members of a cooperative team.\n\n\n\n\nJOB TYPE\n\n\n* This is a temporary (6-month) full time position.\n\n\n\n\nCOMPENSATION\n\nHourly Rate: The U.S. based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $37.26 per hour. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum hourly rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.\n\nBenefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents.
