This contractor role is only open to candidates located in European time zones.
The front-end engineer plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration between product design and engineering teams at Bonfire. This role combines the expertise of a front-end engineer with a solid understanding of UX and design principles.
Their primary focus revolves around developing and maintaining UI components using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript. Their ultimate aim is to bridge the gap between the design system crafted in digital design tools like Figma and the actual UI components utilized by both frontend and backend engineers. Collaborating closely with engineers, designers, and product managers, they contribute to defining and delivering new features, translating concepts into interactive prototypes, and refining interactions, animations, and finer details to craft a delightful user experience. Additionally, they assist in executing experiments using AB testing tools.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Build out UI components for new features & improvements utilizing semantic and accessible HTML, CSS & Javascript
Maintain & scale the design system components & style guide in Angular/HTML/CSS
Promote the value & adoption of the design system throughout the organization
Collaborate with product designers to ensure a proper design system implementation in code
Develop & launch experiments written in frontend technologies using tools for AB testing
Participate in daily standups, planing, refinement and retrospective meetings
Participate in engineering & design meetings
Perform code tests & collaborate with QA during testing and debugging of new features & improvements
Liaise with other members of the engineering team to seek improvements to Bonfireโs codebase
Ensure that Bonfireโs front end UI components match accessibility best practices as defined in WCAG
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Proficient in written & spoken English
Proficient in HTML, CSS, and Javascript
Responsive web design โ implement websites to adapt to a userโs device
Experience with CSS pre-processing tools
Knowledge of AngularJs and Angular 2+
Understands UX design patterns and principles
Familiarity with product development
Familiar with semantic markup and W3C accessibility guidelines
Has empathy for the Bonfire customers
QUALIFICATIONS
4+ years experience in front end development (required)
1+ years working within an agile software development framework (required)
Experience implementing a design system for a digital product built using Javascript frameworks such as Angular, React, Vue, etc. (required)
Experience in UI, UX, or Product Design
Prototype interactive flows based on mockups in digital design software like Figma

ABOUT THE JOB
The Engineering Team builds software that facilitates just about every aspect of buying and selling custom apparel online with our no-inventory campaign-based model. Our UX-heavy modules include our self service merchandise design tool and campaign/store setup flows which dovetail into our highly trafficked campaign pages & checkout flows. We also build for the supply chain & logistics side of our business with portals and services that serve admin, pre-production, design and fulfillment needs.
As an Engineering Manager youll report directly to the Director of Engineering and manage our team of senior developers while ensuring that every feature that we ship is made with quality and delivered on time. ABOUT THE JOB Our Engineering team is searching for their future Senior Java Developer who is a critical thinker, fast learner, and SQL natural who enjoys being a problem solver.
The Senior Java Developer will be responsible for implementing new features, fixing bugs, and improving and refactoring code. Most of what you will do is web-related, so many tasks will ask you to implement REST endpoints to help achieve business objectives and connect the dots on the web. However, much of the teams tasks are also not strictly web-related and may challenge you in other ways (e.g. data analytics, network communication, database optimization, etc.). You will have a lot of independence and agency while working, but will communicate with other colleagues daily and often work with them directly to solve coding issues.
This role requires the ability to work on a feature from start to finish, communicate about it, and ask the right questions along the way. Being comfortable with Java and confidently writing code to be deployed to production servers are key functions of this role as well. In addition, the ideal candidate will need to be able to tinker with Javascript code and wont be afraid to SSH into a server and change configuration files.
This role lies within our Engineering department and reports to the Engineering Manager.
