Growing up, we believed in the mantra: 'Just go to school, get a certificate, and you’ll get a government job.' That belief shaped my early years as I focused solely on studying school books, neglecting the importance of learning a skill or diversifying.
In 2016, I graduated with a B.A in History from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, only to face the reality that the promised jobs were either scarce or non-existent, especially as I didn't read a professional course like, well, you know them better... With no skills in trade, craft, or 'hustling,' I found myself almost lost. The only other thing I knew how to do—thanks to years of farming with my grandma—was agriculture.
In 2020, I decided to take farming seriously, and it became a source of hope for me. I discovered my love for planting trees, rearing animals and I also connected with like-minded people in the agricultural space. Still, I knew I had to do more to secure my future and bring my dream of retiring on my farm to life.
Fast forward to October 2023, I began intentionally upskilling myself. From earning a Digital Marketing certificate to studying Cloud Computing and DevOps Engineering at New Vision Institute of Technology, Otukpo, and securing a scholarship for a Diploma in Cyber Security at Baze University, Abuja, my learning journey has been intense and rewarding. Along the way, I’ve completed courses like Technical Support Fundamentals, AWS Cloud Technical Essentials, AWS Cloud Practitioner, Forward with McKinsey, and an ALX Africa Virtual Assistant program.
It’s been a lot of studies and nights of little sleep but I’m making up for lost time. I’m thankful for friends who encourage me and for the opportunities to grow. I equally thank my family for coping in my absence especially my grandparents and my dad who has been battling stroke for the 4th year now. May God give him a perfect healing.
Today, I’m proud to celebrate my graduation from New Vision Institute of Technology as a Cloud and DevOps Engineer. This achievement is a reminder of how far I’ve come and the brighter future I’m building for myself and those around me.
The journey isn’t over. I’m still learning, growing, and working toward my dreams. To everyone out there figuring it out like me, keep pushing—you’ve got this!
