About Us

Bye (https://usebye.app/) is the AI agent for resale stores designed to replace their consignment operation at 1/10th the cost of humans. The company has raised $1.5M+ from prominent investors, including ex-Forever21 president, ex-Sony execs, athlete celebrities, unicorn resale marketplace co-founders, and Orange Fund (YC Alumni fund), among others. The founders are both from Japan:

  • Datz (CEO, based in SF) is the first fashion YouTuber in Japan with over 1M total views
  • Shin (CTO, based in Japan) is an experienced full-stack developer and two-time founder.

Although the HQ is in SF, we operate in a fully remote work environment, with technical hiring led by Shin, hence leaning more towards the JST time zone. We are highly committed to building something new on a global scale that will change peopleโ€™s behavior. If youโ€™re seeking detailed setup guidelines for everything, this may not be the right fit, as we operate in a small and agile environment, unlike mature organizations. Weโ€™re excited to work together to change the world!

Slides With Friends is hiring a
Remote Senior Full Stack Engineer Vue.js

Slides With Friends is a platform for interactive presentations, group education, live polls/quizzes, and team building โ€” we make group experiences more engaging, educational, and fun.

Our small remote team is looking to hire our first non-founding software engineer. Youโ€™ll work directly with our technical co-founder to help build and release new features as well as improve the reliability, speed, and organization of our codebase. This is a central, hands-on role and you will be a core part of the team: your work will directly improve our customers lives and you will see immediate results from the things you build.

As our first engineering hire it will be your job to bring technical expertise to our team and help us balance the need to develop and release new features regularly with the need to improve our code quality, organization, and testing. We aim to move at a deliberate, steady speed that will bring us the most progress and the best product over the long run.

To do well in this position you should have years of experience writing clean and reliable code, shipping features regularly, and taking ownership of complex projects from start to finish. You will be the primary builder of our software โ€” this is a role for someone who likes to code and ship profusely and has the experience to do so well.

What weโ€™re looking for

  • You have 6+ years of hands-on experience building complex production software for the web
  • You have a minimum of 2 years working with VueJS professionally
  • You have a strong grasp of HTML/CSS including grid, flexbox, use of preprocessors, and optimizing for browser compatibility
  • You want a role that is primarily code contribution (e.g. building and launching features)
  • You have a visible track record of delivering products and feature to end-users
  • You have solid written and verbal English skills and communicate clearly
  • You are experienced with modern best practices for automated testing, CI/CD, git, etc. and can help us improve where we need it
  • You have experience organizing large projects for reliability, testability, performance, and upgradeability and you have opinions on how best to do these things
  • You like to take ownership of projects and donโ€™t need a lot of oversight or handholding
  • You understand the high-level goals goals of a project and create code that meets those goals, integrates elegantly with the rest of the codebase, and is ready for the future
  • You like to architect a project so it will be maintainable, testable, and extensible in the future. Thinking ahead is a key aspect of development for you

Extra credit

  • You have a CS, engineering, or similar degree
  • Experience building highly-available, scalable, real-time applications
  • Experience with Apollo/GraphQL/WebSockets
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Hasura, or cloud systems (AWS)
  • Experience with use of Cloudflare, Fastly, or CDN
  • Experience with SVG or Canvas rendering/animation

Technology

We currently use the following tech:

  • VueJs/Nuxt (migrating from 2 to 3)
  • Hasura backed by PostgreSQL
  • Apollo GraphQL over websockets
  • Cypress E2E testing

In the future we will be moving to: Vue3/Nuxt3, Typescript, more E2E testing, Storybook

Why work with us:

  • 100% remote and async team, we like working with talent wherever you are
  • Work when and how you want - we care about results not your hours
  • Your work will go directly into the hands of users and youโ€™ll have a real impact
  • Work directly with the founders and get firsthand experience building and growing a bootstrapped SaaS company
  • Focus on deliberate growth and speed, not burnout-level pressure. Our goal is to build wonderful products over years, not push our team to the edge.
  • We value deep work and autonomy and have few meetings and minimal overhead

Things you might do:

  • Help us migrate to Vue 3 and TypeScript, adding tests and improving the organization of our code along the way
  • Suggest architecture changes that would improve performance and reliability for end-users
  • Architect and build a โ€œsingle-playerโ€ or async mode for our presentations to help teachers and trainers assign quizzes
  • Implement a method for changing text sizing, positioning, and design on our responsive slides
  • Build new interactive slide types to add to our slide deck builder
  • Build a fast and light embeddable version of our interactive slides to use as live quizzes on a website
  • Update our GraphQL subscriptions, and relevant Postgres indices, to improve performance for groups of 1000+ simultaneous participants
  • Diagnose WebSocket disconnect issues and create a resilient solution that keeps our users connected and reduces error rates

About us

Our founders live in Philadelphia, PA (USA, UTC-5) and the team works remotely in a variety of time zones. Slides With Friends was started during the pandemic to help distant groups stay connected and have fun remotely โ€” and we are continuing with the mission of helping improve group experiences, social gatherings, and remote relationships. We want to bring software to the world that has a positive impact and brings people together.

