My name is Felipe Santos, I am a Senior Investment analyst, with a career combined in Sell side and Buy side while working at J.P. Morgan, Raymond James and Atlas One.
In a nutshell, over my career I had the opportunity to analyze, forecast, model, evaluate several companies and sectors simultaneously across Latin America, with focus in: E&P, Infrastructure/Pipelines, O&G Integrated, Chemicals, Downstream, Fuel Logistics, and Utilities besides other sectors such as Rentals & Transportation, General Manufacturing, and Services. From a top-down perspective on oil and gas, as global commodities, I explored the legal and economic framework of each producing country in Latin America, while also looking at all the developments, new technologies taking place around the world. In this sense I also analyzed and collaborated with J.P. Morgan commodities team producing data, forecasts and reports that supported short-long term production/consumption forecasts with a deep comprehension of macro and micro trends impacting energy markets. This top-down perspective allowed me to examine in detail each producing company, from their operations to their financials. On the utilities side, as a more macroeconomic driven sector, I could explore the energy supply / demand, looking into details of hydro-thermal-wind generators passing through commercialization to distribution companies. Similarly, to oil and gas, the rise of new technologies that allowed new models of energy generation were also under scope. This included wind, solar energy farms and other sources of energy. On infrastructure I had the chance to analyze in detail not only several roads and railroads concessions but also auto leasing and service companiesโ€™ models.
As sell side analyst I had chance to lead several equities offers such as:
i) the IPOs of Vibra (R$5bn), GeoPark ($100mn), HRT ($1,8bn); and
ii) the follow-onโ€™s of Mexichem ($0,7bn), IEnova ($0,8bn), Petrobras ($70bn).
During this time, I was ranked by Institutional Investor Magazine (2013/2017) and awarded with Thomson Reuters Prize, #2 Latin America Top Stock Energy Picker Forecaster (2016). I was lead author of specialty reports that had reached more than 6 thousand investors (Mexico Energy 101) and analyzed in detail several companies, projects, oil fields, throughout Latin America.
As buy side, as participating member of investing committee, I analyzed several deals as the IPOs of Vamos (R$1,0bn), Raizen ($1,3bn), JSL (R$0,7bn), Compass (R$4,5bn) โ€“ did not issued shares; and the follow-onโ€™s of Localiza (R$1,8bn), Vamos (R$0,7bn), Movida (R$0,5bn), Equatorial (R$2,8bn), Rumo (R$6,4bn), Eletrobras (R$33bn) among others.
In Atlas fund, besides companiesโ€™ analysis, I also had the chance to implement a talent evaluation system, an intranet portal, and a sales Pipedrive system to support the salesโ€™ team approach towards Atlas investors.
I am fluent in Portuguese and English and used to write extensive reports on the sectors and companies that I covered while at J.P. Morgan and Raymond James. These experiences allowed me to expand my networking skills and allowed me to connect with several infrastructure/energy/utilitiesโ€™ stakeholders, not only in Latin America, but also in Europe and the U.S. I am studying Spanish and have upper intermediate command in this idiom.
I am comfortable working collaboratively within several different teams and already managed teams in different locations. Throughout my career I also had the opportunity to present cases and companies in several roadshows throughout Europe, US and Asia and can convey complex information effectively.
I have always invested in learning and studying. I have a MSc in Macroeconomics and Finance; Brazilian portfolioโ€™s management and equity sell side certifications. Other courses and training include geology for non-geologists, finance, SharePoint etc.
