My Name is John Estes, and I am a former General Manager for the Cheesecake Factory of Cherry Hill New Jersey. I worked for this extraordinary company for 19 years. I was hired as an entry-level host and worked my way up to the position of General Manager. As a GM I oversaw a $16 Million dollar restaurant with 11 managers and ~215 staff members that worked on my team. I had many tasks that I carried out, from hiring the best possible candidates and onboarding of all new staff using HRIS, to ensuring food safety and quality, to ensuring each guest and staff member was taken care of. My day consisted of checking emails and performing vital computer functions such as financial and time keeping audit. I also ensured that my management team and staff were always ready to take care of our guest. This involved validating and posting all schedules along with finding solutions to missing staff members. Food safety was always the most important aspect of my job, I was responsible for ensuring proper storage, rotation, and handling of food. After ensuring the restaurant was properly staffed and presentable, I was able to spend most of my day ensuring each staff member had the tools to do their job and that our guests got exactly what they ordered in a timely manner. With my team of 225 I was able to run a very successful business that was consistently ranked as the # 1 in the company in controllable profit per guest, quarter after quarter. During COVID, I was also able to finish my Bachelor’s degree and take coding bootcamp focused on JavaScript.