(btw, here's a quick video that explains the position: https://youtu.be/s8aW66ZB8_o?feature=shared)

๐Ÿ‘‰ Are you a talented web developer who loves WordPress? And do you get excited about building new features that will be used by millions of pet lovers every month? Then this could very well be the opportunity for you!

Weโ€™re Pangoliaโ€”one of the fastest-growing pet companies, and weโ€™re on a mission to create the biggest, most helpful pet company in the world. Our largest sites: Catster.com, Dogster.com, Hepper.com, and PetKeen.com are visited by more than 60 million pet lovers every year, and weโ€™re undergoing rapid growth.

Our media sites are all built on WordPress, and our own cat furniture e-commerce brand, Hepper, is running on WooCommerce.

In this position you would be the lead web developer, which will consist of fixing the issues that come up, proactively keeping our sites secure, and building new things.

Weโ€™re a 100% remote company so youโ€™d have the freedom to work from anywhere. It's a full-time position (40 hours a week), yet you get to plan your own schedule and work whenever you want. You will become an integral member of our team at Pangolia consisting of a diverse group of more than 80 talented individuals from all over the world, joining us on our united goal of building the biggest, most helpful pet company in the world.

๐Ÿ“Œ Note: weโ€™re a fast-paced kickass team with very high expectations of ourselves and each other, and we work really hard. The webdev department needs to become kickass, so this position will definitely require working on some weekends.

๐Ÿ’ป Weโ€™re looking for a fullstack developer. However, for this position, it is much more important to be great at backend coding than frontend design. Our sites already look great on the front end, but itโ€™s mainly on the back end where a lot of work needs to be done. (we also have graphic designers on our team)

๐Ÿ’ฌ Strong communication and team collaboration skills are a MUST. We're a remote company, so great communication is a fundamental part of making the company thrive.

โ€”> All in all, this is a great opportunity if youโ€™re an amazing developer looking to rapidly grow your skills whilst working alongside peers who are at the top of their field.

Big projects in front of us right now:

1. Make Catster.com, Dogster.com, PetKeen.com, and Hepper.com the fastest loading websites when compared to our competitors, and have fewer display ads than the competition.
2. Build out the Hepper.com e-commerce experience: revamping checkout pages, category pages, product listings, and making sure that data analytics on Hepper is properly configured.
3. Clearing the big backlog of tasks that has piled up over the last couple of months. We are behind, and we have lots to do, so itโ€™s important that you hit the ground running!

4. In this role, you would over the next 3-4 months hire 1-2 developers in your department. So, itโ€™s crucial that youโ€™re excited about managing, inspiring, and doing code reviews with other developers too.

You will be responsible for

  • Making the webdev department kickass: catching up with the backlog of tasks, and being an amazing communicator.
  • After 3-4 hiring months: hiring 1-2 web developers who will work under you. Itโ€™s therefore important you are excited about hiring, managing, and doing code reviews with developers. We can help teach you the skills to hire and manage developers, though, you must be excited about this for this to work.
  • Developing new tools and software that help millions of pet lovers every month (could for example be to develop a Puppy Weight Chart Tool / Calculator that helps pet owners predict how fast, and how big their dog will grow)
  • Developing, testing, and maintaining new features and solutions for our WordPress sites for desktop and mobile browsers that are optimized for high traffic.
  • Create, review, and update technical documentation such as contributing to our development processes, QA procedures, and technical planning
  • Communicating and supporting our content and marketing departments with dev/IT requests, troubleshooting, fixing bugs
  • Performing scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance and security updates on our WordPress sites
  • Always proactively being on top of things and securing and protecting our WordPress sites from hackers and malware, as well as eliminating risks
  • Be informed of relevant new technology and best practices

You are expected to have:

