\nAbout Pagoda\n\nPagoda is shepherding a future where NEAR becomes the blockchain operating system. We believe that re-inventing how software is made and distributed is our greatest opportunity to open economic access to those who are not fully integrated into the global economy. Our products empower people to find opportunity, invent new experiences, and collaborate. Let's build an Open Web world. A world where people control their assets, data, and power of governance.\n\nAbout The Role\n\nThe Protocol Node team is looking for an experienced software engineer to focus on the infrastructure (local and decentralized) for running NEARโ€™s blockchain: make the client easy to run, improve its stability and performance, design and implement scalable blockchain infrastructures (e.g. RPC), design and implement support for these infrastructures. The work done by the Node team expands over automation, client code and release engineering, since all these components impact the experience and efficiency of running the NEAR client.\n\nYou will be working with complex concurrent systems, low-level code, complicated state machines, novel algorithms and infrastructure automation. You will be expected to own various components or features and drive their implementation from beginning to end, including the design, the implementation, the maintenance, and the documentation. You will be surrounded by highly productive and meticulous engineers who will be holding you to the same standards.\n\nWhat You'll Be Doing\n\n\n* Effectively communicate and collaborate with a globally distributed team\n\n* Design, implement and support infrastructures for running NEAR clients\n\n* Own major client features \n\n* Lead the design and implementation of Rust components end to end while working with other team engineers\n\n* Contribute to the teamโ€™s technical roadmap\n\n* Facilitate cross-functional work within the organization\n\n* Facilitate discussions and debates, consolidating different perspectives to drive decisions to execution\n\n* Anticipate risks and uncertainties and plan mitigations for them.\n\n* Directly impact the team by reducing complexity of architectures, implementations, and processes.\n\n* Set the right tempo for you and the team to deliver large initiatives on time.\n\n* End-to-end ownership of your work (design, implementation, documentation, maintenance)\n\n* Performance tuning and optimizations\n\n\n\n\nWhat We're Looking For\n\n\n* Ability to quickly learn and grasp complex engineering concepts; we expect you to obtain a very good understanding of the blockchain protocol\n\n* An effective communicator and ability to remain calm under pressure and when juggling multiple priorities\n\n* Familiarity building infrastructure that supports operating a production service\n\n* Being comfortable with diving in multiple parts of a technology stack and quickly navigate through it\n\n* Familiarity with algorithms and data structures\n\n* Fluent in coding\n\n* Ability to go from design to implementation fast\n\n* Your work is done carefully with a great attention to detail\n\n* Experience with Rust or alternatively but less preferred C++ or Go\n\n* Experience with concurrency or parallelism\n\n* Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Computer Science or related field is a must\n\n\n\n\nWe'd Love If You Have\n\n\n* Familiarity with internals of other blockchains\n\n* Knowledge of cryptography\n\n* Knowledge of compilers or virtual machines\n\n* Knowledge of networks or operating systems\n\n* Experience debugging complex concurrent systems\n\n\n\n\nHereโ€™s What Our Interview Process Looks Like\n\n\n* Recruiter Call\n\n* Hiring Manager Call\n\n* 1st Round\n\n\n\n* Algorithms & Coding Interview\n\n\n\n\n\n* Final Round\n\n\n* Large System Design Interview\n\n* Navigating Ambiguity Interview\n\n* DevOps/Troubleshooting Interview\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBenefits & Perks\n\n\n* Encouraged 20 days of flexible PTO per year, plus your local holidays\n\n* Wellness weeks โ€“ 2 weeks of paid company-wide closures \n\n* 100% Paid medical, dental and vision, AD&D and life insurance for US employees, including 85% coverage for dependents, and HSA + FSA options; For non-US employees, 100% Paid private medical coverage available at the highest tiered plan\n\n* Access to licensed therapists and mental health resources through Spill, 100% confidential and paid by Pagoda; plus $75 monthly reimbursement for wellness\n\n* Generous parental leave options; All employees have access to $10,000 in fertility assistance through Carrot\n\n* For US employees, 401(k) retirement plan available (no match)\n\n* Annual company retreats and team offsites (2023 was in Spain; 2022 in Portugal)\n\n* $2,000 Continued Education Reimbursement\n\n* $2,000 Home Office Reimbursement \n\n* Co-working Space Reimbursement\n\n\n\nOur Values at Pagoda\n\nOur values express our company culture. A world where people control their assets, data, and power of governance.\n\nAbout The Role\n\nThe Protocol Engineering team at Pagoda is responsible for the infrastructure of the Layer 1 Blockchain, NEAR Protocol. We focus on building a scalable, performant, and reliable infrastructure to actualize visions of NEAR Protocol, including the Blockchain Operating System (BOS).\n\nThe core component of NEAR is a WebAssembly virtual machine that runs in a completely trustless and fully deterministic mode, as it executes contracts implemented in WebAssembly-friendly languages (e.g. Rust and Javascript) using a fast compiler. NEAR contributes a lot of effort into performance and safety optimizations of WebAssembly VMs/compilers which helps not only the NEAR protocol but the entire WebAssembly ecosystem.\n\nWe are looking for an Engineer with experience in low-level programming who is intrigued by a variety of open problems inherent to running compilers in completely trustless but high-performance settings, and who likes contributing to and collaborating with open-source communities.\n\nWhat You'll Be Doing\n\nIn this role, you will be solving cutting-edge compiler and VM problems related to safe, deterministic, and high-performance compilation and execution. You will interface with many open-source projects where you might be asked to represent the NEAR organization. In the future, your work might also extend beyond WebAssembly VMs into other types of VMs that NEAR chooses to support. Youโ€™ll work on a collaborative and globally distributed team of world class experienced engineers, providing an opportunity to learn and grow your technical skill set.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\n\n\n* Knowledge and experience using Rust, C, or C++ in a production environment.
