Obol is hiring a
Remote Senior Frontend Engineer DApp Development

\nWho Are We?\n\n\nObol Labs is a remote-first research and software development team focused on Proof of Stake infrastructure for public blockchain networks. Specific topics of focus are Internet Bonds, Distributed Validator Technology, and Multi-Operator Validation. The core team includes 35 members spread across +14 countries.\n\n\nThe core team is building the Obol Network, a protocol to foster trust-minimized staking through multi-operator validation. This will enable low-trust access to Ethereum staking yield, which can be used as a core building block in various Web3 products.\n\n\nThe Network\n\n\nThe network can be best visualized as a work layer that sits directly on top of the base layer consensus. This work layer is designed to provide the base layer with more resiliency and decentralization as it scales. In this chapter of Ethereum, we will move on to the next great scaling challenge, which is stake centralization. Layers like Obol are critical to the long-term viability and resiliency of public networks, especially networks like Ethereum.\n\n\nObol as a layer is focused on scaling main chain staking by providing permissionless access to Distributed Validators. The network utilizes a middleware implementation of Distributed Validator Technology (DVT), to enable the operation of distributed validator clusters that can preserve validators' current client and remote signing configurations.\n\n\nSimilar to how roll-up technology laid the foundation for L2 scaling implementations, we believe DVT will do the same for scaling the consensus layer while preserving decentralization. Staking infrastructure is entering its protocol phase of evolution, which must include trust-minimized staking networks that can be plugged into at scale. We believe DVT will evolve into a widely used primitive and will ensure the security, resiliency, and decentralization of public networks.\n\n\nThe Obol Network develops and maintains three core public goods that will eventually work together through circular economics:\n\n\nThe DV Launchpad, a User Interface for bootstrapping and managing Distributed Validators\n\n\nCharon, a Golang based middleware client that enables validators to run in a fault-tolerant, distributed manner.\n\n\nObol Splits, a set of solidity contracts for the formation of Distributed Validators tailored to different use cases such as DeFi, Liquid Staking, and Fractionalized Deposits \n\n\n\n\nSustainable Public Goods\n\n\nObol is inspired by previous work on Ethereum public goods and experimenting with circular economics. We believe that to unlock innovation in staking use cases, a credibly neutral layer must exist for innovation to flow and evolve vertically. Without this layer, highly available uptime will continue to be a moat.\n\n\nThe Obol Network will become an open, community-governed, self-sustaining project over the coming months and years. Together we will incentivize, build, and maintain distributed validator technology that makes public networks a more secure and resilient foundation to build on top of.\n\n\nThe Role \n\n\nThe focus of this role is on developing and enhancing React-based web applications for interacting with the Ethereum blockchain to create Distributed Validators. This includes creating user-friendly interfaces, integrating with wallets, and ensuring the applications are absolutely secure and reliable.\n\n\nThe goal of this role is to enable the proliferation of Distributed Validators in the Ethereum Staking Ecosystem, by making them easy to create, view, understand, and interact with. This role requires working with agency and autonomy. It requires collaboration with cross-functional internal teams as well as dealing with external stakeholders. Obolโ€™s Distributed Validator Launchpad, Obolโ€™s static website, Obolโ€™s typescript packages, and other applications will be under this roleโ€™s remit. \n\n\n\nResponsibilities\n* Develop and implement new features for our web applications using React, showcasing your expertise in creating user-centric solutions.\n* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product owners, designers, and QA engineers, to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality products.\n* Contribute to Obolโ€™s coding standards, design patterns, and development methodologies.\n* Drive innovation by researching and adopting the latest trends and technologies in the React ecosystem, ensuring our applications remain secure, competitive, and cutting-edge.\n* Act as a technical mentor for junior developers, providing guidance and support to help them grow and excel in their roles.\n* Collaborate with external partners integrating Obol technology into their dapps using the Obol SDK.\n* Take responsibility for maintaining and enhancing our current products, including our component library (obol-ui) and DApp (dv-launchpad).