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, and PHP
  • Experience with MySQL and managing databases
  • Experience with WordPress development (e.g. themes, hooks, filters, plugin API, etc)
  • Experience with build tools like Webpack or ViteJS
  • Experience with Composer and a basic understanding of autoloading, dependency management, and dependency injection
  • Experience with SSH and comfortable with basic terminal usage
  • Experience with Git (and GitHub)
  • Troubleshooting abilities (ie include finding CSS and JavaScript conflicts using browser developer tools, navigating codebases in theme and plugins, and determining whether a plugin or theme code could be causing a code conflict)
  • The ability to take a project on your own and get it done before the deadline
  • Strong communication skills. This is a MUST as we work remotely. (most of our communication is written in Slack with occasional calls)

The Type of Person We Would Love For This Role

โ€”> You are a dependable, friendly communicator

โ€”> Youโ€™re passionate about solving problems with smart and elegant programming solutions. Your code is clean, understandable, and well-commented

โ€”> Youโ€™re a self-starter who loves taking initiative and seeing things through to completion.

โ€”> You have the curiosity and desire to learn and grow your skills and discover new modern practices and follow the latest trends in WordPress

โ€”> Youโ€™re able to juggle around and work on different projects and side tasks on a weekly basis. While we wish we could focus on one thing for weeks at a time to make it perfect, thatโ€™s often not the reality in a competitive market.

Benefits/Perks when working at Pangolia

๐ŸŒ Work from anywhere (weโ€™re 100% remote)

๐Ÿ’ก Work with a hard-working, talented team of kickass people

๐Ÿ•‘ Flexible work hours, you get to plan your own schedule and work whenever you want

๐ŸŒด Company retreats! (we just did a company retreat in Phuket, Thailand!)

๐Ÿ’ฐ Your payment is paid biweekly (Youโ€™re paid every two weeks)

๐Ÿ’ป We encourage you to find a working environment that suits your needs the best if working from home every single day isnโ€™t for you. (Weโ€™ll cover monthly membership and/or day passes for co-working spaces.)
โ›ฑ๏ธ 21 days of paid time off every year

๐Ÿค Your work with a great, talented team that produces a high-growth work environment (we move fast)

๐Ÿ“ˆ Opportunity to move up in the company, and earn higher pay and bonuses

Some things to know about our workflow

  • Every Monday, we have a one-on-one Zoom meeting to discuss our goals, whether you are meeting your goals, what went well, what did not go well, and so on.
  • You would work directly with the CEO, Simon, who trusts you with your responsibility areas and empowers you to come up with and for you to find the solutions. In other words: this role has a lot of freedom for you to work in the way that you think is best for the company. Simon and the team do not micromanage and have no interest in doing so.
  • Youโ€™re also responsible for maintaining the Github repository of the project youโ€™re working on, committing/pushing/documenting your changes, commenting on your code, and writing SOPs or technical documentation (if necessary). It doesnโ€™t have to be pages long and can be very short and concise. But, as a developer, it makes life so much easier if you can return to your code in the future without having to think too hard about what you did. This is also about being considerate of your teammates' time.
  • There must be some overlap in our working hours so you can respond to urgent requests (if any) or chat with your manager or any of our departments on demand if they have an IT question. This means that some extra tasks may arise during the week.
  • You might have a day where one of our team members needs something urgent and needs it done the same or the next day, which can be valuable to the company, or a major issue needs to be fixed ASAP, in which case you might have to drop what you're working on and work on that. If your main project's deadline cannot be met because of this (which is understandable), you should be able to communicate this on time.
  • However, most of the time you are able to work on your main projects in solitary. We understand that developers need complete focus. You can also chat and ask questions in our Slack channels.

The team (and our work culture)

Youโ€™ll get to be part of a 100% remote company consisting of a diverse group of 80 talented individuals from all over the world. The people you will find on the team are veterinarians, marketers, content writers, editors, social media managers, graphics designers, content managers, and a lot more.

And youโ€™ll get to join us on our united mission of improving the lives of pets and those who care for them. We dream big, and our mission is to become the biggest, most helpful pet company in the world.

Youโ€™ll get to be part of a company thatโ€™s undergoing hyper-growth, and the fast-paced work environment that comes with it.

And weโ€™ve managed to grow at a healthy pace without ever sacrificing our culture and values.

Our company culture is focused on work and collaboration, but also being open to the casual humor and chatter that makes us get to know each other.

We value the freedom of being able to work from anywhere, trust, and collaboration.

Greetings to you!ย You have stumbled into the right place stranger. Heed these words carefully, and we shall see if you have what it takes to brave the Road of Application. Skip the details below at your own peril, adventurer.

