Daughter of the Akan and Asante by birth, I am an Ottawa-based, Toronto-raised emerging writer and mental health advocate specializing in shame research. I have a Doctorate in Feminist and Gender Studies, an M.Ed in Sociology and Equity Studies in Education, and a B.A in Sociology and Global Studies. My thesis was titled, "Octavia Butler's Parables and Black African American Hyper-Empathic Neurodivergent Feminists: On Shame and Solidarity." The emphasis was to understand how shame obstructs interpersonal relationships within the feminist movement.
I write themes related to shame and other difficult emotions, anti-racism, equity, mental wellness and mental illness. My writing has been featured in Fodors, The Feminist Wire, Ottawa Citizen, Canadian Women Studies, and Climate Chaos: Ecofeminism and the Land Question. My next project is titled, "Nana Essie." It is a coming of age story about a 9-year old Ghanaian Canadian newcomer who mistakes symptoms of brain injury for a curse.
