My name is Michael, I am a data analyst from Fairfax, Virginia and I am currently seeking my next data analytics role.

In my career I’ve worked as both a data engineer and as a data analyst. In those roles I’ve had a wide range of responsibilities but where I excel the most is in taking disparate data sources and turning them into high quality datasets for other analysts to use.

I have experience building data models, pipelines, quality checks, and pretty much anything else data related that you can think of. I also have also done data governance activities including building and maintaining extensive metadata documentation and data definitions for end users.

Ideally, my next data analyst role is one where I can continue to leverage some of the data engineer skills I’ve developed these past few years while also providing a chance for me to utilize the analysis and visualization skills I worked so hard to learn.

In terms of formal education, I received my degree in International Business from James Madison University. After graduating, I spent some time in Japan as an English teacher and backpacking around SE Asia. Shortly after the pandemic started, I decided I wanted to make a shift into analytics, so I did a 9-month analytics certification program with an organization called Thinkful. While most of my professional work experience has been in the data wrangling & data engineering world, I am trained in many of the modern analytic techniques and business intelligence tools.
