There was a time a kid who loved sports, he could play outside all day without even noticing that he needed to eat. For a long time, this kid thought that he would follow his fatherโ€™s path and study PE so that he could become a teacher or a professional athlete coach in Barcelona.
Little did he know, that this would not be the case. Just before having to apply for the first year of senior high-school he discovered photography and design thanks to his partner at the time. He got immediately hooked and decided that he would study and pursue art, but more specifically design. He loved the idea of how colors, shapes, typography, whitespace, etc can affect the perception of people. And so he started studying art and design in high-school during the day, and working/helping his father on their business (not doing an amazing job at that thoughโ€ฆ).

Towards the end of the second year, because of how curious this kid was, one night after work and after doing his homework, this little human found coding, programming, more specifically, web development. And to his surprise, he saw an opportunity to pair art/design with code, with what he later realized was called the frontend. Thanks to this, he started getting more and more into programming, learning HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc. He soon started dabbling and helping friends with collage homework related to web development; which is how he got his first job and how he met his first boss of a small design studio in Barcelona. So there he was, already working for some little money way before starting college; which he would do the next year, in BAU design school in Barcelona.

During the first year, he realized what an experience and advantage he had over his peers thanks to his job, but also how badly thought the system was for people to combine college with work. Nonetheless, that didnโ€™t stop him from working his ass off, getting home at 10PM, having dinner, doing homework and back at it again the next day. After months of this, he got another opportunity to work at another small design studio in Barcelona, with an amazing individual that went freelance after a few years working for renowned agencies. This gave him the opportunity to hone his coding skills towards a more creative environment and challenges while developing a good eye for design, details, etc. And with that, two years went by flying, by the third year of college, our individual was quite burned with how the school system worked, how badly he was sleeping and thus how little he was enjoying what he loved to do which was work in design and web development. And soโ€ฆ he decided that because he was already working and gaining experience; he would delay/leave college for now so that he could focus more on said experience.

Little did he know, that he would have to adapt to a pretty big change once more. The designer that he was working with, decided that was time to switch focus to his passion and hobby; sign painting and leave the computer behind. But that didnโ€™t scare our individual, on the contrary, he found purpose and enjoyment in the challenge and fear. Which is why he went completely freelance, and started getting jobs and projects for different people, in different sectors and different countries.
He started working from a co-working, but soon realized the power of remote working, and working from home (even though it took discipline to get a schedule and have a fixed set of hours during the day); so he made the switch and never look back again.

Itโ€™s been quite a few years, where our individual has worked on health insurance, for design studios, solo projects, companies from the States, a climate change company based in Zurich, etc. And while all the experience is good, he longs for a project which mission aligns and scratches an itch within his person; while also working with passionate, talented individuals from whom he can learn more and keep growing as a person.
