Canonical - Jobs is hiring a
Remote Software Engineer App Stores Backend

Summary\n\nThis is an exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux, and Web Services at scale. Come build a rewarding, meaningful career working with the best and brightest people in technology at Canonical, a growing international software company.\n\nCanonical's Store team develops and operates the backend services that power the Snap Store and Charmhub.io marketplaces. Our services are built primarily in Python, within a bit of Golang. If you have a passion for clean APIs, have a bias towards shipping and believe that tests are the key to higher velocity and reliability, you'll fit right in.\n\nWe have some exciting challenges ahead including continuing to scale our production architecture, expand the store backend to handle additional package types, and enhance our on-prem offering for IoT and Enterprise solutions.\nWhat youโ€™ll do\n\n\nCollaborate remotely with a globally distributed team.\n\nWrite clean web service APIs to support both CLI and web frontend clients, using Python (and optionally Golang).\n\nDesign and implement new features and enhancements from spec to production and ongoing operations at scale.\n\nReview code and technical designs produced by other engineers.\n\nDiscuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions.\n\nWork remotely with global travel 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events.\n\n\n\nWho you are\n\n\nYou have demonstrated professional proficiency developing public-facing APIs and web applications using Python.\n\nYou have a broad technology base but favor backend code and infrastructure.\n\nYou know your way around relational and non-relational databases and can effectively design data models that perform well, and tune queries to access them.\n\nYou are comfortable with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform.\n\nYou have demonstrated strong academic performance in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree.\n\nYou love technology and working with a diverse set of talented people.\n\nYou are curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable.\n\nYou value soft skills and are passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated.\n\n\n\nAbout Canonical\n\nCanonical is a growing, international software company that works with the open-source community to deliver Ubuntu -- the worldโ€™s #1 cloud operating system. Our mission is to realise the potential of free software in the lives of individuals and organisations. Our services are helping businesses worldwide to reduce costs, improve efficiency and enhance security with Ubuntu.  Canonical is a unique tech company - global, remote-first, open source, with 700 professionals across 50 countries - we want to be the worldโ€™s best, not biggest, global software company. With almost every team remote by default, Canonical sets the pace on the 21st-century digital workplace.\nWhat Canonical offers:\n\n\nWork from home\n\nLearning and development allowances\n\nCompetitive Salary\n\nAnnual compensation review\n\nRecognition rewards\n\nGenerous annual leave\n\nPaid maternity, paternity and sick leave\n\nPriority Pass for travel\n\nExposure to international business and technology\n\n\n\n\nWe are proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination. Diversity of experience, perspectives, and background create a better work environment and better products. Whatever your identity, we will give your application fair consideration.\n\n#LI-remote\n\n#stack \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Design, Python, Travel, Cloud, Engineer and Backend jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $110,000/year\n

Obol is hiring a
Remote Senior Frontend Engineer DApp Development

\nWho Are We?\n\n\nObol Labs is a remote-first research and software development team focused on Proof of Stake infrastructure for public blockchain networks. Specific topics of focus are Internet Bonds, Distributed Validator Technology, and Multi-Operator Validation. The core team includes 35 members spread across +14 countries.\n\n\nThe core team is building the Obol Network, a protocol to foster trust-minimized staking through multi-operator validation. This will enable low-trust access to Ethereum staking yield, which can be used as a core building block in various Web3 products.\n\n\nThe Network\n\n\nThe network can be best visualized as a work layer that sits directly on top of the base layer consensus. This work layer is designed to provide the base layer with more resiliency and decentralization as it scales. In this chapter of Ethereum, we will move on to the next great scaling challenge, which is stake centralization. Layers like Obol are critical to the long-term viability and resiliency of public networks, especially networks like Ethereum.\n\n\nObol as a layer is focused on scaling main chain staking by providing permissionless access to Distributed Validators. The network utilizes a middleware implementation of Distributed Validator Technology (DVT), to enable the operation of distributed validator clusters that can preserve validators' current client and remote signing configurations.