Hi there. It's Marc from [WIP](https://wip.chat), [BetaList](https://betalist.com), and [Startup Jobs](https://startup.jobs). I'm looking to contract a remote, part-time Full-stack Rails developer.\n\n\n\nStarting out with $2,000/mo budget โ number of hours up to you.\n\n\n\nRight now, I do all product development myself (both design and tech), but there's only so many hours in a day. To speed up product development, I am now looking to work with a Ruby on Rails developer. \n\n\n\n**What you'll get out of it**\n\n\n\nYou'll be working directly with me. You get to regularly ship code that will be used by thousands of makers. You will learn what it's like to iterate really quick. What it takes to build a bootstrapped business. How to be an pragmatic maker focusing on the right 20% of work, that delivers 80% of the results. You get to work on a bunch of different products within the full stack. There might be an opportunity down the road to take the lead on a specific product, if that's what you want.\n\n\n\n**Compensation**\n\n\n\nThis is a freelancing gig. You will send me a monthly invoice for your billable hours x your hourly rate.\n\n\n\nMy initial budget is $2,000/mo. If things work out, this will increase over time and so would the number of working hours. Assuming you're up for it.\n\n# Responsibilities\n
You'll be working alongside me on WIP, BetaList, and/or Startup Jobs. We'll probably start out with just one, but over time you might work on multiple products. The tech stacks for these are very similar. (more on that below)\n\n\n\nYou'll be building new features, refactoring existing code, fixing bugs, optimizing performance, and adding test coverage. Most importantly, you will ship early and often. I like to work in very short iterations, with most code hitting production within hours or days of writing it. Whenever possible, big changes get broken up in smaller ones so there's never that fear of shipping something big and hoping for the best.\n\n\n\nDepending on your skill set you'll also be touching some front-end code and server config. \n\n\n\nWhile I haven't adopted the TDD lifestyle yet, I have started to add more test coverage to my projects. Especially for code that is mission critical (e.g. signups), or hard to test manually (e.g. many different scenarios).\n\n\n\n**Workflow**\n\n\n\nI like to keep my schedule as free as possible. Therefore, don't expect many meetings/calls. Most communication will happen asynchronously through Telegram chat.\n\n\n\nI expect you to be able to work independently and move fast. \n\n# Requirements\nYou should have extensive experience building production Rails apps. You should also have experience working by yourself, communicate clearly, and willing to take initiative. I will take a hands-off approach and trust you to do the work and reach out to me when necessary.\n\n\n\nWhen applying, you need to be able to share relevant source code for me to review. If you cannot share this, please do not apply. If you need me to sign an NDA first, send me a message.\n\n\n\n**Nice-to-have**\n\n\n\n* Front-end skills (HTML, CSS, JS)\n\n* DevOps skills\n\n* An eye for design\n\n\n\n**Tech Stack**\n\n\n\n* Ruby on Rails 5+\n\n* Puma\n\n* Heroku / Linode\n\n* Devise / OmniAuth\n\n* HAML (but considering switching to SLIM for performance) \n\nPlease mention the words **REDUCE CLAW DESPAIR** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4yMg==). \nWork with a team of smart, highly productive engineers who care greatly about the code they are shipping. Our culture is very DevOps centric with the goal of bringing the most value we can to our business through a streamlined CI/CD pipeline. Our team champions learning, bettering themselves, and teaching to the rest of the team. In addition to working with a great team and shipping a great leading SaaS product, one day every two weeks you'll invest in yourself. You can use that time to learn about new technologies, contribute to open source, or create side projects that help the company. The position is local Seattle, but will consider remote in Portland or Vancouver.\n\nRequirements\n\n\n* Continually learning and furthering yourself is a priority. We foster a strong culture of learning within the team.\n\n* You have over 5 years of professional software engineering experience.\n\n* You have at least 3 years of experience working directly with Ruby, either with a company, or via open source. Past contributions to open source projects, or maintaining your own, are looked very highly upon.\n\n* You have extensive Javascript experience. We utilize client-side Javascript frameworks, so knowledge of React and other popular frameworks is preferable.\n\n* You should have a strong understanding of relational SQL databases and query optimization. We use MySQL and Postgres.\n\n* At PipelineDeals, the product engineers also own the production infrastructure. Previous experience with configuration management, AWS, and other operations related tasks are a big plus.\n\n* You thrive on continuous improvement values and can help contribute and lead the team to always get better.\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