\n* Improve the accessibility of our interfaces to all types of internet users.\n* Harden the security of our React software and its supply chain.  \n\n\n\nRequirements\n* Professional experience in React-based Ethereum Application Development (examples below).\n* What we use for React Development: Typescript, Next.js, React Hook Form, SWR, Zustand, @headlessui/react, stitches.dev, tailwindCSS and others. \n* What we use for Ethereum Development: Foundry, Hardhat, Ethers.js, web3-react, @obolnetwork/obol-sdk, @metamask/eth-sig-util, @0xsplits/splits-sdk(-react), @gnosis.pm/safe-core-sdk, @synthetixio/synpress, @chainsafe/(bls/discv5/ssz) and others. \n* Previous delivery of react websites that enable non-custodial, wallet-based interaction with mainnet Ethereum or a similar EVM network with more than $100k in value handled. \n* Knowledge of JS/TS security and testing best practices.\n* Knowledge of JS/TS CI/CD best practices.\n* Experience working with Agile Software Development methodologies.\n* Web3 professional experience.\n* Proven ability to maintain and contribute to Open Source repos \n* Timezone between UTC-2 to UTC+3 \n\n\n\nNice to have\n* Ethereum staking experience.\n* Node.js or other backend development experience.\n* Solidity development experience.\n* Familiarity with docker and/or running servers.\n* SQL/NoSQL experience.\n* Experience working in a distributed remote team.\n\n\n\nBenefits\n* Fully Remote Working and flexible hours.\n* Meet the team at our Annual Offsites.\n* Chance to attend crypto and staking conferences.\n* Working with the purpose of decentralising Ethereum.\n* Generous paid time off.\n* Budget for equipment.\n* Budget for training or education.\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you for your interest. Monzo is hiring a
Remote Senior iOS Engineer

\n๐Ÿ“Anywhere, UK | ๐Ÿ’ฐ ยฃ80,000 - ยฃ140,000 base salary per year โž• plus stock options + Benefits \nAbout us\n\nWeโ€™re here to make money work for everyone and we're doing things differently. For too long, banking has been obtuse, complex and opaque.\n\nWe want to change that and build a bank with everyone, for everyone. Our amazing community suggests features, test the app and give us constant feedback so we can build something everyone loves.\n\nWe're focused on solving problems, rather than selling financial products. We want to make the world a better place and change people's lives through Monzo.\nAbout our mobile engineering practice\n\nOur mobile engineers have a variety of different backgrounds\n\nThere are 25 iOS engineers at Monzo and weโ€™re looking for one more to join the team. We have several non-graduates; only some of us studied Computer Science; some of us have worked in huge companies; some have only ever worked in startups; others are former consultants. As long as you enjoy learning new things, weโ€™d love to talk to you.\n\nWe are actively creating an equitable environment for all of our engineers to thrive\n\nDiversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we are making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Monzo. We provide a sponsorship framework in Engineering for women and people of colour; all of our leaders are trained on privilege awareness and we are creating partnerships with organisations dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups.\n\nWe encourage an open and transparent working environment\n\nYou can get involved in any aspect of the business you are interested in and, following Stripeโ€™s example, all emails in the company are visible in an email archive. We default to transparency and prefer to communicate openly in Slack rather than by email or in DMs. Our blog is an excellent place to learn even more about what we do!\n\nMonzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams\n\nWe have 200+ engineers out of roughly 2,500 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we're happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you'd be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so youโ€™ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.\nYour day-to-day\n\nWeโ€™re searching for a product-aware Senior iOS engineers with a passion for great UI and UX to join our team. You understand the need for tested, resilient code balanced against the need to move fast and iterate.\n\nYouโ€™ll be working on a product that is a part of day to day life for more than 6 million people already, and your work here will shape the way that people interact with their finances.\n\nThis role is all about collaborating across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to customers. As an iOS engineer at Monzo you'll work in a small, autonomous product squad alongside Android Engineers, Backend Engineers, User Researchers, Product Designers, Product Managers, QA Testers, Data Scientists and Business Analysts.