This is your chance to work with the next generation web-based simulation game for business courses in higher education (mouthful)!ย ย

For a decade we have toiled alone, and finally the time to expand has come. A position has opened up in our exclusive developer ensemble, just for you! As the third musketeer, youโ€™ll be adding a whopping 50% coding power to our capacity of 2, which entails both great power and great responsibility. We hope you genuinely enjoy delivering awesome solutions and iterating on them, with strong ownership over features, in collaboration with fantastic co-workers (promise), because thatโ€™s what youโ€™ll do here.ย

While we are a small dev team, we have good backing from the product team and a wider ecosystem of experts in everything from accessibility to security and design at Sage (our parent company), as well as strong support and sales teams. Down the road we will also continue to expand the dev team.ย

Our stack is React + Meteor/Node, (mostly) all Typescript, running on AWS, with Cypress tests. Weโ€™re Linux people, but you can be of a different persuasion if you have a good argument for it. We are pragmatic when it comes to development, meaning we want the minimum viable process that everyone is happy with, without needing to label it strictly. Letโ€™s dispense with the buzzwords and do good, reliable work.ย

ย

Responsibilitiesย

  • Full stack development on the simulation platform, in feature / simulation development and bug fixing. Weโ€™ll see what areas you like and have you work on that. Examples include:ย

  • New business simulations in related fieldsย

  • Existing game features and balanceย

  • Exercise and event framework to enhance learning and engagementย

  • Back end to improve performance and stabilityย

  • Integrations to learning management systems or the sales teamย

  • Write end-to-end tests for features you make, and unit-tests where they are necessary.ย

  • 3rd level technical support when one of us has done something terribly wrong.ย

  • Review PRs from the team, to keep us in lineย

ย

Qualificationsย

  • 5+ years background in programmingย

  • Strong working knowledge of Node/JS/TS/Meteor/React, but a quick study can make up the difference if you know other, related technologies/frameworks.ย

  • Strong interest in, or knowledge of, business/finance/marketing subjects? Youโ€™re on our shortlist.ย

  • Loves working collaboratively, receiving and giving constructive feedback.ย

  • Nerdย

  • A degree in computer science or equivalent is not necessary, but nice of course.ย ย

  • Works and thinks independently but communicates and asks when problems and questions arise.ย ย

  • Sees the business and customer value in the work you do.ย ย

  • Sense of humor, at least 15 years of experience with this.ย

  • Reads this carefully and painstakingly crafted job description and provides a relevant cover letter that demonstrates this.ย

Benefits and Perks for employees

  • Free accounting books! Hoorayย

  • Remote! With the option of going to the office if you live close to one of our officesย

  • Julebord in Norway once a year (look it up!)ย

  • 25 days holiday excluding bank holidays full-time/pro-rated for part-time rolesย

  • 2 additional โ€™floating daysโ€™ of personal leave, in recognition that each of us has cultural, religious, or family commitments that fall at times when the company is not closed.ย

  • Life assuranceย

  • Pensionย

  • Income protectionย

  • Tuition scheme and support for pursuing professional qualificationsย

  • Home working allowanceย

  • Travel Insuranceย

  • Healthy lifestyle reimbursementย

  • Access to the company doctor (UK)ย

  • Access to Company loans (season ticket loan, rental deposit loan, cycle loan)ย

  • Benefits can vary depending on your location and working arrangement. ย

Locationย

We have offices in Oslo and London, but remote is fine if youโ€™re in the EU or Eastern US time zones.ย

Equal Opportunity

We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. Youโ€™ve heard all this before right, but we actually mean it.ย
ย

About the company, Hubro Education / Sage publishingย

Hubro Education is based in Norway and has been making simulation games for business and marketing education for 10 years. were recently acquired by Sage Publishing, so we could reach a worldwide audience of college- and university level students in business courses.ย  We deliver the best solutions (won prizes actually) for fun, interactive learning to a field that is not known for being either.ย ย

Founded in 1965, Sage Publishing is a global academic publisher dedicated to disseminating high-quality, accessible knowledge. With a focus on social sciences, Sage provides a range of publications including scholarly journals, books, and electronic media. Sage Publishing operates as an independent, privately-owned company. Being privately held allows Sage to maintain a steadfast focus on its mission and values, providing a stable platform for producing and distributing scholarly work without the pressures typically associated with publicly traded companies.ย

ย
I'll only be reading the applications with interesting cover letters, but I will read them carefully.ย

In the cover letter, please answer the following:ย

Why did you apply to this job?ย

What is your relationship with games / gaming?ย

What do you think of the domain we work in?ย

Why are you a good fit with us?ย

What do you look forward to in this job?ย

ย Hope to hear from you!ย

We're looking for aย fullstack developer ninjaย to join our team of 18 at Internet Game.

