Growing up, my mother's mantra was always, "Learn to say no." Reflecting on her words now, I realize they shaped my need to stay active and keep learning.
I realized early on that thereโs always room for personal growth. I passed this wisdom on to my own children, urging them to embrace feedback and criticism regardless of age.
This commitment to personal development and self discovery has been instrumental in my professional journey.
My job experiences fall into 2 categories: Project Management and Education. Post college, I began working in the construction management field, honing my expertise in store planning and Project management skills. I became a whiz on AutoCAD developing plans for remodels, prototypes and new builds.
As a Project manager in the retail and restaurant industry, I learned and mastered the traditional tasks of scheduling, take offs, communication and budgeting. I also learned that I had a knack for creating unity within a diverse group of people, ensuring every individual felt valued and integral to our collective goal. This became a foundation for my managerial approach.
Following my daughterโs birth, and inspired to share my industry knowledge, I discovered I was extremely patient and had a talent for teaching - evidenced when I tutored my husband in AutoCAD during his college years. My time in the education field, spanning various age groups, served as another chance to learn about myself.
Several guiding principles have emerged through my professional and personal journey:
1. Mutual Respect and Teamwork: Itโs important to me to cultivate a level of mutual respect. By demonstrating genuine care of others, Iโve created teams that are committed to our shared objectives. This has consistently produced on-time, on-budget project completions. It has also been important to establish meaningful connections with my students.
2. Thriving in Changing Environments: I thrive in fast-paced settings and excel at juggling multiple responsibilities. Organizing is a source of fulfillment for me and enables me to deal with complexity.
3. A Lifelong Pursuit of Knowledge: Stagnation is not an option for me. From mastering different drawing and scheduling programs to using different educational platforms, I am committed to self-improvement.
In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."
