I am a Software Engineer with over 3 years of professional experience designing, building, and maintaining applications. I have primarily coded in Java, though have also utilized TypeScript, JavaScript, and some Python for professional work. I would love to branch out more into TypeScript/JavaScript and Python in particular, though I am always happy to learn new programming languages as I find them fascinating.
I am curious and a fast learner, so even if I have not worked with a technology before I will eagerly learn it and provide value with a new tool in my toolbox. Throughout my time working at Amazon, I was asked to dive into codebases and technologies that I was unfamiliar with and quickly acquire the information and context needed to perform my task. This was especially true during the months I spent as the lone resource on a design for a system that integrated across several services and tech stacks in the Amazon advertising & reporting stacks. Several times on the project, I was recognized for my ability to handle ambiguity and put forth well researched and written technical documents that aided in driving discussions and alignment with partner teams. I was awarded an Amazon Accolade by a key partner organization on the project for exemplary design document quality. This was largely driven by solid technical understanding as well as my writing and communication skills, though my willingness to learn also played a big role.
I am also not afraid to take initiative, such as the time working at Costco Travel where I suggested an enhancement to an entry point into the payment processing system that would decouple that entry point from the UI/Application layer by making the payment request agnostic to which application sent the request. Previously, the two company applications had different representations for payment requests, and different logics for performing similar payment flows. After bringing my design to senior engineers and business stakeholders and gaining their alignment, I implemented and tested the solution, which translated the applications' different representations into one payment request structure that the rest of the payment processing system could use. This solution reduced complexity in our payment system and removed superfluous data and logic from the entry points to the system, increasing system readability and maintainability in the long-run.
Some of my personal hobbies include soccer, games (board, video, card, etc.), and baking. I'm also a passionate traveler and citizen of the world. I greatly enjoy experiencing varied cultures and ways of life. I am conversationally fluent in 3 languages: English, Spanish, and Italian. I also have some proficiency in Dutch, which I am working on adding as my 4th language of fluency.