\n\nYour mission will depend on the squad, but currently mobile engineers are working on the core personal banking experience, paid products, lending products, business banking and internal operations. We also have a small squad dedicated to enabling other mobile engineers to move faster.\n\nYou and your team will be responsible for an overall company goal, rather than building a specific feature - you'll have the opportunity to have impact on both what we build, and how we build it.\n\nEvery week we meet as a discipline to discuss tools, techniques, problems we're encountering across the company and work together to improve our codebase and processes.\n\nYou'll report to an engineering manager who will meet with you every 2 weeks 1:1, their mission is to help you develop and grow as an engineer.\nOur iOS app\n\nAt Monzo, you'll get to work with industry standard tools and technologies - and help us define what great looks like for iOS engineers.\n\nOur app is 100% Swift, built using a Model, View, View-Model architecture (MVVM). We use Coordinators to ensure we can re-use screens wherever possible, and avoid tightly coupling one screen to another. We make heavy use of protocols and extensions throughout our app.\n\nOur networking stack is built upon Alamofire, using a generic interface to easily de-serialise objects of a certain type, and we mirror our backend micro-service architecture by building individual services to house our API logic.\n\nWe persist objects using Realm when we need to.\n\nOur testing stack comprises of unit tests for business logic, stubbed API tests for pseudo-integration tests, snapshot tests for UI, and XCUITest for testing user input and sequencing.\n\nWe've published some talks and blog posts about how we work:\n\n\nWorking with backend services on iOS\n\nPushing Protocols to their Limits\n\nThe Release Mindset (how we release our apps)\n\n\n\nYou should apply if\n\nOur open roles are for Senior iOS Engineers at present.\n\n\nYou'll care about the impact your work has on our customers, and optimise for impact rather than the number of lines of code you output\n\nYou are excited about and have experience in programming in Swift\n\nYouโ€™ve shipped and iterated on at least one app in the App Store\n\nYou have a product mindset: you care about customer outcomes and you want to make data-informed decisions\n\nYou love turning excellent design into beautiful products\n\nYouโ€™re comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity\n\nYou have an understanding of the principles of computer science\n\n\n\nThe interview process\n\nOur interview process consists of a 45 min initial call video interview, a take-home code test followed by a 45 min video call with an engineer to discuss it, and 2 hours of final interviews conducted via video call as well. The final rounds consists:\n\n1h iOS technical\n\nYou'll meet 2 other iOS engineers. Together we'll go over some technical challenges we've faced as a company. We'll ask you to come up with designs to solve these problems, and we'll ask you questions about your experience using Swift in production.\n\n1h Behavioural\n\nYou'll meet 2 Monzonauts to chat about some of the non-technical parts of being a product engineer at Monzo. These include your experience in delivery, team work, coaching/mentoring and persuasion.\n\nAt each stage you'll have an opportunity to ask us questions about what life is like at Monzo. \n\nWe promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions. We might design a solution together on a whiteboard, the same way we often work together, but we wonโ€™t make you write code on one.\n\n\nOur average process takes around 3-4 weeks but we will always work around your availability. You will have the chance to speak to our recruitment team at various points during your process but if you do have any specific questions ahead of this please contact us on [email protected] \n\nOne of our Hiring Managers has written a detailed blog on our process, for extra details, hints and tips please see this blog post.\nWhat's in it for you\n\n๐Ÿ’ฐ ยฃ80,000 - ยฃ140,000 base salary per year โž• plus stock options & benefits, we also provide all of our engineers with the latest MacBook Pro (M1 Pro).\n\nโœˆ๏ธ We can help you relocate to the UK \n\nโœ… We can sponsor visas but please note we aren't able to support remote working outside of the UK at the moment\n\n๐Ÿ“ This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London)\n\nโฐ We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team\n\n๐Ÿ“š Learning budget of ยฃ1,000 a year for books, training courses and conferences\n\nโž• And much more, see our full list of benefits here\n\nIf you prefer to work part-time, we'll make this happen whenever we can - whether this is to help you meet other commitments or strike a great work-life balance.\nEqual Opportunity Statement\n\nWe are actively creating an equitable environment for every Monzonaut to thrive.\n\nDiversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we are making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Monzo.