Youโ€™ll be working with a team of 3 other fullstack developers to build out our web platform for playing a library of Unity games using WebGL. Youโ€™ll work across the stack, but with more of a focus on the frontend.

Our Code Stack:

  • React/NextJS + Tailwind
  • gRPC + Redis + Mongo
  • GoLang (any equivalent language knowledge would suffice)

This describes you:

  • You have a great eye for design, UX, and seeing pixels out of place
  • You're the best at what you do and have strong ideas of the best way to build things
  • You're detail-oriented & hyper-organized, but you move quickly
  • You actively seek to upgrade your skills and learn new things
  • You're excited about building something awesome with a highly skilled yet super playful team

What is Internet Game?

Website: https://internet.game

Internet Game is inspired by innovative projects that combined social apps with gaming, like Pokemon Go and HQ Trivia. We take the highly social aspects of AAA games like Fortnite and apply them to casual games that anyone can play.

We launched as an experiment back in March 2022. 8000 players battled through 5 mini-games across 5 days, elimination-style (inspired by Squid Game). Those still in at the end won huge prizes.

Since then, we've raised $7M and expanded our fully-remote team to 18 people.

Now we're building out our platform to allow anyone to play our ever-growing library of mini-games.

Our mission is to create new ways for the world to play together.

Interested? We'd love to have you on board.

More Details

  • Fully remote position
  • Unlimited time off & no set working hours โ€” we hire people who love what they do and trust you to manage your own time
  • We only have department meetings on Mondays. Otherwise, meetings are only set as needed
  • All positions are given a competitive salary, as well as an equity stake in the company. We believe the best results come from a team that truly owns what theyโ€™re building.

Make a difference in the lives of 1,000s of ethical hackers building the tools they need.

Our tool, Dradis Framework, is used by 1,000s of hacking experts in 44 countries around the world. We're looking for folks who like to solve problems and build a business and product that people genuinely love to interact with.

We're small, self-funded, profitable, and have beenย in business for 12 years.

Whatโ€™s the opportunity?

Weโ€™re looking to hire ourย 10th full-time employee, a well-rounded Rails developer.

In this role, you will learn a ton and be part of a small, global, and user-centered company. Youโ€™ll have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of 100s of ethical hackers. Plus, as a small team, you will have a lot of choice about what to work on, and there are still a lot of untapped opportunities for you to grow as the company does.

What we offer and what we are looking for:

You'll be a trusted and key member of our team, and this is (some of) what you'll end up doing on a day-to-day basis:

  • Improve the experience for our users, and help them get the results they need.
  • Detect opportunities to enhance and improve our stack.
  • Extend the coverage of our API layer.
  • Improve our existing products and internal systems. We want to learn from you as you learn from us.
  • Prioritize and decide what features we should tackle next.

Our stack:

  • Rails 6 (although we started with Rails 1.2 in 2007)
  • JS, Stimulus, CoffeeScript, and Sass
  • Bootstrap and jQuery
  • Postgres and MySQL
  • Sinatra, Resque, Middlemanapp, Chef, Vagrant, Nginx, Unicorn,...

We're looking for a solid Rubyist with ยซadequateยป experience who is comfortable in a 100% distributed team and is self-driven.

This is a full-time position for the right candidate and it has an immediate start date.ย Work 100% remotely on a flexible schedule withย reasonable overlap with EU business hours.

About you

Ideally, you've held a remote position before, or you've held a similar position of responsibility in a traditional organization but now are looking to improve your work-life balance.

You are a well-rounded individual, work is not everything in life, you may have a family and social life. You work hard when it's work time and areย able to switch offย when it isn't.

You're comfortable communicating with others verbally and in writing.ย Our team is spread across the world, and so are our users.

You are organized, like to be on top of your responsibilities, and don't let things slip through the cracks. You will be sure to include the name of your favourite tv series as part of your application.

A knack for design / UX will be a plus. A background in Information Security wouldn't hurt either.

You believe in giving back to the community.ย We started with an open-source project and to this day we remain firm believers in open-source and giving back. Most of what you will be creating with the team will be released as open-source.

Benefits of working with us

  • Work anywhereย โ€“ We're 100% remote.
  • Flexible work hoursย - Provided you have reasonable overlap with the team (roughly within US/Eastern business hours).
  • Great salaryย โ€“ You will be making more than others in your region.
  • Flexible vacationย โ€“ Take time off when you need it, we trust you (no less than 4 weeks each year).
  • No external pressuresย - Our users are king, we do what's best for them. We're self-funded, and don't have any investors, so we can make the right decisions for our customers without worrying about artificial deadlines or financial targets.
  • Autonomyย โ€“ You will be given a lot of freedom to do what you think is right, without needing to explain every decision.
  • Meaningful workย โ€“ You will take initiative and ownership to see things through to completion. We won't micro-manage you. And your work will be measured by your results.
  • You'll be working in the two greatest markets in the world these days...ย Softwareย &ย Security.
  • You will have great hardware and tools to work with.

