\nForage is looking for an Engineering Manager (EM) to join our group of 15+ engineers, most of which are based in Australia. This EM position will be our first hire in the Philippines to lead our Philippine development team which we are hoping to build within 6-8 monthsโ time!\n\nJoin us to have a lasting impact on the millions of people starting their careers, by helping to level the recruitment playing field!\n\nThis position suits technical leads or existing engineering managers who are interested in people management and want to grow their leadership skills.\nCore responsibilities\n\n\n* Lead a team of 4-5 Philippine engineers to scope, estimate, build, and deploy product features.\n\n* Support the professional development, growth, and productivity of your team members.\n\n* Contribute to building a healthy culture of inclusion, collaboration, and psychological safety across the Engineering group.\n\n* Collaborate with other engineering leaders to build our engineering roadmap and establish good engineering practices, processes, and tools.\n\n* Manage dependencies and requests from outside your team\n\n* Share your team's updates and achievements across the company.\n\n* Manage your own working hours to optimize for US West Coast / AU cross-over, and build strong connections with team members based there.\n\n* Own your decisions and take accountability for your team.\n\n\n\nWhat would a normal week look like?\n\n\n* Define and communicate a clear direction for the team.\n\n* Collaborate with the Product Manager to build a prioritized backlog for day-to-day work\n\n* Set up and run team meetings including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, engineering meet-ups, and show and tell.\n\n* Hold regular check-ins with your reports to ensure they are well supported.\n\n* Contribute to the codebase on non-critical tasks, and review pull requests for the team.\n\n* Remove blockers for the team and coach them through challenges.\n\n* Participate in roadmap planning with other engineering leaders.\n\n\n\nAbout you\n\nYou are a self-starter who likes to work both autonomously and is confident in leading a small team. You are a self-sufficient engineer and you are comfortable with being one of the first hires in a new region, to help us build and launch a new Forage product!\n\nYou have a solid understanding of technology and are proficient in working in JavaScript and Node. You care about code quality and practice automated testing and, as part of our team, you are happy that sometimes your coding takes a back seat in your day job, although you still enjoy spending some of your time on the tools being developed for the team.\n\nYou have solid communication skills and are proficient in English. You communicate technical concepts clearly and efficiently while actively participating in team conversations. You also encourage other voices and opinions since you can guide the team to make sound technical decisions.\n\nYou have solid leadership experience. You have solid foundations and experience leading an engineering team. You have either been a technical lead or an EM before and want to keep growing your leadership skills.\n\nYou care deeply about people and are interested in building teams with a high level of trust and collaboration. You understand that how teams work together has the greatest impact on their overall success, and enjoy helping them work better together.\n\nYou are comfortable working in a constantly changing environment and like continuous learning on the job.\nWorking hours\n\nThis role will be working with a team split across Australia and the US West Coast, and may involve starting your working day early to maximize cross-over time and hold 1-1s with team members based in the US.\n\nYou can choose to either finish early or take longer breaks during the day, to balance out early starts.
