Hello,

My name is Ben Walsh. I am a 31-year-old male from Hamilton, Ontario, currently working as a Manager for the Strategic Planning and Initiatives team at major bank in Toronto. I graduated from McMaster’s Degroote School of Business in April of 2019 and started work in the Fall of 2018. I MAY not have the industry experience folks are looking for, but I have two things that I believe not all folks do.

The first, extensive experience of being on a team. From childhood up until my mid-20s, the joy in my life was found in hockey. As I got older, the sport became more competitive and the stakes grew higher. I played for many good teams, many bad teams, but there was always one constant that success was contingent on - cohesiveness. This was not something inherited or obtained by a stroke of luck, but rather something forged by the willingness of each member to put the team ahead of themselves. To make a good team, rather, a good movie or show, I would imagine you need to measure the value of each production member's cohesiveness. Spending the majority of my life as part of these 'high-stake' and competitive teams, I have learned how to be cohesive - that is, the ability to work with anyone and everyone at an optimal performance level, under a high level of stress. A bunch of different people, different personalities, coming together to accomplish the same goal. That I can do.

The second (and third) qualities I possess are also born from the same experience - dedication and discipline, specifically towards a single craft. Physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual pain - I experienced all of them, intensely and consistently. I chose to give up a lot of things that a young man normally wouldn't. I don't believe this made me a better person but I know that it has allowed me to do most things I put my mind to. As mentioned, I may not have the working experience required in the industry, but I do know that I have the discipline and willingness to take my skill to a level that will help make any project better. If you only see one thing from me, it will be my work ethic and desire to be better.
