Your Role

Your Responsibilities
Enhance our mission and expand our product's capabilities by developing new integrations with third-party services and APIs. Building new features and functionality for both the frontend and backend.
Optimize existing complex backend processing jobs when required.
Collaborate with the CTO in identifying parts of the system that need fixing and optimization.
Participate in building new app features and our new dashboard.
Assisting in scaling efforts by performing benchmarks and optimizations as needed, and proposing changes to architecture design.
Your Qualifications
You have experience building applications with Ruby and Rails, ideally in projects involving complex interactions with 3rd party APIs.
You possess a deep understanding of application integration, including studying and understanding integration tools' documentation, and transforming it into efficient code.
You have a good background in JavaScript and familiarity with Hotwire and other popular JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, etc.
Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including working with large databases, complex queries, and materialized views.
A formal Engineering or CS background is preferred, but not required. If not, the candidate should be able to explain how they have learned the fundamentals of CS.
Familiarity with design patterns, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and algorithms.
A strong sense of aesthetics and product design, with the ability to improve flows and UI designs independently.
Familiarity with common stack tools and technologies such as Github, CI, RSpec, AWS, CSS/Sass/TailwindCSS.
You are humble and have excellent asynchronous communication skills. You are open to giving and receiving constructive criticism.
You possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English and can explain complex issues clearly. Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese would be a plus.

About The Role
Our infrastructure as code library and platform team delivers an end-to-end, best-practices infrastructure on AWS in just days, all as a product. In this role, you’ll collaborate with other senior-level engineers to define the next generation of AWS and DevOps best practices, codify them for use by thousands of engineers, and design a next-level experience for implementing, operating and understanding them.
What You'll Work On
Build a better DevOps experience. We have a unique product that generates complete, multi-account AWS architectures for Terraform and Terragrunt in just a few hours using a collection of internal Golang tools. Help us take this to the next level by using that product to deliver prod architectures directly to customers, and then leveraging their feedback for improvements. Better yet, help us get to the point where the entire experience is completely automated or self-service.
Codify AWS and Terraform best practices. Customers look to Gruntwork to share the best way to launch on AWS. Discover AWS and Terraform best practices, and then codify them as repeatable patterns that Gruntwork customers can pull off the shelf.
Integrate with the Gruntwork platform. Integrate your product work with our company-wide platform, which consists of a REST API (Next.js/Typescript), a web-based single-page app (Next.js/React/Typescript, Tailwind), and a first-class CLI tool (Go).
Build out the Infrastructure as Code Library. Create and maintain reusable infrastructure modules for a variety of infrastructure (e.g., EKS, ECS, RDS, VPC, Lambda, EC2, S3, ElastiCache, etc.), using a variety of tools (e.g., Terraform, Go, Python, Bash, Docker, Packer, etc.) on AWS.
Contribute to open source. Contribute to our open source projects as needed, including Terragrunt, Terratest, cloud-nuke, bash-commons, and more.
Train and mentor. Play to your strengths and areas of expertise by not only writing code and working on the product but also by sharing knowledge and mentoring both other team members and our customers in those areas.
Support customers. Compatible Time Zones
You'll be working with a team in the US time zones, so you can be located in almost any country as long as your time zone is no further west than Los Angeles (GMT-8/GMT-7) and no further east than New York (GMT-5/GMT-4). Qwire is still a small team, so every engineer contributes to the code base.\n* Lead by example with the code you contribute, code reviews, and peer programming\n* Collaborate with product management to manage and execute the product roadmap. \n* Work with the CTO and the development team to analyze and design the application architecture and implement functional requirements\n* As part of the development team, contribute to improving our development and deployment processes\n* Identify any pain points in our logging, monitoring, and APM; design and implement improvements to overall observability and performance.\n* Be welcoming and approachable. Help others understand the work we do and how they can improve their craft.\n\n\n\nExperience that will be helpful\n* 5+ years of full-stack engineering experience with JavaScript in Node.js and React\n* A track record of developing web-based applications and a deep technical understanding of JavaScript technologies such as Node.js, React, and Redux.\n* Experience as a lead engineer for project of increasing complexity, ideally in a startup environment\n* Experience with docker-based container development and deployment\n* Experience with web design architecture and stage-appropriate scalability \n* Familiarity with application security best practices, OAUTH, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)\n* Some familiarity with database management, monitoring, debugging will be helpful\n* Experience with functional and class-based JavaScript code. Previous experience with another functional language (Scala, Clojure, Haskell, Elixir, etc.) is preferred, but not required.\n\n\nWe don't require you to submit a resume, but please do submit one if you think it will help us understand your background. We place more emphasis on you telling us a bit about yourself, why you're a good fit for this project, and your relevant experience. A couple of paragraphs in the "About You" section will do. That should give us enough context to review your GitHub profile, open-source contributions, and/or other code you've written, which we've found is the best way identify potential team members.