What is LoanCrate?

We started LoanCrate to make home-buying simpler and less expensive for lenders and borrowers (us!). Today, mortgage lenders are stuck running their companies on software products built 20 years ago. These products are slow and unstable, and end up costing lenders millions of dollars in other otherwise preventable mistakes every year. LoanCrate solves those problems and more, helping lenders improve the home-buying experience for people all over the country.

Since starting in January 2021, our remote team has raised $9m, grown to 15 people, and launched our first product. And since adopting LoanCrate in June '21, our customers have used LoanCrate to power >$50 billion in new home loans. As a company, we're on track to be cash-flow positive in 2023.

Our team is a group of people excited to tackle the complexity of the home-lending industry. We care about collaboration, very open communication covering the good & the bad so that we learn from our decisions quickly, and ultimately having fun while we're building. You'll fit in well if you like diving deep quickly!

The opportunity

Our dreams are big and we have much to build! We're looking for senior software engineers to help lead our team in powering the future of home buying in the US (which could entail managing a majority of US home loans every year โ€” financial assets worth trillions of dollars).

We are excited to offer competitive salary and equity for this role.

What to expect

As an engineer at LoanCrate, you'll continue our team tradition by shipping code to production on your first day! Following that, within your first month, you'll dive into your first mission-critical project, such as...

๐Ÿ™ˆ Architecting, building, and launching v2 of our no-code platform that our customers use to digitize their ops workflows and save millions of dollars per year.

๐Ÿค Integrating with 3rd-party providers of lending services APIs to generate documents/disclosures, produce automated underwriting results, or prevent fraud.

๐Ÿ— Architecting, building, and launching the next generation of our job processing infrastructure on AWS to make LoanCrate's back end more observable and reliable.

Tech stack

Nearly all of our code is written in TypeScript. We use React on the frontend, Node/Express on the backend (running inside Docker), GraphQL/Apollo on both sides, and Postgres as our database. We use AWS (ECS, RDS, ElastiCache, SNS, and more) and manage all of our infrastructure with Terraform.

We believe that high engineering velocity drives high product velocity (and, in turn, our success as a company ๐Ÿ˜„). Keeping this in mind, we've invested heavily in creating a great developer experience that enables engineers to ship fast. Some highlights of our stack:

โ†”๏ธ End-to-End Type Safety - We generate TypeScript types from our Postgres and GraphQL schemas so that when we change our database schema we see type errors in any incompatible frontend React components.

๐ŸŒŽ Full-Stack Code Sharing - Our build tooling supports seamless sharing of TypeScript files between the client, server, and other packages in our mono-repo so that we never have to define functions or configuration values twice.

๐Ÿ  Reproducible Infrastructure - Weโ€™ve used Terraform to manage 100% of our infrastructure since day 1 and have configured our CI pipeline to automatically deploy temporary staging environments for every pull request. We use these per-PR environments to get feedback from teammates and test any infrastructure changes using infrastructure that's identical to production.

๐Ÿงช First Class Testing Utilities - We have a comprehensive library of utilities that mock production-like data and feed automated end-to-end, integration, and performance tests. Our wide-ranging test suite allows us to move fast while maintaining nearly perfect uptime.

Preferred skills and background
(It's okay not to have all of these things - these are just some skills we are excited about!)

๐Ÿ”’ A constant and keen eye for security risks โ€” we store and display some of people's most sensitive personal data and need to keep it safe!

๐ŸŽจ A desire to be product-oriented, from thinking through the product implications of what you're building to contributing your unique ideas of how to improve the product.

๐Ÿ™๏ธ Ability to develop readable, maintainable, and effective software architecture patterns that support use of our product by various enterprise customers (each with thousands of employees and their own methods for running their companies).

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿซ Excitement to mentor less senior engineers in both hard and soft skills.

๐Ÿšˆ SRE-oriented mindset for developing infrastructure that's reliable, observable, and requires minimal toil to maintain.

๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ Experience scaling high-throughput distributed systems in the cloud. Bonus points if you're experienced with infrastructure-as-code solutions like Terraform or CloudFormation!

๐Ÿ”ง Ability to develop full-stack web app features from design through deployment.

๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ Experience designing and scaling complex relational DB schemas, as well as figuring out performant ways to store, retrieve, and update such data. Home loans have thousands of data fields ๐Ÿ™ƒ.

At Hellotext, we're on a mission to change the way eCommerce businesses communicate. Leveraging our innovative Customer Data Platform (CDP) and engagement tools, we empower businesses to construct comprehensive customer profiles from diverse data sources such as eCommerce platforms, Point-of-Sale (PoS) systems, and more. We make reaching out to customers effortless, enabling businesses to execute precisely targeted campaigns via WhatsApp, SMS and more.

In essence, we're transforming the communication landscape by enabling businesses to connect with the right customer, delivering the right message, at precisely the right moment. With Hellotext, communication is not just simplified, it's optimized for success.

As a small yet growing startup, we're looking for a passionate and experienced Ruby on Rails software engineer to become the fourth member of our tight-knit team. This is an opportunity where your contributions won't just be felt - they'll help shape the direction of our company and its products.

Your Role

Weโ€™re seeking a dedicated candidate for a remote and full-time position. As a company, we value great design and code, and pay close attention to detail throughout the product development process. If youโ€™re passionate about writing elegant, well-organized code, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.

You'll be working directly with our CTO to expand our capabilities, delivering faster and more efficient solutions to our clients. Apart from coding, you'll also engage in strategic discussions, contribute to architectural decision-making, and influence the roadmap of our product.

Your Responsibilities

  • Enhance our mission and expand our product's capabilities by developing new integrations with third-party services and APIs. This includes eCommerce platforms, Point-of-Sale (PoS) systems, CRMs, and more. Your contribution will be instrumental in broadening our product's scope and enriching our platform's connectivity options, directly impacting the way our clients do business.
  • Building new features and functionality for both the frontend and backend.
  • Optimize existing complex backend processing jobs when required.
  • Collaborate with the CTO in identifying parts of the system that need fixing and optimization.
  • Participate in building new app features and our new dashboard.
  • Assisting in scaling efforts by performing benchmarks and optimizations as needed, and proposing changes to architecture design.

Your Qualifications

  • You have experience building applications with Ruby and Rails, ideally in projects involving complex interactions with 3rd party APIs.
  • You possess a deep understanding of application integration, including studying and understanding integration tools' documentation, and transforming it into efficient code.
  • You have a good background in JavaScript and familiarity with Hotwire and other popular JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, etc.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including working with large databases, complex queries, and materialized views.
  • A formal Engineering or CS background is preferred, but not required. If not, the candidate should be able to explain how they have learned the fundamentals of CS.
  • Familiarity with design patterns, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and algorithms.
  • A strong sense of aesthetics and product design, with the ability to improve flows and UI designs independently.
  • Familiarity with common stack tools and technologies such as Github, CI, RSpec, AWS, CSS/Sass/TailwindCSS.
  • You are humble and have excellent asynchronous communication skills. You are open to giving and receiving constructive criticism.
  • You possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English and can explain complex issues clearly. Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese would be a plus.

Our Team

We are a distributed global team comprising of the CEO, CTO, and a Sales Executive. You'll be our fourth addition, closely collaborating with the CTO and occasionally engaging with the rest of the team in meetings.

Our Stack

Ruby and Rails, Hotwire, TailwindCSS, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Kubernetes clusters deployed to AWS, and GitHub.

You

You love the thrill of building a product from scratch, relishing the opportunity to influence its design decisions and future trajectory. You understand the importance of code structure and relationships when writing code. You recognize the occasional need for quick-fixes and are able to balance this with maintaining overall system integrity. You are independent and don't require micro-management.

In joining Hellotext, you'll be part of a dynamic startup that values its employees as much as its product. Apply today and make a difference in the eCommerce communication landscape.

Benefits

  • 100% Remote: Work from anywhere, at any time, without the hassle of a daily commute.
  • Flexible Schedule: Choose a work schedule that works best for you and your lifestyle.
  • Generous Time-Off Policy: Take time off whenever you need it, with unlimited paid time off.

Hi!

Lightup Network Solutions GmbH & Co. KG is a small ISP and telecommunications service provider (VoIP) based in Frankfurt, Germany. Lightup's team is 100% remote, distributed worldwide (Germany, Portugal, Serbia, Morocco, Brazil, Colombia) and consists currently of just 7 mostly non-tech people. Now we need a hybrid Web Dev / Sys Admin tech pro to join our small team. Lightup was established in 1998 as a ISP focused on webhosting and dedicated servers. Since 2011 Lightup has shifted its core business towards internet-based telecommunication services, primarily so-called DIDs a.k.a. virtual telephone numbers along with international retail and wholesale call termination (VoIP, SIP). In 2022 Lightup became a licensed telecom operator in Switzerland and the wholesale business has been booming since then.

