America's Test Kitchen is seeking a seasoned developer responsible for building and maintaining Ruby on Rails applications, including anything from complex groups of back-end microservices to command-line utilities and data processing scripts. Your primary responsibility will be to design and develop these applications, and to coordinate with the rest of the team working on different layers of the infrastructure. Thus, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and building quality products is essential.\n\nOur ideal candidate has 5+ years of Ruby experience and loves to continuously learn and apply new technology to interesting challenges.\n\n\nResponsibilities:\n\nDesign, build and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Ruby code\nEnsure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications\nIdentify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems\nWork with 3rd party Saas applications and vendors\nHelp maintain code quality, organization, and automatization.\nWork closely with Product, Marketing, and Design team members to iteratively improve upon key aspects of our business\n\nSkills:\n\nGood understanding of the syntax of Ruby and its nuances\nSolid understanding of object-oriented programming\nUnderstanding of functional programming style in Ruby\nSkills for writing reusable Ruby libraries that may be used in expressive ways\nFamiliarity with concepts of MVC, Mocking, ORM, and RESTful\nStrong background in working with APIs both as the client and the service\nExperience with popular web application frameworks such as Rails and/or Sinatra\nA knack for writing clean, readable code\nExperience with both external and embedded databases (Postgres, Redis, etc)\nUnderstanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application\nAble to create database schemas that represent and support business processes\nImplementation of automated testing platforms and unit tests\nProficient understanding of code versioning tools (Github)\nFamiliarity with development aiding tools such as Bundler and Rake\nFamiliarity with continuous integration\nAbility to thrive in a highly collaborative, remote team environment (we spend a lot of time on Google Meet/Hangouts and Slack screen sharing)\nBonus points: Experience with NGINX, Heroku and Algolia\n \n\nWe are a remote team that also leaves the door open at our beautiful space in the Seaport District, should you be looking for a change in workplace scenery.\n\n Hard work and a love for your craft are paired with:\n\nCompetitive compensation\nExcellent work-life balance\nCollaborative / Team-oriented engineering team with lots of experience and tenure at ATK\nAn open mind towards new and emerging technologies\nA lot of free cookbooks\nNot to mention, an impressive collection of custom slack emojis\nWhy America’s Test Kitchen:\n\nWe're passionate about cooking, and about creating the best place to work.
