Remote Senior Iot Hardware Quality Assurance Engineer

We value well-tested, reusable designs and expect our engineers to be as good of practitioners as they are leaders and teachers.  \n\nAbout This Role \n\nVery is a remote-first company, meaning we don’t have a physical office, and you can work from anywhere in the continental United States. Whether you feel like moving or not, you don’t have to change jobs. As a Senior Hardware Integrations Engineer, you will work with our Hardware Practice Lead and other hardware engineers to deliver high-value electro-mechanical system designs to our clients.  Our goal is to rethink and retool the hardware engineering process to align it with modern software, design and data science development methods (we’re already making headway thanks to an awesome framework called Nerves). For this role we’re looking for polymath engineers who are just as comfortable working in MCAD as they are with ECAD. Some of the traits we are looking for include: \nPrevious experience designing electro-mechanical systems (3+ years)\nKnowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) practices for electrical and mechanical\nFamiliarity with:\n *Microprocessors, microcontrollers, IoT communications protocols, and common sensors\n *Hardware prototyping tools (3D printers, soldering, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, etc)\n *Low-level embedded firmware and/or embedded Linux\n *Data collection techniques  \n\nWhat You’ll Be Working On \n\nVery has been a remote company since before it became normal — 2011, to be exact. We bring them a world-class product team that delivers end-to-end IoT solutions. \n\nThe Hardware Integrations Engineer plays a key role in our multidisciplinary Agile development practice. Your responsibilities will include: \n\n * Driving our Agile practice through continuous pairing and idea generation with our team of Mechanical and Electrical engineers\n* Providing review and feedback of electrical schematics and board layouts, as well as CAD designs and 2D mechanical drawings\n * High-cadence rapid prototyping in order to build, test and break hardware early and often in the design cycle\n * Helping to develop an automated integration toolset to improve the speed at which Mechanical and Electrical changes can be reviewed and merged into the design\n * Interacting with clients and turning their vision into functional, manufacturable hardware\n * Owning the path to manufacturing on your programs by interacting with manufacturers, suppliers, and compliance testing labs on behalf of the client\n\nThe ideal candidate should have some mix of experience with the following:\n\n* Microprocessors and microcontrollers\n* Sensors\n* Soldering\n* Oscilloscopes, electronic loads, and other electronic test equipment\n* Electro-mechanical integration and assembly\n* Designing for and operating 3D printers\n* Electrical and mechanical design for manufacturing\n* Injection molding\n* IoT devices\n\nIn short, you'll spend your time ensuring that the hardware systems we ship for our clients meet the high quality level associated with the Very brand.\n\nOur Current Tooling \n\nOur IoT contracts usually involve a full service hardware and software solution. To bring the hardware from concept to reality we often use the following tools/languages: \n \n* KiCAD\n * Onshape\n * Voltera PCB Printer\n * FFF and SLA printers\n * Embedded C/C++\n * PlatformIO for embedded C/C++ projects\n * Python for scripting and build automation.\n * Github \n\nYou don't need to be an expert in all these tools, but, since you’ll be using them to prototype and test, familiarity is a plus.  Our multidisciplinary build teams are tight knit, and you will certainly encounter these stacks throughout your time here.\n\nRequired Qualifications \n\nUnfortunately, applicants who do not meet these criteria will not be considered.\n * BS or higher in a related engineering field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc)\n * 3+ years of relevant experience\n * Primary residence in the continental US (to facilitate overnight shipping to our clients and the majority of our team). \n\nHow You’ll Be Compensated \n\nDon't have your own lab equipment? Don't worry! Very is willing to help get you up and running. We’ll get you everything you need to set up a home lab and be effective in your role. This includes rapid prototyping tools, electrical test equipment, and the supplies needed to quickly build and test electro-mechanical prototypes. We believe in a transparent, fair compensation structure and have developed our own open salary formula. Depending on your skill and experience, you can expect your base compensation to be somewhere between $75,000 and $105,000 upon joining the company.