\n\n\nSimilar to how roll-up technology laid the foundation for L2 scaling implementations, we believe DVT will do the same for scaling the consensus layer while preserving decentralization. Staking infrastructure is entering its protocol phase of evolution, which must include trust-minimized staking networks that can be plugged into at scale. We believe DVT will evolve into a widely used primitive and will ensure the security, resiliency, and decentralization of public networks.\n\n\nThe Obol Network develops and maintains three core public goods that will eventually work together through circular economics:\n\n\nThe DV Launchpad, a User Interface for bootstrapping and managing Distributed Validators\n\n\nCharon, a Golang based middleware client that enables validators to run in a fault-tolerant, distributed manner.\n\n\nObol Splits, a set of solidity contracts for the formation of Distributed Validators tailored to different use cases such as DeFi, Liquid Staking, and Fractionalized Deposits \n\n\n\n\nSustainable Public Goods\n\n\nObol is inspired by previous work on Ethereum public goods and experimenting with circular economics. We believe that to unlock innovation in staking use cases, a credibly neutral layer must exist for innovation to flow and evolve vertically. Without this layer, highly available uptime will continue to be a moat.\n\n\nThe Obol Network will become an open, community-governed, self-sustaining project over the coming months and years. Together we will incentivize, build, and maintain distributed validator technology that makes public networks a more secure and resilient foundation to build on top of.\n\n\nThe Role \n\n\nThe focus of this role is on developing and enhancing React-based web applications for interacting with the Ethereum blockchain to create Distributed Validators. This includes creating user-friendly interfaces, integrating with wallets, and ensuring the applications are absolutely secure and reliable.\n\n\nThe goal of this role is to enable the proliferation of Distributed Validators in the Ethereum Staking Ecosystem, by making them easy to create, view, understand, and interact with. This role requires working with agency and autonomy. It requires collaboration with cross-functional internal teams as well as dealing with external stakeholders. Obolโ€™s Distributed Validator Launchpad, Obolโ€™s static website, Obolโ€™s typescript packages, and other applications will be under this roleโ€™s remit. \n\n\n\nResponsibilities\n* Develop and implement new features for our web applications using React, showcasing your expertise in creating user-centric solutions.\n* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product owners, designers, and QA engineers, to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality products.\n* Contribute to Obolโ€™s coding standards, design patterns, and development methodologies.\n* Drive innovation by researching and adopting the latest trends and technologies in the React ecosystem, ensuring our applications remain secure, competitive, and cutting-edge.\n* Act as a technical mentor for junior developers, providing guidance and support to help them grow and excel in their roles.\n* Collaborate with external partners integrating Obol technology into their dapps using the Obol SDK.\n* Take responsibility for maintaining and enhancing our current products, including our component library (obol-ui) and DApp (dv-launchpad).\n* Improve the accessibility of our interfaces to all types of internet users.\n* Harden the security of our React software and its supply chain.  \n\n\n\nRequirements\n* Professional experience in React-based Ethereum Application Development (examples below).\n* What we use for React Development: Typescript, Next.js, React Hook Form, SWR, Zustand, @headlessui/react, stitches.dev, tailwindCSS and others. \n* What we use for Ethereum Development: Foundry, Hardhat, Ethers.js, web3-react, @obolnetwork/obol-sdk, @metamask/eth-sig-util, @0xsplits/splits-sdk(-react), @gnosis.pm/safe-core-sdk, @synthetixio/synpress, @chainsafe/(bls/discv5/ssz) and others. \n* Previous delivery of react websites that enable non-custodial, wallet-based interaction with mainnet Ethereum or a similar EVM network with more than $100k in value handled. \n* Knowledge of JS/TS security and testing best practices.\n* Knowledge of JS/TS CI/CD best practices.\n* Experience working with Agile Software Development methodologies.\n* Web3 professional experience.\n* Proven ability to maintain and contribute to Open Source repos \n* Timezone between UTC-2 to UTC+3 \n\n\n\nNice to have\n* Ethereum staking experience.\n* Node.js or other backend development experience.\n* Solidity development experience.\n* Familiarity with docker and/or running servers.\n* SQL/NoSQL experience.\n* Experience working in a distributed remote team.\n\n\n\nBenefits\n* Fully Remote Working and flexible hours.\n* Meet the team at our Annual Offsites.\n* Chance to attend crypto and staking conferences.\n* Working with the purpose of decentralising Ethereum.\n* Generous paid time off.\n* Budget for equipment.\n* Budget for training or education.\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you for your interest. From architecture and design all the way up to deployment and monitoring.