Your tasks would be:

  • Short-term (now - 6 months): Create multiple new commercial telecom-oriented web-based services from scratch based on the team's ideas (PHP + MySQL preferred, but really up to you)
  • In the mid-term (6 - 12 months), create, re-design & code from scratch successor sites for outdated Joomla-based sites
  • Create Linux console-based or web-based scripts and tools to support the team, such as customer accounting scripts / accounting & billing automation or VoIP buy- and sell-rates output automation (Bash, Perl, Python, PHP - your choice)
  • Take care of 30+ KVM-based VMs and the 20+ underlaying physical servers running CentOS
  • Keep CentOS installations updated, migrate those which are too old to new installations
  • Set up new VoIP customers in our VoIP system / cluster (Asterisk, Kamailio)
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and fix SIP and DID call issues / Work & communicate with vendors and customers alike
  • Provide technical customer & order support for our 2 Joomla-based retail telecom services
  • Create a new API from scratch for lawful interception compatibility / requests
  • Constantly communicate with the team (WhatsApp, Slack) and help them to make their non-tech jobs easier by the creation of cool & useful new tools

Some commands / tools that should be familiar:

  • vim and vi
  • ssh, rsync
  • sort, cut, tail, head
  • awk, sed, tr, wc
  • grep, uniq, paste, join, shuf
  • top (and understand what you're seeing)
  • ps (and understand what you're seeing)
  • ifconfig, netstat, tcpdump, ping, traceroute, mtr, whois
  • ls, cd, cp, mv, rm, cat, echo, mkdir, find, date, df
  • screen, less, more
  • yum
  • (Bonus: sngrep, kamctl, sipsak)

If you're not typing most of these commands multiple times on a daily basis into your SSH client or into your local console then you can stop reading at this point and skip to the next job offer. Else, since you are a Linux console person, please read on...

Some server daemons, binaries and tech that you'll be dealing with:

  • Apache / httpd
  • MySQL / MariaDB / mysqld / mysql
  • sshd
  • KVM / qemu / vncserver
  • cron
  • iptables
  • Bash
  • ProFTPD
  • Asterisk
  • pssh
  • Kamailio
  • X / GNOME
  • tinydns / dnscache
  • Nagios
  • Sendmail, postfix, exim, SpamAssassin, Dovecot (via DirectAdmin)
  • MRTG
  • IPMI / KVM-over-IP
  • BackupPC
  • (Optional network admin bonus: Juniper M- and SRX-series routers, HP ProCurve switches, vrrp, BGP, RIPE)

Minimum languages that you'll need, software and protocols that you'll have to either already know or learn:

  • Bash Shellscript
  • PHP
  • Joomla (from scratch, heavily modified, forget click-to-install modules/add-ons)
  • MySQL / MariaDB
  • Apache Webserver
  • SIP
  • Asterisk

This is a freelancer position, meaning you'll be responsible for taking care of paying taxes, health insurance, social insurance, pension fund etc. by yourself.

You'll be working just 6 hours per day, not 8 hours. But since Lightup's team is global and so are our customers those 6 hours will be spread over the course of a day European time (CET, Berlin) between 10:00 and 22:00. Imagine it like 12 hours standby per day (WhatsApp, Slack, E-Mail) but effectively 6 hours will be dedicated to Web Development, Sys Admin and Tech Support tasks.

Your profile:

  • Highly self-motivated & independent, but still a team player
  • Good communicator, friendly attitude
  • Flexible, curious to learn & try new
  • Very accurate, with tendency to perfectionism
  • You're working careful and exact, and you re-read your changes multiple times before you actually save the file
  • Multiple years Linux experience & created multiple web-based services (PHP + MySQL or comparable) from scratch
  • You are a real coder, you don't drag & drop buttons and menus and call that coding
  • You can edit / read / write code with a text editor on your Linux console and you actually understand what you're reading and writing

Education, age, gender not important. Yes, we're looking for a Linux / Web Dev geek / pro. If you're living in your mothers basement for the last 10 years that's OK. If you're never leaving your appartment that's OK too. If you're happily married and have 4 children that's fine too. Coding on laptop is inefficient and slow, so if you are a nomad you need at least a real keyboard + mouse or you'll be too slow.

Since starting in January 2021, our remote team has raised $9m, grown to 13 people, and launched our first product. And since adopting LoanCrate in June '21, our customers have used LoanCrate to power >$42b in new home loans.