\n\n\nLocation\nWhile we are remote-friendly, we remain an "office-centric" company. This is not a fully-remote /contractor role.\n\n\n\nYour Daily Adventures Will Include:\n* Building applications in a modern web stack. Our apps are built with 100% TypeScript using modern React. We fetch data with GraphQL through Apollo client. We developed our UI kits based on Material UI. We have a full CI/CD process - your code goes into production in 4 hours or less! To make sure itโ€™s safe and fun to roll at this speed, weโ€™ve developed tons of automation, from type generation, linting and integration tests to automatic deployment stages, stable e2e tests and real-time production monitoring. Our backend runs on Ruby on Rails while we transition to services written in Go, Node and Elixir. We have data stores built on Redis, MySQL, and S3\n* Work in a dedicated team committed to make Outreach ubiquitously extensible by anyone who can code\n* Design and develop public facing APIs, libraries and product extension points\n* Create solid tooling for third party developers to have fun and be successful with our unique platform\n* Identifying the critical details and prioritize incremental delivery\n* Designing and delivering great solutions\n* Communicating and helping your teammates\n* Responding to changing requirements efficiently and responsibly\n* Helping us build customer trust by keeping the quality bar high and delivering well tested code\n* Owning features all the way through\n\n\n\nOur Vision of You\n* Experience with building modern web applications\n* Undying desire to create and invent\n* Great communications skills\n* Experience building and consuming web based APIs\n* Familiar with continuous deployment environments\n* Go above and beyond to help your team\n* Embody our core values: we are hungry craftspeople, we have grit, we are honest, we take ownership, we have each otherโ€™s back no matter what, weโ€™re one with our customers, and we find strength in diversity and inclusion\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy Youโ€™ll Love It Here\n\n\nโ— Highly competitive salary\nโ— Amazing working space with a running track on its roof\nโ— Flexible time off, 5 weeks of vacation, and 5 annual sick days\nโ— 4% employer supplemental pension monthly contribution\nโ— Private medical care for employee and spouse with Program Health Plus \nโ— Life insurance at 2x annual salary\nโ— 5.000 CZK monthly allowance for meal vouchers, flexipasses and other personal expenses\nโ— 16 weeks of annual top up maternity leave pay or 8 weeks of fully paid paternity leave\nโ— Opportunity to be part of company success via the RSU program\nโ— Company-organized and personal paid volunteer days to support the community that supports us\nโ— Relocation package - support offered for foreign future employees and their families relocating to Prague\nโ— Diversity and inclusion programs that promote employee resource groups like OWN (Outreach Women's Network), AAPI, Rainbow (LGBTQIA+), Gender+, LatinX, Black Excellence, Disability Community, and Veterans\nโ— Employee referral bonuses to encourage the addition of great new people to the team\nโ— Fun company and team outings because we play just as hard as we work \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Design, GraphQL, Typescript, Node, Ruby, Senior, Engineer and Backend jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $110,000/year\n

If you have a passion for clean APIs, have a bias towards shipping and believe that tests are the key to higher velocity and reliability, you'll fit right in.\n\nWe have some exciting challenges ahead including continuing to scale our production architecture, expand the store backend to handle additional package types, and enhance our on-prem offering for IoT and Enterprise solutions.\nWhat youโ€™ll do\n\n\nCollaborate remotely with a globally distributed team.\n\nWrite clean web service APIs to support both CLI and web frontend clients, using Python (and optionally Golang).\n\nDesign and implement new features and enhancements from spec to production and ongoing operations at scale.\n\nReview code and technical designs produced by other engineers.\n\nDiscuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions.\n\nWork remotely with global travel 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events.\n\n\n\nWho you are\n\n\nYou love technology and working with a diverse set of talented people.\n\nYou are curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable.\n\nYou value soft skills and are passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated.\n\nYou have a broad technology base but favor backend code and infrastructure.\n\nYou have proficiency developing public-facing APIs and web applications, preferably using Python and/or Golang.\n\nYou know your way around relational and non-relational databases and can effectively design data models that perform well, and tune queries to access them.\n\nYou are comfortable with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform.\n\nYou have a Bachelorโ€™s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree.\n\n\n\nAbout Canonical\n\nCanonical is a growing, international software company that works with the open-source community to deliver Ubuntu -- the worldโ€™s #1 cloud operating system.
